Thread: Petition To Remove Uber Loot Weapons. *IMPORTANT*
EdOWar.. I am a Master Weaponsmith and I know exactly what's involved in becomming one.
" But with uber-loot drops we won't be needed at all, "
This is an absurd overstatement of the current situation. There are what.. 3 uber weapons known after a week. Get real.
Here, allow me to make a construction suggestion based on the real situation and not BS hyperbole:
Ask the devs to limit all uber loot drops to 300-500 durability, limiting their usefullness. That would be a fair comprimise that would allow people other than crafters to be happy.
Stop looking at this 100% from what it means to you the weaponsmith and consider the fact that this is exactly what a very, very large number of the players want. They are sick of getting nothing for loot and they deserve these uber weapons for their efforts.
why is it that all you weaponsmiths seem to think 4 people running around with amazing weapons on 4 separate servers is really going to hurt your business?
So far I have seen 3 or 4 examples of these Items, and although there are probably a couple more, I doubt they number more then 10.
The people who find these weapons will be gods of PvP for a couple of weeks or so, and then their item will break and it will all be over.
Who cares if you loose a single customer for a week or two? the Europeans are coming, I'm sure they'll more then fill in that possible single player gap your missing...
The devs stated they wouldnt put uber loot into SWG before it came out. They promised it wouldnt be like EQ. They said the best stuff will be made by crafters. Now they stabbed us in the back and changed it. THEY LIED ! Flat out . Im sick of it and i dont want to play EQ. I dont want to camp for freakin items to get the best stuff. SO please get rid of uber loot ... NOW !

Please change the drops to components for crafters (like the Krayt tissues), or highly limit the lifespan of these weapons, orthe fun part of the game for crafters will be lost as explained above. The weaponsmith experience is based around laoriously hunting those resources, grinding to master, and when you've got there just once in a while making a weapon to be truly proud of; with this loot the weaponsmith profession is dead. And that's all there is to it.
And now, because you make guns, you want to take away the possibility that I might loot a weapon with amazing statistics? Why? You wouldn't lose my business. And you wouldn't be losing the business of 99% of the people in this game, nor the 1% of people who DO find one of these. Do you really think that if I looted that super-tusken rifle, that I would USE it, especially with any regularity?
The first thing I would do is probably stare at my screen, jaw agape, and be amazed at what I had found (something sorely missing from the loot in this game). Then, I would quietly place it in my backpack, run home, and mount it on the wall.
I'd only use it against a dark jedi master, krayt dragon, or PC jedi. And even then, I'd think twice because of the forthcoming condition hit on death.
I think most people would react similarly. And those who didn't, wouldn't have it long as the condition spiraled down to zero from use and deaths. Just like every other weapon.
What they DO need to do, instead of removing these exceedingly rare loot drops, is to give the weaponsmiths the ability to have a super-schematic much like the RIS armor for armorsmiths, or rare schematics that allow them to do a limited run (10 perhaps) of an "exceptional" quality-type weapon. This would stop the griping, give everyone the chance to produce/own a nicer weapon, and still keep the loot drops good as well. I've never looted ANYTHING particularly good (krayt pearl is about the best I've pulled). Most of us haven't. Some of us have been lucky. Don't take the chance away from us in favor of greed.
alright you guys make guns, i use them.
last week i spent 170k on weapons,probably 250k a month.
i also buy tons of powerups, my guns never go without them.
i burn through weapons like butter at my speed cap for carbine and pistol and soon llc.
in 4 months of non-stop playing i've looted plenty of weapons that are about as good as a novice weaponsmith can make with cruddy materials, i've never used any of them.
i got one cool carbine off a dark jedi master about a month ago. it wasn't even as powerful or fast as a bought dl17, but almost as good. it also had health poison dot 2763 uses.
after shooting uncounted mobs, if i get a cool weapon once in awhile it's not going to tank the economy, but serves as a reward for fighting stuff. getting no loot from things makes killing mobs kind of dull.
on the other hand mobs dropping stuff you can buy off me is a nice win-win situation. i've sold tissue, armor shards and found the best rancor teeth ever, +6 - +70 and had offers for 25k each after I'd already sold them.
but every once in awhile i'd like to get a legendary item or something. you guys work hard for your dough, but so do all the guys out there pulling your triggers.
and to that guy who said he'd break someone's legendaryweapon if someone wantedit fixed, well personally if someone puts my weapon back over 500 they get 5k credits, if it breaks 1k, if it gets over 800 usually 8k credits, because usually my weapons i want fixed are worth it, easily, and i appreciate a master weaponsmith fixing stuff. purposely screwing up a repair on a legendary item, that's like someone stripping you of all the special tissues, vibro motors, etc. you might have on you just because they're jealous.

