Thread: Why should we get an additional damage type? Dev's want to know.

"If the Dev's think that our limited damage types and lack of bleeds are part of the class balance I say we agree with them and shut up. Not because I wouldnt love a bleed or 20 kinds of knucklers, but because I can live without them... If my choice is between getting extra damage types, bleeds, and armor piercing, but at the expense of nerfing my cool Teras Kasi skills, then I say screw it. Leave us as we are.
the *MOST* I'd be in favor of is *ONE* special move, preferebly in a level 3 or 4 box that does an alternate style of damage, stun or restraint, either way. Make it equivelent to unarmed-hit-2; so that at master its still in our interest to use kinetic, but should the situation arise; we have an alternative. Maybe not a great alternative, but SOMETHING against a super-kinetic-resist."
IMO...best post so far....well put
If new skills mean future nerfs, then I would rather be just left alone.
If a new damage type means a nerf of some sort then leave us with kinetic only.
Remember the devs have limited us to one damage type to provide balance (read their responses to mister_heavy's top five)
If we get multiple damage types then we should expect a nerf to compensate.
I'm happy with kinetic only personally. We do engage in unarmed combat so technically a weapon (even a knuckle) means we are no longer "unarmed" so to speak.
I would say some sort of blunt stun damage weapon would be good, maybe introduced at the upper end of the tree, or as a TKA master weapon.
This could be like the nunchakus or a short staff.
Another somewhat more frivolous sugestion would be some sort of 'glowy' energy weapon, like a small laser blade.
This is more because it would look cool and as a master TKA weapon it would have a 'I'm a master' look to it. ![]()

I don't agree with the current argument that TKA shouldn't get stun as an alternate damage simply because 'composite armor is vulnerable to it' Stun layers can be added, it just makes the armor more expensive both in cred and HAM to wear. If you believe that stun damage would be overpowered in teh game as a whole, not just in PVP, then you need to take a look at what mobs would suddenly become a joke for TKA to deal with, as opposed to nigh impossible at the moment. What are the armor ratings, resistances, and vulnerabilities of the creatures we can't currently take, that we'd like to be able to?
Overall, I'd prefer a special that gives us the alternate damage type, over a weapon. If its possible, make it so you can't use it with Vk equipped, or MUST be used with Vk equipped (similar to overcharge shot)
heres some ideas in my head
Unarmed Head Hit 2 at master TK ONLY...... Produces 30 click Bleed on all 3 stats (let a black belt in some form of martial arts hit you as hard as they can in the temple see what happens)
and/or a power some what simliar to WarCry cept holds the targets aggro on you
would help when fighting something big so you hold the aggro so the ranged players will be safe from the target...
i also like the restrain idea ![]()
With the combat revamp they've already talked about adding new weapons at different levels in the tree. This would allow for a new damage type that's scaled to your abilities. Solving the perception of us being overpowered already and a new weapon type making us more overpowered.
The biggest concern, and everyone can probably agree, is that some mobs have a very high kinetic resist or close to it. All we really need is an average damage type and weapon to still be useful when put against this sort of creature.
We don't need something fancy, like stun or restraint. That just adds to the perception that TKA's are overpowered. Give us VK's that do heat or electricity, maybe an energy type. Just so we have a choice when it comes to high resist mobs. Nothing overpowering or we're just asking for trouble and it will constantly be "being looked at" for balancing and cries for nerf will directed at us forever.

Hey I like that idea. Its not exactly a "damage type" but I like the idea of it. Its kinda like Ranger's "/rescue" though so...I dont know if that would step on any toes. Being a Ranger myself I can say that "/rescue" doesnt really work most of the time plus you have to target an individual you want to rescue.

Stun - (Not my fault people made so much Composite without this protection)
Speed - (Terrain: Tired of average joe being able to kite me to death I should be Fit enough to run like an Athlete)
I'm perfectly happy doing only kinetic damage. Sure I can't scratch the Nightsister Elders at all, but I can always pick up another combatprofession or just take up medic and heal everyone around me.We might not be able to hunt a Peko Peko Albatross, butwe can alway benefit a group by training a support class.I think an additional damage type for us would be "insane," since I can drop someone in Composite almost as fast as I can drop someone unarmored provided I am burstrunning andknockdown2 lands.
We're definitely strong enough as it is.

ok, i haven't read through ALL of the posts in this thread yet, but about 90% of the ones that i did are not providing any REASONS WHY we should get an additional damage type. it's great that we all have these ideas on what we want, but no one is really providing a WHY, which is what the devs want to see.
i find it hard to argue for another damage type given the fact that we are already seen as the most powerful melee class with our unique abilities (meditation line, kd/dizzy combo). it seems that having only kinetic damage is how our class is balanced with others.
the best reason i can come up with is the fact that we do NOT have any DOTs. this is a HUGE disadvantage in both pvp, and especially in pve. i've seen other classes stack their 2 diff bleeds which tick off thousands of damage each time. in pvp this is true but to a lesser extent. i've seen plenty of master swordsmen bleed someone in the mind and take off running. heheh, the melee kiters. i believe all the other pure combat elite classes have a DOT of some sort. IMO that's reason to give us at least ONE other damage type. i'm not asking for a whole aresenal of diff. types of weapons as i understand the lack of having diff types of damage is to balance the tka with other classes. maybe just one other type like stun but give up any AP on the alternative weapon.
just my 2 credits worth.
