Thread: Devs answers to all TKA PROBS
Wow that dev post definatly leaves a real bad taste in my mouth. Why even have the **edit**ing class in here if they dont plan on making it the least bit viable for combat??? I bet all these non working professions make for decent marketing(lots of options is always a selling point)but unfortunatly it doesnt make for a very good playing experience.
What I see is when a game is advertised like SWG was. They list things that are attractable to the player base. Housing, Vendors, Mounts, etc. Another thing that attracts this game is the well publicized number of professions.
But if the friggin lead designer comes right out and says, well Melee was in general just thrown in as an afterthought so people can play that class... thats downright BULLLLCRAP.
SWG ads, yes we got a ton of professions but really, only 5 of them are actually what we plan on concentrating on, Have a NICE DAY.
I copied this cr*p post to every Melee board. We need to bump and submit this thread and be heard.
Hey Raph, if you don't plan on doing anything with melee, and it was basically an afterthought according to you, why bother with us having a correspondent?
But It's our job to keep fighting. Nothing will ever change if we don't say anything. If we keep pushing and pushing, I really think we can get things done.
I've gotten word that we should hear some news this week. I don't have any details however, but trust me, you all will be the first to hear.
Please make your voice heard by keeping this thread alive:

Who knows, maybe we'll get an official response regarding TKAs? ![]()
I made the comment in a similar thread on the main board that I played a Martial Artist in AO for 2 years, and melee was NEVER completely balanced with ranged combat, especially one-on-one. But when you think about it, why should it be? If there was a way to balance it, the Armed Forces of the world would still have battalions of pikemen in addition to long range artillery
Still, there are some serious things they could do to redress the situation and at least make us viable in PvP groups as one leg of a combat equation.
* Give us thrown devices, like Scout traps, that lower our target's run speed temporarily.
* Let us keep Knockdown while they nerf Ranged Knockdown -- if you're hit upside the head by a pair of brass knuckles, are you going to stay down longer than if you're winged by a bolt of charged energy? Probably.
* Un-nerf Stun and tweak Intimidate so we have some way of compensating for our short range.
Give us all that and I think TKs would be much more viable, especially in PvP situations. And it'd be nice if I didn't have to chase that half-dead mob clear across the zone all the time.
Ok, I'm a TKA... but I have to conceed a point on behalf of the ranged characters.
Given that this is NOT the matrix and you are NOT Jedi, let's paint a little scenario. There is a guy with brass knuckles... And another guy withaglock. They fight: who wins?

Alright I have to point something out. This is a game. A MMORPG to be exact. In any RPG with a class or profession based system, ALL the professions have to be balanced.
In real life, sure a gun would probably win a fight. But then again, in real life, once you die you're not going to clone and come back for more...
Point is, don't compare it to real life when it isn't. It is a game. Every profession needs to be balanced against every other profession. Until even the vaguest sense of balance is acheived, people are going to keep complaining, and rightly so. Melee should have the same chance against a ranged user as a ranged user has against melee, bottom line.
Well, i currently have unarmed 4, as i have spent all my time to reach master armorsmith(finally got it
)....Anyhow I remember in beta3 when TK was the ****. If a ranged gets a drop on a tk, they are gonna go down, of course, but today i went head to head with someone with pistol4. I was dead, and he had half his health after the fight.....soon, after everyone is done leveling, i expect the pvp to take off.....now how is a melee going to compete with a ranged combat.......they arent. In eq, it was like that until the uber armor came into the game, and a melee could take a caster any day of the week.......however all professions in this game can wear the same gear......so what does advantage does the melee have...none....the last one to get exp, and the first one to die. And in pvp, useless.
But I said i'd give it a try, and i figured there would be a jump between unarmed 4 and novice tk...but after reading this forum ive changed my mind real quick....goodbye melee.
Sinda if battalions of the world could have 1,000,000 Mr. Miyagis or 1,000,000 Cains from Kung-Fu, then THEY WOULD. It would be "GOOD GAME PWNED" to whoever fought that army with whatever weapon other than a nuke.
Sooo.. I win you lose. K thx no re.
