C (by email): hi could u make me a special really good scatter pistol better than 1.8 speed 113-140 damage non sliced.thanks bye!
(replied with my complete weapons-on-vendor update spam mail)
C: Check that email I sent you.
MWS:Yes, and I'm sorry to say, those kind of stats are completley out of any WS's skill.
C: Can you make the best you can, and what would that be?
MWS: did you read the email I sent you?
C: yeah. is that the best you can make?
Please note, it has only gotten better. I was laughing so hard, that I referred him to the message forum, and after he read it, then I would talk to him further...

ok so i happen to be by my store during a busy time of the day. i really never have my weaponsmith logged on during these times because it really just saves me headaches. so this guy notices me and comes running up to me and goes "hey bro hook me up with a deal". so i laugh and go ther are plenty of deals on the vendor. he then says "oh so your not goin to hook me? weak." usually i just ignore these things because the do happen but i had to ask this guy a question. i then go to him why shoudl i hook you up with a deal? for 1 who are you? we are not friends and i have never really talked to you. he then goes oh we talked before i asked you abotu so and so weapon. i go i have tons of epopel that ask me about weapons that doesnt mean i know them and am friendly with them. so then i say well i have lots of very good customers that have spent an awful lot of money in my stores that never ever asked me to hook them up nor did i ever even offer to hook them up. do you think because you had a brainstorm to come and ask me to hook you up that i will suddenly give you stuff for half price? i told him i dont run a charity house and if that doesnt sit well with you then you know where the door is
he never said anything else and just purchased his items.

lol, I'm not a weaponsmith, but this is great stuff.
I must say one thing for the 'general consumer' though. Have you guys ever counted the number of
a: empty vendors
b: vendors by WS's who DO only make a certain specific types of weapons.
c: weaponsmiths who simply can't craft the high-end weaponry everyone is looking for.
I'm guilty, I have asked a weaponsmith: how good are your two-handed curved swords?
I asked that because after looking at every vendor I found, I managed to find 70% empty vendors, 5% who simply didn't craft two handed curveds and 25% whose curveds simply sucked, as if indeed they had kept the 'good stuff' for special customers. Getting the answer 'they usually turn out 40-230' (most common answer, a decent minority was lower than that, very few higher), means I can spare us both time by saying no thanks, I want one that is actually worth using (talking 65-250) at high end. I COULD of course ask a WS to make me one if they're not already on their vendor, but then I'd either have to tell him'no, it sucks, I don't want it.', or since I keep my promises as a rule, I'd be forced to buy a sword I'd have no use for.
Sure, a lot of weapons are commonly crafted about as good as they get, but it's a real **edit** to find a high-end weapon, because almost all weaponsmith vendors I can find have crappy stuff, are empty, or have high end weapons except the oneIm looking for.
The above made sense when I was typing it, just so you know
I just wanted to mention that a lot of these questions sound stupid, but are made necessary by the many crappy weapons and empty vendors in existance. Other than that, they're still good fun to read, even for people who don't have to deal with that stuff regularly.

Well, let me tell you that with your Two-handed Curved Sword you are looking for a weapon which is made with resource stats near 1000 (maximum). Now consider a chance of 1:1000 for that to spawn and also consider that you need 3 such resources and you will likely find the reason why not every second WS has these resources at their disposal.
All WS make the best weapons they can and don't like if someone comes around looking for "the good stuff".
"...means I can spare us both time by saying no thanks..."
So how does this spare the time of the WS?

well that explains the fact that I've only once been able to find swords that good, which is also why I bought five of them on the spot
Still, look at any random weapon, a long vibro axe maybe. The ranges of quality of these things varies so enormously, it's just not funny anymore trying to find a decent polearm. One WS makes em 100-370 @ 4.4, another makes em 80-300 @ 4.5. Since I've actually seen plenty of this type of weapon it's not unreasonable to assume they can be made pretty decently. So when you find a bunch of the 300s, it creates the illusion that that weaponsmith is simply not crafting as best as he can. If he is, how can he sell anything at all when there are others so much better? The resources for the weapon are readily available because plenty of smiths DO manage to obtain them, so what other explanation is there?
The fastest assumption to be made, mind you, I don't make it, is that he simply doesn't bother to make the 'good stuff' and is only around to make some money through as little effort as possible.

