Thread: Thunderheart, would these two simple fixes solve SOE's database problems? No flame, a sincere idea.

I get a flame? I said it was selfish, to make it so you can make yourself into an industry.Open your mind and think about the way the game would be if some of the stuff that you are so used to were never actually there instead of complaining cause something is being taken away from you. "I have sooooo much stuff i have to collect and store to be a smith." Ya how much have you played? You do realize that the game is only a year old and that other online games EQ, DAoC have taken years to become an established character. This game is still relatively new and you want to hold onto every bit of privilege that you get.

Stacking items will make it so that crafters can craft lots more stuff more easily yes? I do know how it works, you craft components that are needed to make other items and you craft them in factories. So what you put your stack of 10million resources into a factory and come back in a month and you got a crate of components that will last you the rest of your crafting career? So you can go af game for a month and come back and have endless amounts of weapons to sell?

Just preaching to the choir that is all you are doing, I come here to preach a little bit of reality and im flamed? **edit** you if your gunna say how much irl time do I spend, or how much board time do I spend, first why does it matter, and second do you see how many posts I have? It doesnt matter who I am, it only matters what I have to say. I told yall in my first post that I merely posted such an opposite view to try and wake some people up, but if your gunna come back at me with a flame im gunna come back at you with a bigger flame.

You are selfish and I hope you all get nerfed and quit the game. Thats right I hope the choir goes away so that I dont have to put up with your selfish ways again. And the reason i say your selfish is cause you say 'oh poor me, here is my fix *insert improvement* You didnt say how about we make it so items disappear off a vendor if they arnt refreshed within a month or everything a char has is deleted if they arnt loaded in 2 months. That would clear a lot of the idle characters crap that is clogging up our servers cause you chose to go play flurry without considering the people on the server you were on. As for how that would effect you, say you take a break from the game for a while and can't come refresh your crap, put the account on hold so that system knows that stuff is to be saved, or you get stranded out in the middle of no where and your account gets deleted, well sorry we all get **edit**ed sooner or later. I don't wanna live in a rubber bubble and I hope that you don't either.

As for the stars, take them,I really love how a guy can make a post like this, absolutely no revolutionality(?) to the post, I have thought about bigger crates, bigger resource stacks, I know a lot of crafters who have, but they get the stars for preaching to the choir, I bet thats what sony meant when they made that system didn't they. I have an idea, i think its a 5 star idea, Americans get some responsibility breed into them instead of thinking, me me me..."go take mushrooms folks and pry open your 3rd **edit**in eye?" -Bill Hicks

2 house plus one factory = 5 lots out of my 10!

You do know that you can store how ever many items you want on a vendor right? And not be putting them all over your house so you can have that precious decorating room that you need so badly, Thus only spending2 lots for your house. Just an idea.

I have to say, incredible.

As someone who's droids take from 8-35 or more subcomponents in each and every droid, it's an absolute nightmare.

Is it good for the database for me to have a row of houses that just store backpacks of crates?

Or, is it keeping me interested in the game for the long haul to make my wrist and fingers go numb transfering crate after crate from bank to factory to house to factory....make me work for it, but in it's current state it's rather absurd. Yes, it's better than when we had to empty crates before and put singles in factories as subcomponents, but for anyone that does volume this is a huge issue.

My factories now have maintainance paid up months in advance - I too accidentally lost a store of stuff due to maintainance awhile back. It was my fault, I didn't complain - but it just struck me that I was by some defintions "exploiting" factories by using them for storage when I wasn't trying to store an unreasonable amount of stuff; just enough to function.

People aren't asking to be huge packrats - just being able to manage large factory runs without having to set down a new house every time just so you can switch the items in and out.

I really hope this gets the attention it deserves.

Audio: i just simply feel bad for droid engineers it wouldn't matter if it took 10,000 things or 10 for you to make your droids you not gunna make any money. The problem with that is obviously that DE is messed up and is being changed.

Damn great idea,I agree completely. I've been a master ws for quite some time, thoughI don't run a large buisness, or even make any money at it. (I support my ws habit by being a master rifleman )I mainly make weapons for myself andguildmates, andI still need 3 houses to keep all my stuff in.

No it's too obvious, too simple, too good for everyone for SOE to make it

They like "twisted" changes.

As they complain about their database problems, they create new uselessitems such as candles and wax (i'm still rofl everytime i write/read this) that will eat up even more space yet without increasing the amount of items a house can hold. People will need even more houses factories or vendors.

Hedek, you skiped over my post if you are gunna say its to simple and to good for everyone for SOE to make a change like this. Its sickening how so many people are so ready to insult SOE and still play their game. That would be ok if SOE was actually listening but you also admit that they dont read your posts. So what your throwing insults around about something you know so little about to make yourself feel big? (i.e. They like "twisted" changes.)

lol of course you got a flame....why ? cause you dont know what you're talking about, simple.