to all those who are arguing for the legendary weapons, i just want to tell you my point of view.
when a new best weapon is brought to public attention, it doesnt take long to become a standard, everyone wants one everyone gets one, it will no longer be a trip to the weaponsmith, it will be a trip to that guy who farms the warrens and gets loads of these weapons back to sell to the public, if this doesnt get fixed very quickly, we wont be able to call ourselves 'master' weaponsmiths, we will just be able to call ourselves 'those weaponmaking peeps who make stuff till we get enough money to buy good weapons'
Armoursmiths make the best armour, droid engineer's make the only droids, architects make the only structures. Its really not balanced if a weaponsmith cannot make the best weapons, only stuff to skill up with tillpeople get the best. This would potentially loose us 90 % of customers, people would only buy our weapons if they had trouble getting the top ones, we would be second best, and second best is not good enough for me im afraid. I find the thought of my weapons being limited to mostly the new players who cannot afford the loot drops to be extreamly demeaning. That is exactly what will happen once these weapons become common enough, and beleive me they will, considering how popular these area's are that drop these weapons.
If i was to make a suggestion about 'uber loot drops' it would be in the form of components to make weapons with, i beleive krayt etc was the correct course for the high end weapons, like nighsister shards (and whatever else) for armour, the highest end stuff should all be linked to the crafter proffessions.
If there needs to be bigger and better weapons than krayt, then let it be new items that are used in place of krayt etc, that could make bigger and badder weapons
I have a decidely mixed opinion on this. I am probably 2-3 weeks from hitting master weaponsmith. I have sold less than 20 weapons since I hit novice. So there is a nagging feeling that I may be attaining my goal at the wrong time. I can definitely imagine customers asking for a weapon I cannot possibly craft. It would be terribly frustrating.
But there are a number of reasons why I won't sign the petition. I am constantly amazed at the amount of stuff people buy in this game. I mostly sell resources now and it blows me away how medics and doctors won't blink an eye at handing over 50k cr for a stack of resources. If the market is big enough that I can consistently sell large amounts of resources, why should I worry about an added uber weapon. Yes, the high level combat people are going to do their damndest to try to get these weapons. But I think one of the things most of us don't inderstand is how quickly these guys use up a gun. I might buy a pistol once a month. I just don't use it that much. From what I read, some of these folks go through their weapons in less than a week. If that is the case, we really don't have anything to worry about. If you loot an uber weapon, you won't be shooting kreetles with it. It will be used for PvP or Krayt hunting. Otherwise, they'll use Joe Schmo's weapon.
I have read a couple of posts here that spoke of not wanting to craft second rate weapons. Sorry, but we all craft second rate weapons from time to time. Maybe you missed a killer resource or just didn't use the right resource on occasion. It is bound to happen. Look at it another way. If there are uber weapon drops, maybe there will be uber crafting drops (oops, there already was one with krayt tissue). As long as there is that type of balance in the game, it will be fine. And perhaps their thinking is that we may not be able to make these type weapons now, but will in the future.
But what does bother me is the lack of communication. I have posted this type of observation before, but the devs treat us all like we are toddlers who don't need to know what is going on. A simple acknowledgment that these drops are planned would satisfy me. But I really haven't seen anything like that coming from above. The other thing that mystifies me is that I have read they didn't want to create a situation where players were camping a spawn. Yet I have read at least three places where I can see this happening (The hermit, Krayt graveyard and whereever the holocrons drop). This would be another. Actually, it might be more interesting watching the PvP battles to see who gets to camp. But basically, I'm not threatened by it.Let the combat types think they rule the game. It makes them happy that way.
You have my full support against 'Uber Loot' drops.
I will be urging members of my PA to also support this petition.

No Uber Loot.
SWG has a PLAYER-DRIVEN ECONOMY, not a Loot-driven economy. If the developers want to change that, they can go ahead and tell all of the crafters to pack up their bags, that their professions are now sub-par.
If we can't make weapons that are better than any loot drop, why would anybody choose to buy from us?