The fact is that the resources are not readily available. You have to collect them for months to get the good ones or even know what the good ones are.
When I made master I couldn't make most ranged weapons and had to wait for 3 months until one of the required resources appeared again. I can assure you that the difference in quality is completely depended on the resources you have. Given the same resources 2 Master WS will make the same weapon (maybe with a small difference in HAM/range/condition, depending on skill tapes).
Sometimes you just have the choice of building the weapon with resources that are not the best, just because you have no better ones, or you just don't build the weapon at all.
Buying the best resources is impossible, since everyone is sitting on them (and you would need 40-50 specific ones by the way), forget that...

That weaponsmith IS crafting as best he can. This is limited by the quality of resources he/she has collected.
The different qualities of the same weapon types you are seeing is a result of how good the particular weaponsmiths resources are.
The best WS have spent countless hours and/or credits collecting the best resources available for thier weapons. Non WS would be shocked at the sheer number of specific resources required to make all available weapons.

I think all people should see this post so they understand what a weaponsmith goes through.

Retired back in Jan, great thread, but reminds me why I had to retire
They should put a vendor in the tutorial with 10,000 nested items. And you have to buy an item on the 5th page on each catagory before you can first log in the game AT ALL.
So many times when I was active, I got the "u r out of ______", when I had just put 50 of the item in question on the vendor.
Many of the tells I received when I was an active weaponsmith, I have already seen posted, but the T-21 /shudder
A sample convo:
l33tRifleman: u have t-21 yet?
Me: no, the gemstone hasn't spawned yet
l33tRifleman: have u looked at all the plaents?
Me: (response I wish to make: No, I sit here and watch the male robas climb up and down the hill outside my shop all day. Wait, there are other planets in the game?)
Me: (actual response) I do check most of the major planets, and the adventure planets about once every two days. Plus it would be posted in the forums, I'm sure
(I forced myself to always be courteous, which probably led to my burnout)
l33tRifleman: u cant make ? i paymore 4 one
Me: (desired response - really? how much? 2,000 more credits? 10,000? Oh, thank you Great Benefactor!)
Me: (actual response) the gemstone is not in the game yet, it has never spawned on Radiant.
l33tRifleman: what isit called
Me: Gallinorian Rainbow gemstone
l33tRifleman: what u need to find it?
Me: novice surveyor, and a survey tool
(loading factory with resources and power handler schematic)
Me: /sit
l33tRifleman: if i find some, will u make one?
Me: sure!
l33tRifleman: what other rifles u have?
Me:/logout
You have 25 secs remaining
Me: all are on my vendor on Talus, outside of Nashal /waypoint 3345 4395.
You have 15 secs remaining
Me:The laser rifles do the most dmg, and will probably be better than the T21
You have 5 secs remaining
Me; when it does come out. Have a nice day!
You have logged out
If only wookies COULD tear people's arms off in this game.
/sigh
I miss the crafting, but not the incessant, frustrating tells, more so because I always try to follow the Golden Rule

This is a conversation that I get a lot while hanging around Anchorhead (its a relatively busy place on farstar).
Idiot: "Hi, need gun plz"
Me: "What type of gun do you want?"
Idiot "Riffels"
Me: "Yep but what type of rifle?"
Idiot: "dunno"
Me: " What is your rifle skill?"
Idiot: "3" (the point here being that they've got to rifles 3 and still don't know anything)
Me: "OK you need a laser rifle, I can sell you one for 6k"
Idiot: "only have 50 credz".
Don't get me wrong, I do help newbs out with free guns from time to time, mainly the real newbs who just look completely lost and need some help, heck this is a confusing game to start. What gets me though is people who have obviously been playing for a bit, and still haven't grasped the fact that you need money to buy stuff.
