if tkas are over powered how come with a pair of 140 damage vk's i can hit for like 300 damage normal attack and up to 1k with uahit3

The damage bonus gets applied to all damage output as though it is base damage. The base damage on just your fists is 10-20. Ater considering the damage bonus of a TKM the fists are equivalent to 260-270. A VK with a max damage of 140 is roughly equivalent to a weapon of another profession that has a base damage of 390. A good sliced VK can hit 50-200 or so damage and is equivalent to a base damage of 300-450, This will need a normal attack damage of 450-625.

This is knowledge that in part I have come to after reading the posts of your own correspondent Mister Heavy.

but with brawler 2 handed 2 i can hit with a curved two handed sword for 1k normal attack and up to 1200 because it hasnt gone any higher than that yet with 2 handed hit 2?

I happen to be carrying a 2h curved on my character right now (stats are 49-282). Here are my first 8 normal attacks with it:
You swing at Axy Icali (an Aa'kuan defender) and hit for 109 points of damage.
You swing at Axy Icali (an Aa'kuan defender) and hit for 130 points of damage.
You swing at Axy Icali (an Aa'kuan defender) and hit for 89 points of damage.
You swing at Axy Icali (an Aa'kuan defender) and hit for 167 points of damage.
You swing at Axy Icali (an Aa'kuan defender) and hit for 322 points of damage.
You swing at Axy Icali (an Aa'kuan defender) and hit for 271 points of damage.
You swing at Axy Icali (an Aa'kuan defender) and hit for 411 points of damage.
You swing at Axy Icali (an Aa'kuan defender) and hit for 390 points of damage.
Total damage: 1889

Here are my first 8 normal attacks against the same guy with my VK's (damage 48-187):
You swing at Axy Icali (an Aa'kuan defender) and hit for 577 points of damage.
You swing at Axy Icali (an Aa'kuan defender) and hit for 592 points of damage.
You swing at Axy Icali (an Aa'kuan defender) and hit for 632 points of damage.
You swing at Axy Icali (an Aa'kuan defender) and hit for 585 points of damage.
You swing at Axy Icali (an Aa'kuan defender) and hit for 586 points of damage.
You swing at Axy Icali (an Aa'kuan defender) and hit for 602 points of damage.
You swing at Axy Icali (an Aa'kuan defender) and hit for 455 points of damage.
You swing at Axy Icali (an Aa'kuan defender) and hit for 571 points of damage.
Total damage: 4600

Note that the 2h curved normal damage will never improve as there is no damage bonus for swordsmen.

Ok, so which mob am I supposed to hit for 1k with a 2h curved? I can get a 65-250 2h curved sliced nicely but I'm not sure this is going to help nearly so much as I will need to match your claims. I'm not claiming that this is an exhaustive test that I have performed, but it is absolutely in line with my prior experiences (I have played into the swordsman profession a bit myself).

Correct, however that is an immature mindset and will change as you mature (hopefully you haven't matured already)... you should always be thinking about unintended consequences.

Misinformation spreads easily. All you need would be for fifteen people to misunderstand your context and assume that you were referring to live servers and suddenly 75 people have seen a tka solo a krayt and then a nerf movement is born.

A previous poster said something to the effect of, "let not the mind follow the tongue." I'm inclined to agree with him.

So it sounds like you are admitting that you messed up? That's all I wanted to hear.

As a side note...

The passage from which that particular quote comes is not in the earliest manuscripts so it is doubtful that the event ever took place.

You haven't responded to this question in the original post: Shouldnt he be discussing these things with the TKA correspondant, or TH and all the other correspondants on their "private' boards?

To jump into a thread that intention is to single out TKAs on the live servers as overpowered with detailed proof of how they are overpowered on the test servers with the 'Correspondent' tag is why almost everyone here has jumped on you and what we calling you on.

Back to the original point are TKAs overpowered compared to Fencers or Pikemen? Probably. Are they overpowered compared to many other professions, such as BH/Pistoleer, BH/Carbineer, Smuggler, Commando, Swordsman or Creature Handler? Not in the slightest.

So it sounds like you are admitting that you messed up?

My point is not: this was a screw up. My point is that you wish to hold me to an impossible standard and that this very thread is about the worst possible response to the imperfection that you think is such an indication of immaturity. My point is that insulting my character simply because you can, through a lot of work, take something I stated out of context, is probably not so mature in and of itself. Are my posts imperfect? Sure. Any more imperfect than other posts? I don't see a reason to think so. Only a perfect poster should cast the stone at me for my level of imperfection here.

I fail to see how my statement could be more clear:

So the combat system works good at high levels? I was never able to test it with anything but my newbie TC character and it seemed like it was going to work good at a higher level and would make it easier. Thats good news

Yes, but it just got yanked.

It was too much. It's a good thing it didn't hit live because, as much as I enjoyed having all that power (I solo'ed giant kimos and juvenile krayts without buffs, both having been bumped to 50k HAM's this patch), there's no way it could have been left in as it was.

I am glad they are thinking about HAM usage and are trying out things. This attempt was too much however. They're on the right track though and hopefully we'll see some other changes soon.

Simply a response to an off-topic question.

Since giving me advice on how to do my job as a correspondent and behave as a human being seem to be of utmost importance to the TKA forum at this moment, do tell me where I was lacking in maturity in this post?

I have dealt with this very question in detail, see my other responses.

In short, I did not create a detailed proof, I simply answered a question that was asked of me with as much information as I could offer.

My role as a correspondent and as a Test Center player is to convey information. My role in that thread was exactly in line with this. I corrected some erroneous information about TKA damage and provided some additional information regarding my experiences on TC with the changed combat system. When challenged by various posters with arguments that I felt were not effective I explained as clearly as possible why I was not swayed by their arguments. This was an esoteric and constructive discussion about the nature of balancing a profession.

