Thread: Im Afraid Weapon Caps HAVE to go
I agree with removing the ADK's personally, but it'll never happen. There are so many people that have invested billions of credits to ADK their entire suit of armor, all their weapons, blah blah blah that half the people in the game would probably leave or do something worse.
SOE had an extremely huge moment of stupidity when they first added them, but now that they are in game there is no way to take them out. Which is why I hope they put a lot of thought into the 2 year vetran rewards....
Nice idea - won't happen. The current dev team is the devil spawn of EQ2. In EQ 2, all weapons in the same tier (think CL) had the exact same DPS. The only reason to choose one weapon over another was looks.
Since these guys are obsessed with "balance", they will do whatever they can to make sure that things are as even as they can be. Even when you look at the difference between the weapon cap and the best you can do without enhancements, the difference isn't really that big. The only thing that looks better in comparison are the looted weapons. I suspect that in the end it's all about control. Setting caps is the only way they know how to control crafters.
It's very sad, but I don't think it will change. This still remains the best game for crafting, but it is being whittled down bit by bit. I guess it's difficult to balance the fighter/crafter game and the tide has definitely turned in the fighters' favor. I still make more money with my WS, but I end up playing my MS/MBH alt more often because it's more fun now. Unfortunately, there really aren't any alternatives out there for this type of gameplay.

don't know about the 1.1k ph yeah it was lethal at close range and all but pretty much you could run away grom it. but that legendary t21... damn a rifleman before just really neede +10 to be speed caped.. and since it was legendary he would probably not even need that. only thing he would have to do is just stand like 50m from were players load at an sp and just do headshot if it's one guy or strafe2 if it's multiple ones and there you got that entire group incaped by one guy in one shot. i know i was hit both by a legendary/exceptional t21 to mind for 3.5k and thats not cool and i've also been hit by a ph for 1.2 and you can recover from a hit like that. i rather be hit with an uber ph that someone crafted even if it was the same guy to loot, craft and slice it than being hit or have a group go dead because some lucky chump got lucky killing a NS or krayt and just became a 1 man army.
on all this i do think it sucks that there are caps on weapons and that those caps can't be broken by slicing it.. pretty much will make WS quit in like 4-5 months once everyone has their perfect weapon and adked. there will be no more need for us. sad but it looks like it could very well happen.

If you just up everyones health or resistances to accomodate these 2 shot weapons, it just makes people without them even more obsolete. Caps are good and should stay for these reasons, otherwise we will end up in the same situation as before the CU.
There are only 3 possible outcomes in this area:
1. Leave everything as is - game gets full of capped, balanced weapons because of ADK's. Weaponsmiths may get bored.
2. Remove the caps - game gets gets full of high stat super weapons because of ADK's. Combat becomes unbalanced, everyone except Weaponsmiths are unhappy.
3. Same as above, except changes are made to health/buffs/armor/whatever to accomodate these super weapons - Anyone without one is gimped, but Weaponsmiths are happy.
Number 1 is the best option and something that we as Weaponsmiths are going to have to accept. The best we can do, without screwing over the rest of the game or other professions, is to come up with something creative that will not unbalance the game and not reverse everything the CU did.
We need to look at the bigger picture as there is more to this game than being a Weaponsmith.

