its pretty easy to find a good ny vibro motor aswell. i went to nyms stronghold for one night and killed everything in the city. got me a +25 damage motor wich i had my WS friend use in a pair och knucklers for me. the result, with 30% damage slice they now have max damage at 223.
I went there a few days later and got some more +20 damage motors. therefore i dont think its so hard to pieces to have a WS make them for you

I believe that the highest damage you can get with a crafted VK without a loot component is 147. If you were to luck out and actually get a 35% damage slice on it, you'd end up with a 198 max damage VK. That means that you need a Nym or Nightsister motor to get a VK over 200 points. To suggest that a VK is only good if you make it with a looted component is unrealistic.
New players, don't listen to the people who say that you have to have over 200 damage in a VK for it to be "good". That's unfair and unrealistic. Really, 180 or more is ok, 190 or more is the best you can hope for without paying serious cash.
/agree
I regularly use a 189 max damage vk for my everyday PvE haven't had any problems with those, and if I get in a pinch, I'll just add a p/up with a 16% damage increase, I have a set of 206 max that I use for PvP

Depends on what you are doing. For PvE yeah 180 or 190 will do, but if you really want to be competitive in PvP why not make an effort to be competitive and get good VKs? It's not like it takes that much time, just a day of casually farming nym missions and you should get at the least a few base vibro motors.

It's not like 10 damage points will be the difference between being competitive in PvP or not. And it's not easy to get the right Nym motors, I literally live on Lok and have never looted one worth putting in a VK.

Hehe, IMO all the Nym High Powered Vibro Motors are worth putting in a VK

40-50 damage will help at least a little bit. You must have bad luck, I did nym missions for 20 minutes yesterday and got a base motor. Are you doing the big camps with 3-4 npcs?

"Hehe, IMO all the Nym High Powered Vibro Motors are worth putting in a VK"
I'm not talking about High Powered Motors. There are 2 other kinds and they're less than worthless. The High Powered ones seem to be the ones that are really hard to find.

Thanks for all the help.
I'm only TK 0/1/1/1 so I guess the best bet is to get a speed sliced VK.
BTW
Any VK vendors on LOWCA that have good speed VKs?
Cheers

check star forge on Lok. They had alot of regular type VKs for sale, 16k each I believe. Worst comes to worst, buy a couple and find a smuggler to slice em for you, but I'm pretty sure they had pre-sliced ones.

People tend to dump the speed sliced VK's onthe bazaar, at least on Chilastra. Been picking up 1.6 and 1.7 sliced VK's for 6k

Ok here's how you calculate speed (bear with me).
Take the base speed of your weapon, multiply it by the delay modifier of the move you're doing, and multiply that by 100 minus your weapon speed bonus divided by 100.
Let's give an example. Let's say you have a VK with a speed of 2. You have a unarmed speed bonus of +50, and you're doing unarmed hit 1 which has a delay modifier of 2. The math is as follows:
2 (weapon speed) * 2 (delay modifier) * [{100-50(unarmed speed)}/100]
2*2*[{100-50}/100]=2*2*[50/100]=4*.5=2
So you'd end up with a 2 second delay on your attack. That means that when you use unarmed hit 1 with that VK the attack takes 2 seconds to complete.
The key to this is the unarmed speed bonus. When that reaches 100, look what happens to the last part of the formula:
(100-100)/100=0/100=0
When you have 100 speed the whole formula comes out to zero, because zero divided by anything is zero, and zero times anything is zero. The game has a minimum delay of 1 second though, so even if the formula says zero you end up doing 1 second attacks. However, this means that if your speed score ever reaches or exceeds 100, all of your attacks no matter what will be one second attacks.
Note that a TKM has +115 speed. You have +95 speed at Power Techniques 4, or +100 if you are also a master brawler. That means that a TKM or someone even close to TKM no longer has any need for speed tapes, they already hit the 1 second cap.
