Hello!

I practised shaolin gongfu for a bit before I became a computer gamer with no life, and it seems TKM is loosely based around Chinese martial arts. Most of the moves seem to be based on animals in the SWG universe, as most gongfu moves are based on animals in the real world egTiger, Scorpion, etc. In SWG we get moves like Spitting Rawl etc. Iwould like to feel as if my char is a real martial artist, with realistic skills. I also would like Unarmed to MEAN unarmed ie no weapon at all. I like the restraint Idea a lot and think it would be a good step towards creating a really good prof! Taiji gongfu uses a LOT of counterattacking moves, dislocation of bones etc, as do most other martial arts to varying degrees and this would reflect that well. A suggestion of my own would be to have aREALLY nasty counterattack. Again, using the movement of your opponent, controlling his centre of gravity and joints are very important things to learn so TKM counterattacks should be a lot more powerfull!

That's my opinion on the matter! I guess if it gets really silly I can always get off my fat arse and start training again

Let's expound on this idea a little. I also am a martial artist in real life. I have studied aikido for 10 years, and studied judo for 5 years prior to that. Here is the first question that we must answer: What is a TKA? Is he supposed to be the supreme martial artist in the game, and what does that mean?

From kempo, aikido, and judo, we are taught to use nothing but our bodies to compromise our opponent;be it through punches, kicks, grappling techniques, pressure points, throws, whatever have you. But as many have mentioned earlier in this thread, there are several martial arts that teach use of weapons (such as the staff, sword, and dagger). So is reality being correctly reflected by the game in the fact that we have been limited to just kinetic damage? I think the answer to this question is clearly no.

So as it stands now,a TKA isa suped upBoxerthat can heal his wounds through meditation. Yes we are faster when compared to most of the other combat professions in the game, but that is a poor reflection on reality. We should be able to use swords, staffs, and daggers. We should be able to throw and grapple with our opponents. Butitalso makes sensethat we shouldNOT be able to attain the level of ability that THESE actual combat professions reach if we choose to study the sword, or the staff. A TKA should NOT be able to use a sword nearly as well as a Master Swordsman or a staff as well as a Pikeman. But I can gurantee that in real life, a martial artist has at least a intermediate level of knowledge in ALL melee weapons.

Now, if the idea is to make the TKA the master of UNARMED combat, then we need to take into account all UNARMED combat. Retraint/grappling/pressure points are all good ideas. If we can accurately represent this through stun and retraint, then let's go with it. But remember, the character is not to be a god. At best, we should be able to handle 2-3 mobs at once. But even in real life, after about this, even we get overwhelmed. And only the masters should really be able to "SHINE."

Personally!

(correct me if i'm wrong).

i agree with above posts about a serious consideration about our new damage type.

If we get stun, great.

if we get restraint, awesome.

But, personally.

I would like blast.

Kinda like Ti-chi (spelling error. please excuse my ignorance in correct spelling)

Or those movies i seen with Jei Li where he could use his mind and fist and push a wall of "air" at someone.

i think that would be so great.

Not many classes (again, claiming ignorance here to other classes that have blast) have blast damage. the one i can think of is Commando.

it wouldnt be too uber, (to have everyone around us screaming nerf), make it a master TK ONLY ability. or a new cert at master.

(to keep the noob kiddies from getting TKN and claiming to be uber l33t).

After all, not a lot is known about the Teras Kasi people (look in SW lore, teras kasi were a people, not just a teaching)

We are the keeper of the Jedi, to keep them in line, in check per say.

When the Teras kasi world was destroyed, and our ancestors started focusing on mind over body, some mystic skills should have came out sooner or later. (think of shaloin monks!).

That's my 2 cents.

Blast damage. Mabey in the form of some gloves. (i can see it now if gloves got implemented. there would be a bug where you could equip gloves and a VK. mark my words.).

so while stun, and restraint would be all good. I will cast my vote for blast.

I don't think we should get that many new weapons. First of all, we are UNARMED, so we shouldn't really have vibroknucklers in the first place.

However, if since vibroknucklers are already in, you might as well add a few new cool looking ones so there is a little diversity.

Stun and restraint are all good ideas. i think that what tk's need more is a counterattack or standard attack that will delay the target, like intimidate, and also push them back. stun them for a few seconds, and allow you to get in closer.

another item that would be good to use would be some sort of ranged or melee weapon. i.e bo staff, nunchucks, stars, sai. if you're going ot base a proffesion off a martial art, at least allow the use of the weapons that are actually used.

here's some possibilites..

throwing stars/knives. - poison use, low damage

sai - more of a defensive weapon, maybe add to melee defense

nunchucks - these would work great for stun attacks!

that's just my thoughts...

Just a few Ideas:

/pindown - U hold your opponent down for limited amount of time, while your opponents Action bar reduces

/mindblow- a bit like mindshot on pistoleer

I'd also like to see new weapons like numchaku (with added stun performance), or a Sai or even a Blow Gun, with Poison or Disease darts and maybe at Master level a boost to running speed. Always difficult to chase the pistoleer or rifleman around, while they are taking pop shots at your mind pool.

I dont ask for much...hehehe

I'm new to TKA and I didn't read thru this entire post. So if I'm repeating some other ideas listed I apologize before hand.

Two TKA weapons I think would work are found in WarHammer 40k. They are the Power Glove and the Lightning Claws.

For those that don't know WH 40k here isa brief description.

The PowerGlove is a weapon that fits entirely over one hand. It has a self contained energy pack that releases that energy upon contact. Very much like what a Power Hammer does. Not sure what damage type you would use. Energy or Blast would make the most sense.

The second is the Lightning Claws. They are claws attached to the back ofboth hands that have an electrical field. Damage type would be Electical of course.

Some could argue that the Lighting Claws may belong in one of the other melee professions. However I'm including it here since it is attached to the back of the hand and in that way is not really different than the Power Glove or VK.

as a long time master tka i highly agree with adding a new damage type. most of the post here have been pretty good and for the most part, well thought out. Stun, restraint, blast any of these could help. One possible addition, could bethe possibility of a thrown projectile weapon, something like a throwing star but maybe a little more updated to the star wars universe. They could be sold in packs of 10, 20,30. With a variety of types of projectiles there couldbe many damage and effecttypes. the best ones could beused only betkm's. by doing thisour maindamege type would remain kinetic, but wewould have the ability to purchase and use these projectiles to gain other damages types and effects.just a passing thought.

Another possibility. Instead of getting a new weapon with a new damage type.

Why not get a new skill that does a specific damage type. It would have to be used completely unarmed (no VK) of course. But it has been mentioned to add Restraint. Why not? Have a move or two such as ChokeHold or something like that. It would do Restraint damage and maybe cause Dizzy.

You could add a couple grapple moves all with Restraint. Just make them skills instead of weapons though.