No offense mate but it seems that its you who isnt looking at the big picture- this isnt about Weaponsmiths- it will affect most of the people who play SWG.
And im not 'bored' as a WS its just i see no point in continuing to churn out capped weapons, i just stick to making weapons on request or for my Bro. You see i dont play this game to be Equal- why would i want to be the same as someone else nevermind everyone. When i first started playing SWG i was amazed by some players, i thought i was the 'dogs' when i hit master marksman
but then i saw other people hitting for 3-4k. I didnt think hey thats not fairthey shouldnt be any better than me, i thought WOW, cool, i cant wait till im up there with the likes of them. And then i was but i didnt stop there, i wanted to be better, i wanted better armor and better weapons- and so i did just that. And then CRASH! the CU hit- Nice DE10-worthless, armor-worthless, template-worthless, This didnt bother me iknew what was coming, i just had to start again, get to another good template, get my nice weapon and my cool armor- and i have. But now what?? you seen money will become pointless- i have nothing to spend my money on now, im not uber and im not rich but my game has no room for improvement. But you you can buy loot, what loot? Krayt tissues, shards- why would i buy these? ive already reached the limit. And im pressuming LS have a damage cap, so when they are ADK'd who will buy pearls? Ok so thats Krayt Dragons no longer needed-oh but wait they now drop slicing tools-great........what? slicing is capped too! Fine scrap the krayt dragons we dont need 'em.There used to be the crafters and the looters, the looters would buy the weapons/armor and use these to go and get loot to sell back to the crafters- this my friends WAS BALANCE.soon alot of Ws and other crafters will become bored and will either quit or respec to a combat profession. We will all have our ADK'd Weapons and we will all be looting- but we will be doing it for nothing.
As for PvP, well surely this will just come down to whoever gets the first hit- wow that sounds like fun! Now when i lose a fight i dont moan because they were better than me, i trot off and have a think how i can improve (a better weapon, better armor, maybe switch a few skills) but soon this will be impossible, everyone will work out which is the best profession, then get the best weapon (same as everyone else).Now tell me now, where does been equal look like fun. i see a difference between balance and equal. Equal- everything is the same- it goes no where - game ends. Balance- different aspects of the game work together in harmoney to keep it flowing- the game continues steadily.
Now it seems to me you dont like the idea of a shrew eating a worm, then a cat eating the shrew, then a wolf eating the cat, then a tiger eating the wolf, then a man shooting the tiger but also a tiger can eat a man ( although undoubtly some are better than others none are completely safe ) providing they all lived together on an island this would happen and it would work- if it was full of tigers sooner or lately they would just die.Now take a look at whats happening to SWG, we were like the island of cats, shrew and wolfs, getting eaten by a cat but coming back as a wolf. Now i wouldnt say we are heading for the land of tigers- more like a field of fluffy white sheep!
Now i may have gone off topic here-but this IS the big picture! and its happening now!

Then again, I agree with what you are saying to a degree; the world (that's REAL world) does work that way and so should SWG to a certain extent - afterall, it is populated by real, living beings i.e. the players!
Froma crafter point of view (armoursmith) I've already seen my profession become less than entertaining and from a combat point of view I can definately appreciate how frustrating it can become trying to find better weapons.
If some people are concerned about imbalancing thenmake it hard to push past the cap, but don't make it impossible!
Nice post, and for all the naysayers, you can caphigh cap scatter with 140 damage tissues, best tissues i've seen are about 200. Do you really think a 1008 max scatter pistol (as opposed to a 948) will be gamebreaking? Trust me, I've seen the affects a legendary T21 (preCU of course) can have on an entire server, and I don't want to go back to that. But they system as it stands now certainly won't allow crafters to unbalance things too badly.
People tend to talk in extremes. Perfect balance is boring, and 2700 max T21 are intolerable. A happy medium DOES exist, I just think we're too close to the carebear friendly, commie balance utopia.
To make this clear from the start, I think any kind of caps is ridiculous. It's easy to cap it without a cap per say, cap the Krayt tissues at 200 and slices at 20% and that's a cap, but it's a "natural" cap it's not a hard "artificial" cap, give you something to look forward too. It's ridiculous to have 200 krayt tissues that are not any better than 150 tissues.... follow this and you'll never have weapons that are so good that it's silly, just cap the loot and slices (just like resources and experimentation is already capped). for the slices I don't mean to cap it at a max damage, but at a certain %, like it was capped at 35% before the CU.
Also, part of the problem why so many people are afraid of seeing weapons that are too powerful is the presence of ADKs. Those ARE too powerfull. You never saw the 3000 damage T21 in use before the ADK.... and no wonder, would you use that weapon if it could break? So, imo they should not only remove the caps, but the ADKs aswell. That way no one is ever set for life. I would not be against higher condition to compensate a little. I remember when the ADKs first came out, my first reaction was that the DEVs really shot themselves in the foot with it. And we see the effects of this now in caps and other nonsense.
