Before release I had the idea that katas could be performed that would do well in helping you level to get your speed up and would have some kind of affect on your flexibility which would make dodges and counterattacks possible more often.

Honestly being able to heal battle fatigue would be great in my opinion. Being on Chilastra, the number of afk entertainers is astounding. Ryutek can attest to that. With so many just really not caring about the entertainer profession not many tip now and that includes me. I actually hate going into a cantina now because there are way too many lifeless automatons there macroing nothing that really means anything anyway.

Just to add...a kata as a basic emote like the /dance command is so ugly to me I wouldn't want it if was put in. The /dance command is rarely used and it only makes you look foolish. I just think equating a kata with the /dance command just diminishes any kind of cool factor or respect it could bring. The meditation emote looks very nice and for roleplaying purposed I only perform it in private or if I'm around other people and need to heal then I use it.

Very true about the AFKers. I only tip someone if they speak to me when I enter anymore.

I disagree on healing BF though. We already get the ability to heal wounds, I don't want to see something taken away from a purely social-driven profession. However, possibly using the kata to heal wounds as an alternative to Meditation would be ok for me, that way we are not gaining a new skill that eliminates our need to interact with someone, but does allow us an opportunity to have katas implemented.

I did like a poster's idea about "buffing" defense vs. states, but I fear that may be overbalancing.

Actually, I had a great idea about what a kata could actually do for a melee prof.

Since katas can also help you center your mind on a task at hand, what if doing a kata boosted your Center of Being somehow, either raised its bonus, or lengthened its duration, or both. You would have to /kata for X minutes for this bonus to take place, and it would only last for Y minutes. It would give you something to do aside from meditate in between battles.

heal BF? no. leave that to the entertainers.

boost stats? hell yes.

look cool? it better. as a real martial artist (well, no longer actively one) i've done and seen a lot of kata and they deserve to look cool in SWG. it would definitely add to RPing a martial artist character.

Here's a thought. Why not just change the meditation from kneeling and staring at the ground to a kata animation. That way we get a kata and no one gets mad that it is some new skill to make the TKMs more uber. After all a kata is just an active form of meditation anyway.

No, I still like using the kneeling posture as well. It offers a great opportunity to roleplay as is, adding the ability for the kata to do the same thing would be fine by me (offering a choice between the two based on circumstances) or a possible other ability...

I like the idea of having a kata or group of katas available to Master Teras Kasi Artists. I think they should be some sort of cool animation that works similar to the /dance command. It would be something fun to add to the game.

I dont really care for the idea of them giving us any sort of boost to stats or healing ability. We already have enough peeps hating us because we can heal our own wounds, bleeds, poison, and disease as well as give ourselves a mini buff with power boost. The last thing we need is the entertainers hating us too.

Thanks,

dont add dances to TKA... the day they do that, the day I surrender the entire TKA profession... I agree TKAs should be able to heal BF, what about meditation? think about it, BF is basically stress you get from constant battling, meditation clears your mind and body.... so why doesnt it remove this stress?

Ok then maybe you just do a kata when you PB or something.

Because one of the main points of a MMO version of an rpg is playing WITH other people. That means classes have to depend on each other. TKMs are already the MOST independent class, and this is reflected by its popularity. They heal wounds, buff, have HAM-specific hits, have good defenses, cause multiple states such as knockdown and dizzy... no other profession comes CLOSE.

When the hologrind endsafter pub 10there will be 10 times fewer entertainers than now.

They will get 10 times more entertainer healing xp than now.

I simply hate the fact that a master martial artist needs to go to a strip joint to be ready for his next fight!

I say strip joint cause I only watch the exotic dances so I can get healed faster... the ones who perform it are closer to master dancer. Oh and I never listen to musicians, the tunes only play for 2 measures and don't even loop right!!!
