I was running from my player city which, is out in the boonies to the nearest shuttle port... trying to avoid 'red' on my radar. I get this lovely conversation in tells...

annoying guy: can you make me 2 spec-ops dusters for free?

me: why do you want 2 free spec-ops dusters? There are some in my shop, if you would like to purchase them.

annoying guy: I bought 2 and they are both gone now.

me: you bought them from my vendor and now they are gone? I didn't see an email telling me you bought any.

annoying guy: No I bought them from another tailor but now they are gone.

me: so you want me to make you 2 free spec ops dusters to replace the ones you bought from another tailor?

annoying guy: yes...

Ran to the shuttle and ignored him happily ever after.

Wow, it's amazing how so many different people can live through the same experiences. :-) Here's a story from another angle, since my other ones have all pretty much been mentioned. :-) I've been playing since Day 1, and I remember in the second or third week I started noticing oddly named clothes on the bazaar, and when I clicked for details I'd see something I knew the name of, like a plain robe, now being called Sith Robe. At first I was a little upset that people would be misled, but then I shrugged and thought hey, whatever sells I guess, and how dumb would someone have to be to buy renamed clothing, like said plan robe, that in the description says it's a dress mostly worn by females? Just then my friend (who shall remain nameless ;-) ) sends me a tell: "Hey, you're in town right? I'll be there in a sec, I have to show you something I just bought, it's really cool." So I wait for a minute and my future BH friend runs up, pauses for a moment, and then his clothing changed. I would have given anything for a /rofl command, because that's what I was doing. He was wearing a black plain robe, and I KNEW it had to be calleda Sith Robe, I just knew. He was wondering why I was laughing and I explained it's my normal reaction to seeing a guy in a dress :-) then I explained the whole plain robe/sith robe thing. Lol. Needless to say he's a little more cautious in his purchases now.

oooh, i got the strangest guys on my lekku the other day... long story

parties involved:

Mr. X

Mr. Y (person who referred X to me)

Mr. Z (other random customer)

Lily (a novice tailor that has a vendor in my shop, for lower level clothing)

Cryss (neighbor, boyfriend's guildie)

the story goes:

X bought a skinsuit for 8k, then msged me later and asked if i can sell him a flightsuit for 7k, because "1k is hard to get". i told him my price is not negotiable, and the response i got was "but you gave so-and-so a free hat!" he wouldn't believe that i didn't, and i told him if he continues with this i would ban him (i really didn't, and it's none of his business anyway)

so i got back to my shop, and found X there with Z and Lily. I caught X asking Lily for 2k, and i told him he should go do missions for an hour, since that would give him more money than he need. he said "that would be too boring" (uh...) , and i told him if he can't do missions for an hour, maybe he shouldn't be paying 15 bucks for this game. then he offered me his medical droid and 6k for the suit (which part of NOT negotiable did he not understand?)

after i turned him down, Z asked him how much for the droid. the convo goes "how much is it?" "well how much are you willing to pay for it?" repeat, repeat... i had enough and asked them to take it outside. X said "no please let me finished this", and i promptly banned him. he msged me, "that was harsh", and /addignore he went. (whew, maybe some peace and quiet.... or so i thought)

(after this part, everything from X is told to me by Lily and Cryss)

X stayed at my door, begging to be let in, then went into my other house. Lily was afraid to step out, but i told her to ignore him and report him if necessary. now Y started saying "X is saying that if you let him in he'll pay me", and kept asking me to let him in. (huh???) i told Y to drop the topic, else he might find himself outside too (really, i value my customers, but geesh) he went quiet, and after a while went home.

so i had to go out to my factory. X is STILL at my door, and started following me around when i walked out. i went to my large house and banned him there too, and went back inside. some customer came in, i told him to ignore guy outside. somewhere along the line, i got a tell from Y. after asking me several time to let him in, telling me he referred another customer to me, and me telling him the same thing i told Z, Y said "why don't you just let him in once, he's paying me 5k if you let him in, then we both win" (uh, WTH? i banned him for a reason, how do i win?) Y ended up on my ban list as well. some time around then Z also msged me again, saying that "X is going to get me into trouble with someone if you don't let him in" (huh?) i showed him /addignore, and gave him one final warning.

then Cryss stopped by. i told him this guy's been standing there ever since i banned him, and Cryss asked him to leave. apparently X didn't, and i walked out to an incapped X. (hint: do NOT duel a chemical warfare expert when you're a novice medic) Cryss let him heal, asked him to leave again, and when he wouldn't, incapped him again. this continues for a bit, as i watched outside my shop. X was asked repeatedly by Cryss to leave, and eventually he threadened to report X to the CSR. (he also told me he wanted to poison his stats ) X eventually left, after Cryss shooing him away many times (whew!)

as i was telling another MT nearby about what happened, a friend of mine (with a store down the block) msged me. just as i said "you might want to ban X" he said "some guy named X came in and offered to pay me if you let him in". we both though it was pretty funny, and after i told him the story, he agreed that X is one messed up kid.

ok, is it me, or is that kid really strange? he spent probably an hour, if not more, just standing outside my shop... yet an hour of doing missions would be *too boring*. go figure

(edit: fixed minor mistake, this thread never fails to make me laugh )

Actually, I was happily grinding away Mind Poison Cs in my house not too far away...and finally got tired of hearing "PLZ PLZ PLZ PAPPI. LET ME IN LETS TALK! PLZ PLZ IM BEGGING YOU!". Honestly, 20 minutes of that....

