I'm talking about the less broad genre of computer game RPGs. You can talk about DnD or whatever you played back in the 70s-80s, but thats kind of a red herring here.

Once again, you show your ignorance. I can't believe anyone here is taking you seriously. Computer RPG's have also been around for about 20 years, and they were almost all based around a party of characters, too. You had your Ultima, your Wizardry, your Bard's Tale... these were ALL around long before your Legends of Zelda.

The point is, most of the FANTASY RPG's revolved around a party of characters, each of whom contributed something to the whole. Star Wars Galaxies is NOT that type of game. Given it's PvP content, every character should have a relatively equal chance to compete. They SHOULD be balanced. Teras Kasi is NOT balanced. They are gimped; especially when it comes to PvP. A lot of the posts rationalizing the changes are based on outdated thinking, and they arerelegating our profession to second-class citizens.

Go ahead and think that its social and multiplayer when you are playing FF or Dragon warrior in a party. I might just think you have split personalitys, but either way you slice it your not interacting socially with ANYONE but yourself. Some might call that masterbation. I'm the ignorant one? You are expecting to be a friggen god and be complete out of balance with all but 5% of the content of this game trivial. Look in the mirror before you call someone ignorant.

Well, read it and weep =( They aren't changing our knockdown costs, holo seemed pretty firm there. He also stated in his 'vision' type 5 point statement about folks finding workarounds faster than he can nerf them.

Guess what's getting nerfed next patch, amongst a *lot* of other things.

Please don't ask for specific message references, I am tiredfrom reading too many postsin the last hour- 7 pages of responses to holo's new nerf additions in this forum, and 7-8 more pages about his 5 point vision statement. His responses make it all too apparent that the KD nerf is here to stay, and any workarounds will also be nerfed.

TK today - other classes tomorrow. It's the dev's game. Some will like it post-nerfs, some won't. With the Star Wars name it's hard to make a flop. I doubt even they can manage to tank this game.

At least Holo's 5 pointer alluded to the fact that they are going on a nerf fest for all classes. We just got the visit from the nerf fairy first, is all.

Jack when I started playing the game was fun, it still has lots of fun features. No stupid corpse runs, no overpowered npc's. But with that patch they showed they want to turn this completely into everquest where it takes forever to kill anything and killing anything requires a lot of people.

I left EQ because it was boring. Noone likes a leveling treadmill. Now you are probably low level yet, but once you get up there you get to notice that anything that gives decent exp is just too hard. Dont tell me to grow balls and fight hard, I like to enjoy the game and have it easy, not suffer through this like it's a second job.

You want a challenge? Go find a real 40 hour a week work and then come home and tell me "oh its too easy make it harder"... as*hole. =P

Yeah i hear ya. Killing those nyms for 3-4k xp is real low level stuff, hard too with the way they lie on the ground while you beat them.

Tka is not hard atm, we've just been taken down a notch and have recieved an unfair kd cost compared to other classes. Not the end of the world. As for you last suggestion, why would I want to work a 'real' job for 40 hours a week when I can do about half that at around $90p/h running my own business? Please refer to my opening statement.

Pyradius wrote:

Like the TK Master said above, it's not really an issue with fighting things solo, it's the friggin adds. There is some high level content where adds are unavoidable and their friggin knockdown resists were already through the roof. In these encounters we are pretty much SOL. There is no way we can tank and control these high level resistant mobs with knockdown.

As we speak I just killed a Mauler Master, which is a red con "non-creature" with an armor of "light". It was a tough fight, and one mistake could be fatal. I don't have a problem with that per se. I can't speak for everyone else, but the way I played my character was as a big game hunter. I loved bringing Endorian Wooly Hides to the vendors. This change has pretty much crippled my ability to hunt high level creatures. The impact on non-creatures is smaller because they are more affected by dizzy + knockdown.

Well, you might say I could just try and find like-minded people who want to hunt for hides. Perhaps this is what the developers intended. The problem is whenever you take THAT much power away from a class you should at least offer a damned explanation. Flat out tell us, "You were playing the game in God Mode, and we put a stop to it".

There were already benefits to grouping. You could kill faster, and by that token earn more overall xp / loot / resources. I was content to take my slower pace, but still have a viable way of contributing to the economy. It was FUN! Now I have to look for a group, which due to my play-times can be very difficult. I thought this game was supposed to be different than EQ. My char is already gated on Unarmed XP (900,000) and has almost 250,000 excess combat xp. Not much point in XP hunting, like you said - but I felt I filled a purpose in the role I chose.

The fact is that Knockdown is an extremely powerful ability that is essential in the high-end npc game. A blanket HAM increase was fine for the lower level stuff, but imho has damaged a lot of the high end content.

