I made the money over time and purchased them. I got 2 nice pieces from loyal customers at about 1mil per point when they were going for 2-3mil per point. The rest I purchased on auctions with money from my WS business that I started on from Launch day.

The original topic of this post is right though, people do put too much importance on having 12points.
Ive had people refuse to buy standard weapons from me because they thought they would get alot better from a 12pt, they didnt believe that the speed and damage wouldnt be any better and thought I was a bad weaponsmith just because i didnt have 12pts, they didnt even look at my weapons or vendor.
I will agree that bringing the HAM down a few points or the condition up a bit is a nice bonus but I think 12pts only make a difference for those serious PvP players who use enhanced weapons and doesnt really make a difference for someone looking for a standard weapon.

Okay, as a 10 pt new master weaponsmith I'm wondering how you guys came to getting your 12 pts. I mean, I know how you get it, but I'm talking about raising the credits to get it. I mean you have to be fairly rich to get the attachments. I have maybe 5 million credits and with harvesting/buying resources, the weapons I'm making aren't paying the bills. I'm sure once I get the resources I need and not have to pay that extra money, I'll start bringing in a profit. Though with all the 'smiths on my server(eclipse), especially 12 pt smiths, it's going to take a while to build up credits thatI can actually keep(not put back into resources). I guess I'm asking is it feesable that I can make the money to buy the attachment/tapes solely from my WS business? Did you guys?

Spend your money on great resources. Buy the tapes when you can. Trust me you will do much better with 20-30 million worth of great resources than you will with the same value worth of skill tapes.

Yep resources over points, but get points once you've got resources

I agree with the original poster. Alot of players think 12pt smiths make higher max dmg and faster weapons...what 90% of combat/PVP players dont understand is that the extra 2pts can only be used in Range/Condition/HAM (apart from the adv. stocks....). I've been a 10pt smith for over a year and been making weapons that are the same as the 12pts (damage and speed). The only difference is condition/HAM/Range, but again, all the smiths on my server slice before sale...so, the higher slice gets the sale...be it a 10pt or a 12pt made weapon, its all down to slice imo.

If you love making weapons and you're not just in the prof for the 'riches' lol...then invest in the extra 2pt's as they will make you feel better about what you craft.

Tip for the new masters out there....spend your first few million credits on resources....not tapes. As its said many many times 10pt + Top Resource > 12pt + not so good resources....

Thanks

You do know that +20 exp is the cap for Experimentation, goign to +25 offers no bonus, right?

+20 gets to the 2 extra points, but the extra +5 helps with avoiding moderate successes.

Could be an old wive's tale. Really there is no way to prove whether it does or not.

I guess only those with +25 willknow through experience.

ya, this has been a problem for me, people go "can u make me a weapon?"
i reply "sure, what ya need"
" a stun baton?"
"Sure"
"how many point WS are u?"
"10"
"....nm...bye" *darts off*

i have only found a few times when i can put extra points into damage, mostly in components, and everyonce and a while ill get a weapon that i could. but usually i can only fit 7-9

Hey,

In my personal experience, I notice a much bigge difference between 10 and 11 pts than from 11 to 12. I'm glad I have never paid a cent for these as i have a great bunch of friends. 12pt armorsmith is a different story all together...lol. But like everyone has said, RESOURCES are the key. I've been a Master Weaponsmith for going on 9 months. I'm so bored with it right now waiting for the new weapons that I'm throwing all these random components into trash weapons (Krayt D18, Geo core 2h Cleaver, Ackley 2h Axe, Nym Vibro Blade). I'm really really really hoping that the resources if they change for certain weapons or need new resources all together, will have really great spawns for the first few months. Because Resources are the key and they make more of a difference than I had ever imagined.

this is the problem, RIGHT THERE

How do new WS, whether focused at fulfilling guild, custom or volume orders ever going to be able to collect that if they are in competition with 12+ smiths? Excellent resources should be the great leveller (great resources == great products), but the hype and over-concern by all players (FOTM, veterans, all) on "12 points" make it really difficult to break in. Sure that's part of the challenge of the game --running a business --but lately between the upcoming CU, the vendor changes which has flooded the market, tissues not going down in price (at least on my server), I'm getting discouraged.

I wish they would get rid of the additional points all together and just have it as quality resources as the only variable (with FS).

Heaven forbid it should ever take some time, effort, or creativity to overcome the advantage that more established smiths have over newer smiths. It gets so boring to hear people cry about how someone else is keeping them from reaching their own potential that sometimes I want to cry FOR them. First of all, if you are guilded and your guildmates aren't supporting your development as a crafter you need a better guild. Secondly, most 12 pt smiths don't get more business just because they have more points, they also get business because people have come to know them personally because they've been playing longer and people develop shopping habits when they find reliable vendors, and also more established crafters also tend to get more/better loot offered to them as they probably have better connections with loot hunters than do newer crafters.

How do you overcome the disadvantages and elevate yourself to more equal footing with other crafters? The first thing you must do is lose the victim mentality and adopt a fighter mentality. Recognize the challenge you face and develop strategies to build your own client base. Embrace your status as the "underdog" in the crafter wars and promote yourself as an alternative to the evil corporate crafters. Work the trade forums and advertise your wares often so people come to know you. Make some of your best weapons, get them sliced and give them away and ask the recipients to consider you for their future weapons purchases. Do a credit/item giveaway where everyone that purchases a weapon from you over a period of time gets an entry to the giveaway. Start a frequent buyer's club where players get a free weapon after purchasing a certain number. These are just a few ideas but there are plenty of things you can do to compete with more established crafters.

i couldnt agree more. a huge part of this game, with the large variety of smiths to shop from, is reputation. i personally have been a MWS since july 03. almost all my sales are custom weapons. my customers know me, know what im capable of, and have full confidence in me because i have been around so long.

as for resources, its a lot of dedication to keep up, but for all the stuff i make, i have the #1 spawn..ever. so that does help out. you want to be in the position that your customers seek you out, not you having to seek customers out. and that is done over time, and by reputation.

I was a 10 pnt WS for quite a while and made some very nice weaps. I ended up surrenduring. Then I was able to get +24 in WS experiementation, now I'm grinding it out a second time (with an alt this time so I never have to surrender it again). Resources are king in any crafting prof, but nobody (in their right mind) is going to front the cash for the tapes just to use bunk resources. If both have good resources, a 12 pnt smith will out perform a 10 pnt smith any day....where is the question in that? And damage is not the only stat...granted it is the most important, but take a 10 pnt smith's LLC with maxed damage and 900 condition and pit it against a 12 pnt smith's LLC with maxed dam and 1100 cond. Hmmm...which won will I pick?

As for a WS reputation, the price is included with craftmanship. If you are a good smith but are grossly over priced, that IS your rep. I sell my stuff incredibly cheap...that's the rep I want in addition to the craftmanship. Hell I give away weapons all the time just to tell people to spread my name. The fact that I had a real scumbag try to take advantage of me on scylla with his prices and ego is the whole reason I sell cheap and give stuff away....I want his buisness...all of it. My main char is a master smugg, when some one hands me a weapon with his tag on it, I'll make a better one for free.