At first, I thought you guys were just RPing some jilted courter/unavailable pappi scene but after about 10 minutes...it started to get a little....uhmmm...creepy. Heh, I don't think you can convey just how _odd_ this kid was. You are lucky you put him ignore. I'm lucky he accepted my duel.

You tailors have the unfortunate privilege of being, really, the only class whose products are 'uber' (as far as coolness/uniqueness goes), useable by all players and affordable. Which means you get all kinds of customers....pretty much every player in the game....even the odd stalker ones

heh, i was wondering why you suddenly decided to drop by... though you needed some spices, hehe

i had NO idea he was that loud, since i ignored him... if i knew, i would've reported him a lot earlier.

ohhh... before i forget, i got another random customer today. here's the approximate convo, since i accidentally drowned it out:

him: i would like a heavy flight jacket

me: i'm not sure what you're talking about

him: so-and-so referred you to me,i thoughtyou're a master tailor

me: yes, but there's is no "heavy flight jacket"

him: it's in the master box, maybe you have to stand close to a crafting station

me: do you mean a heavy flightsuit?

him: no, a heavy flight jacket

me: if you don't believe in my tailoring knowledge, you can ask another master tailor (hello? i'm the one with the crafting tool and the master tailor title)

him: (apologize) oh, it's a heavy flight suit, sorry i called it jacket (mumble mumble)

* me ask about color, then blah blah blah, and interesting part picks back up here*

him: where can we meet? i'm near anchorhead right now

me: (wishing i can hurt whoever referred him to me) my shop is on naboo, prehaps i should refer you to a closer tailor... try karma

apparently karma went thru the same "heavy flight jacket" thing with him AGAIN, plus he wants a "cov-op pack".... ?!? i felt so bad for referring the customer to her, i should've just told him "i can't make it, sorry" o.O

In fact he had to get another acct. as he decided he didnt like to be badgered as much as he got after he became tailor.. nevermind .. I like doing it so I use his char all the time.

I get some people messaging me just as everyone has on this thread.

One particular last week was quite irratating.

customer: Hi can you make me a matching set of clothing ?
me : yes , what colors and what type of things you looking for ?

Customer: canyou make it all black ?

Me : yes but black is not really black is more dark grey its just the way game is designed.

(open trade window )

Customer: Oh those dont look black ..

Me: yes sir they are the black the game allows.

Customer : oK so whats your best offer?

Me : What?

Customer : Can you give me a deal ? How bout you throw in a bounty hunter back pack?

Me : ( already getting irratated by the beginning of a haggle) No these prices are low by most server standards .. and I sell a BH pck for 2k .. I cant throw that in

( thinking ok throw in a travel pack to get rid of him)

Customer : Well i dont have all the money on me.

Me : then you will have to tip from bank. I will buy back what you dont want .. I will throw in a travel pack.

Customer : how bout 7900 for all of it?

Me; I made you extra pant to try anda shirt to try .. I dont haggle so just either take the goods or ill sell them on the vendor..

Customer : hmmm .. well ok .. i had to try.

Me: tip first then open trade.

Customer: ok,

another 5 mn goes by while he putzes with the windows an tipping..

Me; Ok Thanks for your order good luck... ( i rush out the door )

Customer : These are cool Thanks... Ill send my friends to you.

Time spent on this one guy approximately 1 hour.

This is why i usually put items on vendor .. and a notice if you dont see it email boloh with order .. so that i can make the order have ready for folks and they can pick up.

I tell them when i get email that doesnt have correct info.. Please come to shop pick what you want and place order stating Type of clothing which is named when you click on them and the Color you want. That way i can speed your order.

I do my business out of Moenia on Naboo. Naboo's a popular planet for tailors, for whatever reason, and Moenia has the easiest to find Tailor Trainer NPC, so a lot of tailors of various skill pass through all the time, and it's not uncommon to find a small group of them near the starport or shuttle port talking shop. Recently I had met another tailor to give him some training outside the starport, and while we were chatting another pair stopped by to join in. I was wearing my Master Tailor title, another had Clothier, and the remaining two were showing their Novice Tailor colors.