Pyradius I agree with a lot of what your saying here. But I do believe you are meant to be dependant on other people to a degree in this game. Things like SCS and limited professions you can master are meant to encourage you to interact with other people to accomplish your goals.

Grimror wrote:
Pyradius, nice post, and I agree with the sentiments. Taking them further, what we really need to be trying to get the devs to do is make us worthy tanks. Bringing back KD to even old pre nerf levels will not do that, and all melee will still suffer from lack of utility in high end content ( think Kimos, darkjedi etchere ). Fact of the matter is, we as melee are going to be the only ones that need to fight at close range in these encounters, and the game design as is just isnt sufficient for that kind of stuff, even if KD was unerfed. You would still be dead in one hit and pretty much useless.

This is a bit of a difficult issue. I mean how can we realisticly give melee a signifigant place in these type of encounters. Youcan't justwalk up to a kimo and start punching it in the foot and expect to live long. And I think we can all get a good mental picture of what trying to punch a dark jedi in the face would achieve.

Ranged people aren't going to have anymore luck without a very large group. As I've said before, it's not much, but lunge can be very useful to a group in this situation. I think we need to accept there are some mobs out there in the galaxy that hit too hard to stand within their attack range.

A lot of people are carrying on like we're the red headed step-children of the of the galaxy and the devs just want to beat us with a stick till we pick up a pistol. Not everything is a conspiracy, it's still early days and there's a lot of balancing to go yet.

If you can stick it out in the meantime and make calm, constructive posts about changes you feel we need I'm confident you'll find a lot of fun still to be had with tka's. If not, there's no shortage of pistols for sale out there.

A pistoleer/smuggler, with a full reportoire of ranged attack abilities (basic ranged pistol mods, accuracy mods, etc.), melee abilities ('pistol whip'),knockdown abilities ('pistol whip', 'low blow'),as well as massive damage moves ('last ditch'), special defenses ('feign death') and the innate ability to 'kite' can just about solo anything in the entire game (if you don't include jedi and force-sensitive creatures).Just how is this character meant togroup and be dependent on others? If TKA's aremeant to group all the time, then why not otherprofessions? How many Creature Handler/Riflemen really need to group? How many Bounty Hunters really needanentire group to help themfightcommon mobs? TKA may be dependent on groups (at this point), but I really don't see that same logic applying to all combat professions, across the board.

I said those thing were meant to encourage interaction, not that you had to group to kill common mobs. I still solo most of the time. By being dependant on other people I was refering more to getting weapons, houses, well made stims etc. And for fighting very high end mobs. You just can't expect to do everything in this game solo, but you can do a lot of it that way.

Some of you got to stop smoking. Whoever says this game is a leveling treadmill is wrong. It can be if you choose that path. But you can do lots of other things. I am very demanding toward games, every time I log on I want to feel like it made a difference on my character (yes even 5 minutes lol, but I know thats pushing it). But when things are too hard and too long, it doesnt feel that way for sure.

It wasnt a treadmill for me until I got nerfed to TKW from TKA. (TKW = Teras Kassi Woosie, TKA - tk artist).

Yes, but Pyradius' initial post clearly states that this is not possible as a TKA. (A post that I totally agree with,by the way.) In addition, nearly all other combat professions--especially the ranged combat professions--can solo five times more efficiently than a TKA. Which brings us right back to what Pyradius was saying in the first place. Why nerf TKA so serverely, but allow other professions to stay more or less 'godlike' and unaffected? It's hardly fair, in my opinion.

Thanks for proving my point. That post was a nightmare of spelling and grammar, and it made no logical sense whatsoever. What the heck were you trying to say?

You're talking about "bands of small characters" but it's still only one person controlling them, thus no social interaction. If you don't see it that way, thats you're problem, but in the real world, they didn't call final fantasy, ultima, bards tale, et al socially interacting games because you didnt play them with thousands of other rpers, let alone one other rper. Furthermore, you're on the internet, I'm sure you'll get over my spelling/grammar when you actually have a something worthwhile to say instead of assuming you know what the devs intended this game to be (i.e. they didnt intend it to be the solo fest it is now, and things like nerfing KD, reguardless of how off the beaten path it is go inline with that notion).

"Whoever says this game is a leveling treadmill is wrong. It can be if you choose that path."

This is a contradiction if ever I saw one before...first you say I'm wrong then you say it can be.

Reguardless, you're saying it wasn't a treadmill before, but now it is eh? Before it was just a treadmill on speed 5 and now its on 8.3. Either way you look at it all you did was log in and go xp to improve your character. That's what those in the industry generally call a treadmill. The game does its job if it makes the player feel like its more then that but when it boils down it, its just a treadmill.
