The only reason I personally def. stack is because I want to play a pure melee in this game period. I don't stack to be uber, I stack because it fits in line with the way I see my character in swg and is pretty much the only effective way I can play out this role. I rarely if ever pvp, and had actually started going down the def. stacker route well before it even became fotm. I can indeed see how its broken, and am eager to see how CB fixes this.
It will be nice to see it fixed... I see nothing wrong with your reason to stack.
I made a defense stacked character once just to see what it was like. No one could land a single state on me. I thought combat was boring like that.It was almost like I was immune to everything. I also mostly do PvE... occasionally PvP when I'm bored.
I'm glad you think Defense stacking is boring, but it doesn't make you invincible. Just means if you're jumped by Melee, they have to work harder to take you down. I'm a tank. Pure damage soaker, I take hits so others don't have too. They take away my stack, they're destroying dabbling, my character and how I play, and with the rise of Jeedai..I quit. /sigh
I'm ranting don't mind my hostility,

"JustG has said that type of dabbling was never intended and is broken."
Either he's lying, or what he said was taken a bit out of context or misunderstood. If dabbling wasn't intended we'd have classes like Everquest and when you made a medic, you stayed a medic forever.
I'm a stacker too but not to be "uber". I was a stacker before people even talked about it.
I started out as TKA/CH but after awhile I didn't like CH. So I dropped it and looked at other professions. I noticed that Pistoleer gave good defenses so I went after that. Then I noticed that I had the prerequisites for Smuggler. I liked Smuggler so much I almost mastered it (I got through most of Underworld, I mastered Slicing and almost mastered Dirty Fighting) but I got tired of it (and I didn't like Dirty Fighting specials).
So then I went with Fencer because I liked the defenses. This was before everyone started going Fencer.
The whole point of my template is to become the best TKM I can. I took professions that directly contribute to my fighting unarmed. But it doesn't make me invincible, in fact I suffer in many ways. I have no scout skills, no medic skills, no really strong ranged skills (though I'm ok with a pistol), I'm very specialized as a TKM.
Defense stackers get a bad rap but really, you sacrifice many things when you spend those skill points.

I agree with a lot of your post. You spend those skill points for those extra defenses, it's one of the sacrifices. I think JustG was honest and probably correct. I don't think they actually expected players to go hardcore and stack defenses until they broke the equation.
So instead of having a melee defense that covers everything. Have a two-handed weapon melee defense. Or a one-handed weapon dodge instead of a dodge skill mod that covers pistols and 1h weapons giving the ability to stack it to an insane level.

That's why they added caps to certain skills. I don't see what the big deal is with stacking. Don't dwell on a problem you already fixed.

The problem clearly isn't fixed. There are still issues that remains or they wouldn't be doing a combat balance and combat revamp.

I think discussions like this is good for the community. You get a good feel of what folks think about certain things and it allows our correspondent to see how we feel...
You are completely right though...dabbling is intended, our skill system clearly allows it.

Can we get back to my suggestion of 50% buffs to our secondaries at Master?
My mind 1100
PB = 550 to main stats
My suggestion = 225 to the secondaries.
Nice perc..but not over powered.

Really sounds like a nice idea to me.
It's not too much like you said, but it's something that would make a difference.

A nice idea, and a nice benefit for those that go the extra mile and achieve master, without nerfing those that dabble.
Well Done! ![]()

Skill point system is supposed for allow for dabbling. If you want to be a specialist, then you can be one. I you want to be a generalist, then you can dabble in as many professions as you have skill points for to take advantage of the skills they offer. What's the big deal?

That is a great idea. When and if I do hunt without buffs, I am ALWAYS missing the enchanced secondaries. Heck, I could hunt with buffs to secondaries only just fine as long as I had armor on.
