Thread: TKM Tanking v. Jedi Tanking

Everyone here who said that TKA damage is not a problem... they are correct. But those who said that not everything should be tankable by a non jedi are wrong. EVERYTHING must be tankable.... i dont care if it can never be defeated by one person (Give it so much health that i wear out of stim ds, mind and action, before i see its health drop a Quarter!!!!)... one person or two or even three must be able to hold all its damage. Otherwise there is no point to having a TKA in your group. There should be no creature that only a jedi can beat.

Btw for all of you:

I do have swords in my template: Tkm/Msw/Doc 4/0/0/0

But there is no way I can tank, even with Bacta infusion, Cob and Sword Flurry a DJK, DJM, Avkav (Bottom NCP at Nightsister Cave near Stronghold, May be Tankable, I suspect it can be, I have just not gotten the foods to do it yet), Krayt Dragon Ancient.

And remember "Tanking" does not mean soloable, only that a person can absorb its damage and hold its aggro while someone else pounds on it from a distance.

I think the problem with discussions like this is that people feel tanking means soloing or going through content, without a healer, like the poster above stated. There isn't a MMORG that I have played that allows the main tanking class (warrior, soldier, enforcer, TKM, or whatever) to take on the high end content of the game without having multiple, fully templated or levelled or with their best buyable / questable spells, healers to support along with damage dealers, offtanks, and some support classes. SWG should not be any different.

When I say tanking... I dont mean soloable (I stated this earlier), what i mean is that you are able to hold it for lets say, 30 seconds or 60 seconds. Just enough time that your group could switch in another tank.

But these problems seem to be absolved as they lowered the level of the DJM it only hits for about 4399 with using innate armor and COB. Due to this i believe it could be tanked with 1, 2 or 3 supporting docs.

Actually I think your original post got muffled some as the thread steered it's own course. One of the problems I have found now that docs and such can heal is the max hps a toon can have. An extremely defensive toon of say, TKM & MPike, has the same hps as any other CL80 toon. With Mdoc buffs and PB (no food), I cap out at 3910 hps. With food I can push 5k for a short time, but truely that is barely enough for ultra-high end content. Even if you have 2-3 docs healing, if anyone gets lag, your main tank is down and you have to move to a secondary tank. I don't see rotating incapacitation on 3 tanks as a sensible option for high end content. I do not disagree that there needs to be some tweaking to tanks to make them viable rather than root, stun, snare, mez, heal and repeat.

I am still learning to tank properly (one of my biggest issues is keeping aggro in a fight) but usually I can handle near anything with proper support. Last night, I took on a CL100 and tanked him without an issue while my groupies fired at him and tried to keep me healed. The fight lasted less than a minute and I was only down to 3/4 health which I healed with Bacta Shot.

It is possible to get higher HP for brief times (10-15 minutes) using a combination of spice, foods, drinks, powerboost, doc buff, and health crystal. I managed to hit 7,236 last night for around 10 minutes with all that.... and still had room for synthsteak & pikata pie. Even without the crystal, I can hit around 4,400 - 5,200 depending on the ingredients and the situation.

I have Jedi gape-jawed at my ability to tank with TKM/MBrawler/MDoctor.

The most humorous moment was when a Jedi told me he should be the tank because he was a Jedi Master Defender, and then once we got to the Pikets, I was taking significantly less damage than he was.

It is true with my TKm/Master Swordsman/Doc 4000 i tanked a level 100 npc easily and crushed him with my offense, with little need for heals, the funny thing was the jedi were afraid to touch him hehe I love TKM

We shouldn't have to! To see so many TKAs complacent with "getting swords" is sickening and is the very reason nothing will ever be done about our lack of offense. We should be competent at dishing out some damage as a stand alone profession.

Oh, you want the "I Win" button? Look elsewhere.

TKA - as it is, is über at taking damage. Stop crying about its damage output or our defence will probably be nerfed when the devs understand just how POTENT it really is. Who cares about damage when you can tank CL846 (indefinitely with 4xxx Doc or CM).

The damage output is FINE for a TANK - if you wanna deal damage, look elsewhere --- and that's why people are "complacent" with the TKA/Sword combo.

a DJK, DJM,

It's not impossible to tank them as non-jedi if you receive enough healage (and yes, the amount of healage you need to get is silly here, but that doesn't make it impossible).

Avkav (Bottom NCP at Nightsister Cave near Stronghold, May be Tankable, I suspect it can be, I have just not gotten the foods to do it yet)

I tanked Axkva without any food for a longer period of time with only receiving a bacta toss every now and then, I did tank her while the groups other tank tanked her adds (the 5 protectors she spawns when she gets aggroed) and the other groupmembers killed those adds. Axkva is hardly a problem to tank with improved cob up. Pre-publish 19 btw, so not as good heals as we have now.

Healing from a single cm was all I needed here (pre-publish 19 again).

You forgot "and while a healer is keeping the tank up".

Core problem of all the "I cannot tank this, cannot hold aggro vs. that" stuff on the forums is: The game has changed a lot and way too many players have spent only a little / no thought in adapting to those changes.