Just wanted to point out that the 2H Curved Sword has Medium Armor Piercing.

The actual damage numbers that floated over the MOB's head were probably pretty close to equal.

As a correspondent, yes you are held to a higher standard. Is that fair? Maybe not, but nevertheless people respect your opinion because they assume that SOE respects your opinion...even though that might not be the case. The President of the US is just as fallible as the next guy but he is still held to a higher standard regarding anything he might say or do. In the future you should either be more cautious with what you say or you should resign from your position.

I never said your post was lacking maturity. Your lack of mental maturity is evidenced by your attitude that you can say what you want and to hell with potential consequences because others might misunderstand.

He didn't ask for a nerf, but he did leteveryone know just how powerful TKA are, with some concrete #s.

**"All I did was make some true statements about things that TKA are capable of. TKA's do take 2.3 times less melee damage than people without melee toughness (2.6 with master brawler). VK's at TKM do deal 3.5 times more damage than the comparable AP1 fencer weapon (and twice as much damage as the AP0 gaderiffi baton). They are essentially equivalent to 300-440 damage weapons at 2.2 speed. They are capable of spamming specials at 1s each and do have relatively low HAM costs compared to other melee weapons. Even barefisted they do 250-260 damage which is a higher minimum damage than the maximum damage of any fencer weapon, and at a lower HAM cost than just about any weapon in the game. I can kill a huurton stalker in 18s for 5k xps, and could do so before this patch, at very little loss of HAM's and without using any brawler skills. Basically all this required of me was power techniques 2. If I can't take a 50k HAM krayt under the old HAM system then it will at least be a very close fight (unfortunately I won't have time to try this again tonight) and I will be relying very heavily on my TKA abilities to do so."**

Why arethe TKA so bent out of shape by that info being shown to the world? Do you not like other classes knowing that you can do far more damage, far faster, and with taking less damage than the other melee classes?

I don't have an issue with the concrete numbers. But also including information and pictures made using a test ham system on a test server had no relevance to the subject of current teras kasi power.

I want to say that from my experience on the Brawler forum StGabriel has been about as helpful and knowledgeable as possible. After reading all the posts in the thread so far, I have tosay i think most of you have over-reacted, in addition StGabe, that saying you were "unbuffed" after you had some Tat Sunburn is a hair inaccurate, especially considering that having a regen of Health and Action that high would be roughly equivelent to 1.5x a master meditating. I will say that yes we do have the highest toughness, but i for one never run around armored since the HAM cost is too high in anything but mabari, which leaves me vulnerable to blaster fire.

I went out and hit some rebels with my variety of weapons (I'm TKM, Fencer, and Swordsman). Gabe is right, our damage output over time is indeed very high, but the other classes have mitigating factors. For instance fencer has a significantly higher defensive capability than TKA, since i've added Fencer to my repretoire i notice even things that con yellow/red to me as a fencer and white/yellow as TKA hit me half as often at least. In addition the premier fencer weapon, although not tremendous in the damage department even with a damage slice (mine is 108-161) deals STUN damage, now there are plenty of things with really high stun resist, but equally many with vulnerability, especially NPCs which with a little dizzying makes short work of them all (Dizzy1 or 2 combined with lunge1). In PVE mind damage isnt a huge issue since it seems that most critters have a pitiful regen rate, however the amount of damage dealt in a single hit is tremendous enough to frequently one-hit things. For the most part i use a 2h Cleaver instead of my Powerhammer against things with low kinetic resist since its faster by a decent margin and its ham costs are extremely light.

With my weapons a Hit2 for each costed the following:

VK: 82 Action and health/mind 26/21

Bare Fist: 24 action and 5/5

Stun Baton: 79 Action and health/mind 11/37

Power Hammer: 99 health and action/mind 28/9

2h Cleaver: 76 Action and health/mind 26/12

I have 800/400/400, 800/500/400, 800/600/700 as my Stats, so this no doubt plays a role. I believe it to be bad practice to test something while under the influence of anything that alters your stats, and I had a limited number of targets to practice on to get damage results. I dont know if anyone has the formula that determines special attack cost, but this is the data I have. I can do damage comparisions later if anyone has a good suggestion for what to attack that will live long enough to not eat me alive.

i want to touch on this for a sec...

i started this itallic writing here this was a direct answer to one of my posts on that particular thread:

this over power crap is silly... so basicly i am to believe that as a novice tka with a pair of vk's currently my servers best is like 180 damage sliced.. i can hit somewhere in the 300's per successful blow right? hmmm?

It is stacking the damage bonus on top of this that makes it very powerful.

A good sliced VK isn't a 50-190 damage weapon. It is more like 300-440 damage weapon with very low HAM's and very fast speed.

StGabe

ok with his own answer im going to show you how full of crap and how biased this dood is

I dropped pistoleer and smuggler dirty fighting today because i wanted to go pure melee so i started the long grind

he wants to complain about a 300 damage normal hit from a tka novice?

how about the 1000 damage normal hit i did at 2 handed 2 with a curved 2 handed sword

these are the stats 90-220 speed 2.5

i hit apprentice heavyswordsman in 3 hours killing nothing but rogue banthas and skyks outside of espa usually taking 1-3 hits to down either of these red creatures the lowest damage i did with this sword was 200 and that was on a lair

i **edit** near beat a tka master in espa cantina with that same sword, in the end it was the uahit3 spam that got me his action and health were slivered to nothing he wasnt wearing armor and we were both PB'ed

this correspondant needs to really look at his own profession before he starts tootin horns and beatin drums on another profession when clearly as a tka master im outdamaged by a basic profession
