Thread: A RL Martial Arts Master's Opinion On TKA

How sad. Kasamatsu writes a well thought out post based on real life experiences, not insulting to anyone personally, and all the high school kiddies flame him saying that he's full of sh*t. And what do they base their criticism on? Their book report on gunfights? The 1337 knowledge that they gathered from playing Metal Gear on their ps2?

Gimme a break.

ROFL @ POOPSMCCHICKEN

First off - you got a stupid name.

Second, people like the original poster ARE retards, see they exist in a world of fantasy. Sucks but it is true. Eventually they meet even dumber people than them or people who are 'just as dumb'. Their ideas spread and people get hurt.

We are talking about bullets here. Products that can and WILL put a devastating hole in your 'invincible' body. Products that are exponentially faster than your reflexes. Products that require very little to learn to use.

Third he speaks as if he knows any thing. If you read the original posters 1st and then 2nd points, and are nto infected with the dreaded fantasy disease, you would realize hes full of **edit**. Especially if you have had any sort of combat training at all.

Moving slower in armor? Please. Soldiers wear armor ALL THE TIME. Not just 1 day on a weekend like the fatties in the reserves or the guys like Officer IronMaiden eating donuts in the coffee shops - but ALL THE TIME. FOR MONTHS ON END.

Anyone who wears such things for so long can close a good distance on you in record time, just ask anyone with any sort of training whatsoever.

ALL FIGHTS ARE NOT FAUGHT AT SEVEN FEET

I agree with the original poster. A lot of people think that 7 feet is a great distance to cover. Not many people have long reach. I can cover 3'6" with my arm length alone. Had I trained as young as I would have this situation would probably not phase me as I would only have to dodge the first shot. 2 feet is a small hop or quick shuffle. All I'd have to do is surprise you and that alone can do you in.

You're right, if you're a TKA in PvP, you're fighting at 64m.

Interesting... if you hit Submit Post, then try and edit your message... everytime you write something knew, it posts that.

A few thoughts for the various posters in this thread. Most of the people posting about RL martial arts situations are correct. They train their bodies and minds as their weapons of choice. I actually took about a year of martial arts and in that time, I was trained in many techniques that included being able to disarm my opponent. Unfortunately in this game, Teras Kasi, the equivalent of RL martial artists, do not have that ability while certain ranged classes do. If I bring a "knife to a gun fight" you can most certainly bet the first thing I want to do is get rid of the gun. Give us the ability to disarm our ranged opponents.

Another point I would like to add to. Yes, you have your soldiers who train and practice on a daily basis with their combat armor and weapons, and yes they are able to perform quite well with all that gear on. However, when comparing that soldier with all his gear, to a martial artist, who is wearing just the clothes on his back, I would take the martial artist everyday of the week in any type of foot race vs the soldier. I don't care how good the soldier is, that extra gear is going to slow him down vs an equivalent level martial artist who does not have that gear. If you think differently, I will give you 50 to 1 odds, with the minimum bet being $10,000.

As far as guns go, yes they are dangerous. Yes they are lethal in the hands of anyone, moreso in the hands of an expert. However I challenge you to find an expert in any firearm, who is able to run fullout away from their intended target, with their gun under their arm or over their shoulder, and hit with any degree of accuracy without tripping and falling or running into on obstacle. I also challenge you to find me a gun expert who is able to pistolwhip his target from 8m (24 feet), the only way I am hitting you with the butt of a pistol from that far, is if I throw it at you and get lucky.

For those of you who disagree with me, please prove me wrong.

Well let me respond to a couple.

All my examples are with a pistol/ handgun type firearm in mind.

Shotgun... that's going to probably reduce my safe range to about 4 feet. However a shotgun is much more cumbersome and MUCH MUCH MUCH easier to deal withwhen I do get to you.

Yes, someone with experience in firearms will be aiming for center mass. They probably also will not be holding their weapon straight out in front of them as well. And with someone highly trained like the Law Enforcement Officers that I work with, the first time they try to 'shoot' me I can close about 7 feet. After they've tried it a few times they learn and adapt and my range falls to about4 feet.

"Do I mean that a TKA should be toast at a range of more than 2M?

If the gunman is running away and shooting over his shoulder no, you should be able to hit nothing more a Fambaa doing this. If the gunman is standing still or kneeling at a distance of 5 meters with no other distractions, yes, I'd say that the TKA should be in trouble

The color of your belt means nothing, and a lot of the guys on your local SWAT team have studied Martial Arts/ defensive tactics enough to either have an 'official' black belt, or be the equivilant of one.

If you have a question or comment for me please feel free to post, I won't bite your head off.

TKM for Life.

- I support keeping & balancing the current combat system You can too

Whoever said "Don't bring a knife to a gunfight" was right; it wouldn't be fair. I can kick your butt without the knife.
