Thread: Gotta love this
Wow, I really like this thread.
It's a great way to let off steam and see that we are not alone in our tribulations. Thankfully mine have been rare and minor. Most often, I get brand new characters that want a complete outfit, but only have the starting 250 credits. Depending on the way they ask and treat me, I'll be very forgiving of their ignorance, even making them low-end stuff at a loss. I simply won't tolerate people making demands or harrasing me though. I get enough of that in real life to bother with it in my game-time.
I had one woman ask me today for an entirely new outfit. She was running in the streets completely naked (well, underwear.) She said she wanted something sexy. Well what can you do. I was out of crates, but was able to make her a dress blouse in pink. As I was wearing a pink skirt I offered her that too. Unfortunately she did not seem to realize the generosity being provided and happily ran off to the cantina to jiggle and dance.
It's not that I needed to make a sale, or even worried about the loss of money on the sale, but I wish it was possible for players to understand the value of the goods we provide. From the clothes we make to the factories and PA halls of the hard working architects. Players rarely understand the true value of items until hit with the bill. For us, our prices tend to be high in comparison to others. On my server, the architects charge between 2 and 3 credits per resource for their final product. I've told a friend of mine that she should charge WAY more than that. She can sell the resources on the bazaar for the same price and not have to worry about the crafting/failures and hassle of factories and other issues. For me, it's usually a very simple clkclkclk and I've got product on the way to the customer's hands. Usually I wander with a few crates of everything just in case the man-on-the-street asks for something.
But I am always polite when it comes to new characters. They may be new now, but I was that way once, and I still am about certain things. Lots of things are still a mystery to me. Maybe when I am a "Blue-Glowie" and offering training to the next generation of jedi, can I start to feel that I know it all, but I'll prefer to be kind and bite my tongue when I am mistreated. Better to grin and bear it with a good story, than to let your tongue fly when you don't want it to.
Keep a cool head, and remember that we are in the customer service industry....
I do that too Jame'thiel. I have helped new players with clothes, not the high end items but sometimes I'll make some shorts for a new dancer with a light bustier. Most of them appreciate it alot and then come to my shop when they have money to buy more more clothes. It's good buisness.
I would have made a black shirtfor the guy that asked and the bandolier without hesitation. But that's me.
I also have a wookie vendor and outfit wookies as best as I possibly can and would never respond to a wookie that they made the wrong character choice. They have as much rightto look the best they can as everyone else.
The one issue I have is someone asking me forsomething free without even a "hi", or "how are you" first. The first thing he said was "can you make me 2 free spec-ops dusters". I thought that was pretty rude. If someone approaches me in a nice way then I can usually do something for them.

Here's the best one I got. I just stepped off a shuttle, got my master tailor title on, and a stranger approaches me...
Him: hello master tailor!
Me: Hi ![]()
Him: Can you make clothes?
lol, this is the best thread ever.
I got this last night:
"Slip dress very puppy."
?!

once i walked into a cantina in tat, and a guy asked me "can you make black shirts?" uh.... oooookay o.O
i've gotten the "can you make clothes" thing a lot too, but that's before master tailor. if someone asked me that, i would probably go insane ![]()
Oh, I get the "Can you make clothes?" tell at least 4 or 5 times a day. My reply usually involves something like "I believe becoming Master Tailor granted me the ability to make clothes... unless they've created some new bug in the last 30 seconds." This usually gets a laugh and most will say something like "I guess that was a stupid question".
But I had a customer the other day I didn't know WHAT to do with, bless her heart. Had her heart set on teal. Told her we don't get teal. So, she put on a very dull green shirt (one of the basic domestic arts line colours) and said.. "How about this colour.. but less yellow and more blue?" Um, that's teal! Then she said she's not even a tailor and can make teal. I was really confused by this point. So, she made a maiden's dress (I think) and put it on. Said it was teal. Seems we have a different idea of teal. She ended up with lots of dull green items. But she was happy, and that's all that matters. I spent forever trying to find the right colour for her. Thankfully, she's a good customer and had a great sense of humour about the whole thing. Laughed her bum off when I told her that "less yellow and more blue" on the green would make it teal. We had some good laughs.
I also had a COMPLETELY colour blind customer the other day (that's the only way I can explain this). Wanted a black and purple decorative vest. So I made one. He informed me that the colour I made wasn't purple (I used one the new bright purples). Hmmm.. so I made the old purple. No dice. Finally pointed to a magenta (the old "red") fleshwrap and said "THAT colour". Ooooh. Okay. Made it. Then he wanted Thin Striped Pants in black with a BRIGHT blue stripe, by pointing to a dress I had on display. Assuming this was for a different outfit, I made them. He then asked for a sidebuttoned shirt in orange, requesting the colour of the fighter's flightsuit. Made that. He proceeded to put them on.. together. I cried. I'm terrified he's going to tell someone I'm his tailor!!!! The truly sad thing is that I didn't get the impression the outfit was supposed to be funny. He really seemed to like it. God help anyone who has to look at him!!!

On the topic of monitor settings, if your blacks aren't 'black' enough for you, try turning down the Brightness and Contrast on your Graphics settings under the Options Menu. Keep in mind, however, that many of your customers (probably all the fighters/hunters) have their Brightness and Contrast cranked up way too high so that they can see at night, so it'll really confuse them when you try to explain which color is which.
Or you can just move to Moenia, everything's black down here, all the time. I haven't seen the sun in two months!
"Here ya go, black boots."
"There aren't black!"
"Oh. Well, there's an easy way that YOU can fix that."
"How?"
"Crank up your contrast and drop your brightness".
Time passes.
"Hey! They're black!"
"You're welcome."

haha
wish i had done that, hehe
i just get customers that come in and ask for black. when i make them "midnight" (the near-black in the 1st color group), they said "it's green tinted". then when i use "coal" (the near-blackin the 13th group), they complain "it's too light".
or when they ask for white, and i use "snow" (the lightest color in the 7th group), they complain that it's not light enough. grr ![]()
Wow, you guys with these stories....i'm almost afraid to make it to Master Tailor.
If there's one thing that annoys me, it's stupid people.
I guess i'll still hope for the best.