Stacking wouldnt allow to craft more, or faster....stacking or not the factory limit would still be 1000 items, do you think we cant put enough resources to get 1000 components now, or 1000's components to get as many finished products as possible ? of course we can, but the change would allow us to take one 1kcrate from house, or factory output hopper or vendor, and put it in factory input hopper, instead of it being 20 or 40 crates in some cases.

would it give any advantage to anycrafter compared to others ? tell me how

In response to Suohhen :

Wow... cool down, in case you didn't notice, i was being ironic and sarcastic in that post. I believe that's a great idea Caddelite came up with. But there has been a lot of other great ideas suggested by players that SOE didn't take into account. I was rofl however when they thought wax and lightbulbs were *good* ideas and contemplated developing it and putting it on live.

Of course not all player ideas are doable or at least realistic. This one definitely is.

I must admit I didn't read all replies to the post when I posted mine, I have read yours now. First I think you take it too personal, with too much emotion, second some of your arguments are flawed. You can put a milion units of resources in a factory, it'll just take more room. The end idea is to have less items in the database. Currently,a resource stack of 1 unit of steel takes as much "storage capacity" as a stack of 100k. Now let's say a factory has a 1000 storage capacity in the current system. That means you can store up to 1000x100k = 100 milion units of steel in the current system. Now you could balance that out by reducing the storage capacity down to 100 instead of 1000. In the end you can place as much units of steel but using less room. So in the end there would be less items in the game database.

As the initial poster said, he's giving extremenumbersfor the same of the explanation, and I think his idea is great... not perfect, it will need tweaking, balancing, testing, etc and that's what the SWG live development team is paid for.

You suggested wiping the database of items owned by characters 2 months old, this idea is doable I believe but not marketing-wise realistic. Heck a few weeks ago they announced they were giving a free week of playing for all old players who cancelled their account because they believed player cities mounts and vehicles were a good reason to give the game a 2nd chance. As a profit making company SOE always want to live with the hope that some of the old players will come back at some point, and this mere hope is enough, from a company point of view to not wipe database for old players. It's the same in DAoC and other games (i'm saying that since you talked about these games as well and i have played em for quite a while). And btw, this trend (of increasing stacks) is something found in most MMORPGs, DAoC increased stacks of most items to 100 quite recently.

When I talk about "twisted changes" of course I don't *think* it, I guess I'll have to learn that all readers of these forumsdon't have enough insight and understanding of human thoughts complexity (when I say in RL i want to kill someone because i'm very angry it doesn't mean i'm actually going to make it) and that I should try to make my express my thoughts as simply as possible. I honestly believe SOE wants the best for its game... be it just to make sure they earn enough money to feed their families. Yet anticipatingthe effects of a change in a mmorpg, imo,is doubtless the most difficult thing to do in today's computer game industry (much more than developing Half Life 2 engine for example). As such SOE made some mistakes, made good moves, will make mistakes, will make good moves. Forums are a good way to help and prevent reduce the risk of mistakes.

So what I meant by "twisted changes" is changes where SOE failed at anticipating the effects, and had in the cure was more damaging than the initial problem. On a different topic, this is what i'm afraid of in the upcoming experimentation change with all the stockpiling that is being done by some crafters.

Lastly, in response to you saying "Its sickening how so many people are so ready to insult SOE and still play their game", I'll take it as if you also mean "pay" by saying "play" : it's specifically because I'm paying and playing SWG that I feel i'm in right to criticize the game and SOE. I have passed a contract in which I pay 15€ a month in exchange of a service. A contract in which I hope to have the best and where SOE wants to make its best to not lose me as a costumer. With that in mind, SOE provided me with forums to express myself, to inform me of what they're going to make, to criticize both in good or in bad (although humans tend to always say when it's bad and *forget* to say when it's good), and suggest new ideas when I have any.

Moreover, I didn't like when you extrapolated the fact I believe "SOE actually doesn't listen"... but then this must be because you misunderstood my post, I always post in these forums with the hope it's the best way to reach SOE when it comes to ideas and critics.

I agree however, and apologize for the fact my post wasn't constructive at all. But I didn't had much to add to Caddelite's post apart from agreeing, but thought I could add humor to my post by writing it in an ironic tone and especially making fun of the candles and wax idea in a futuristic star wars setting. Obviously it wasn't funny -or- misunderstood (depends on thepoint of view) and for this i apologize.

What does make me sick now is that I spent so much of my real life time to justifiy myself... I guess I don't like being misunderstood

As a side note, I doubt Caddelite's idea is enough to solve the DB problem but it sure would be a step in the right direction. And I think everyone agrees with that, including Caddelite as proven by he using a question for title (would? etc...).

Seems a great idea. It would free up needed space and make keeping track of items much easier while easing the load on the SWG database.