While we're chatting it up, a fighter type zabrak trailed by an MSE droid (ugh, no offense zabrak lovers, but this sets off warning signs from a mile away...) runs up in front of us and begins sending me tells:

Zabrak: canu make a shirt?
Me: Does it say Master Tailor above my head? Must be a bug, I'm really a twi'lek dancing girl.
Zabrak: u make a shirt?
Me: Yes, but why don't you ask one of these other tailors?
Zabrak: i need a master shirt

Okay, that's confusing. Master Tailors get virtually nothing for men, and certainly not any shirts. I'm a real glutton for punishment, though, and I can't pretend to be AFK since he's RIGHT THERE watching me talk to these three others tailors, so I put my head back on the chopping block...

Me: Do you know what it's called? I don't have any Master Tailor shirts men can wear, and there really aren't even that many fourth tier ones. Unless you need a weird color, I'm sure one of these others can help you.
Zabrak: i need a color
Zabrak: weird color
Me: Okay, what kind and what color?
Zabrak: a black shirt

Groan. I really don't like making low level items when I can avoid it. Novice Tailors can do it, they get experience for doing it, and they need the money worse than I do. Not to mention that the piddly amount I'd get for making one doesn't even BEGIN to be worth my time...

Me: Any Tailor can make you a black shirt. We get black at Novice.
Zabrak: no i need good black
Me: Good Black? Black is black. There's only one black, anythingless would be a shade of gray.
Zabrak: i need black like u got

We're in Moenia. At night. RED looks black in Moenia at night, to say nothing for any other colors. Add on to this I'm a pitch-black Bothan and I get constant accusations of hording some special True Black colored clothing just for myself. Normally I get a good laugh out of them, but I'm running low on patience.

Me: I can't make you a shirt. I don't have any factory components with me. (Blatant lie, of course, since most shirts don't even require factory-indentical components, but obviously he wouldn't know that.)
Zabrak: can u make some and maek me 1 then?
Me: Why don't you ask one of these other three tailors standing here if they can make you one NOW?
Zabrak: cuz they rn't masters, their no good
Me: Thanks, that really means a lot. In fact, I'm so flattered I've added you to my Preferred Customer List. From now on you'll get special service whenever you come to my store.

It's funny, but for some reason a bug seems to have renamed my "Preferred Customer List" to "Ban List." Oh well...

Same day, different customer. Also a male zabrak with an MSE droid, believe it or not. Not that it's very hard to believe, it seems like Zabraks are 'uber-leet' and thus attract whatever preteen players don't get sucked in by the Wookiee racial mods. This time we're in the showroom of my shop. I'm in the process of restocking, and it's always nice and awkward when I run into someone while doing it.

Zabrak: Hi
Me: Chips Ahoy.
Zabrak: LoL. Can you make me a mercenary bandolier?
Me: I have about seven different kinds/colors on my vendor right now.
Zabrak: I want a deal on one.
Me: I don't even know you. They're 750 credits for everyone else, what makes you think I'm going to take time to custom make you one for less?
Zabrak: LoL you're funny. They only take like a minute for you to make, and you want 750 credits?
Me: They also take resources I have to gather or set and maintain harvesters for. They take components I have to make seperately or run through a factory that cost me 50k and more daily to maintain and power. The Tailor skills it took to be able to make them cost me hundreds of thousands of credits in grinding resources, tens of thousands in training fees, and almost half my skill points.
Zabrak: LoL calm down I just want a deal. it's still easy credits, you should try real work.
Me: How do you think I got the money to pay for all that, genius? I've made and spent over five hundred thousand credits on missions, and you're going to stand here and tell me you can't afford 750 for a bandolier?
Zabrak: No cause it's too much. You better make me a deal or I'll go get one from the other tailor down the road.

The tailor operatingdown the street from me is, like pretty much every tailor I know, on friendly terms with me. We base our prices off one another to avoid undercutting. Further, we try to stock different items in certain fields (I take "military chic" stuff and she takes jewelry/shoes) so I know she doesn't stock bandoliers. At this point I don't care much about the sale anyway - you'd think after I detailed my balance sheet for the guy, he'd realize his 750 credits doesn't mean a bloody thing to me compared to the respect he isn't showing me.

Me: Oh no, don't do that! I'll cut you a special deal.
Zabrak: How much?
Me: 2000 credits.
Zabrak: **edit**! I'm gone, dude.

At this point I get a nice giggle out of watching his blue dot zoom over to the other tailoring shop nearby. I go back to restocking my vendor, periodically checking my radar, and he never moves from that spot for an hour and a half. The other tailor logs in at that point, and fifteen minutes later I get this gem of a tellthat makes it all worth it:

Zabrak: Haha, I told you I'd get a better price! She sold me one for 1000!

Amusingly, I never had a single 'problem customer' until I put up my Master title. I had a thriving business (about 50-60k a day) for about two weeks before then, and despite the constant parade of customers, not one of them was anything but polite and patient.

As a side note, my most common request is not to make someone look "cool" or "Matrix-y" or anything like that. My two most common tells come from wookiees, and are:

Q: Can you make armor clothing for wookiees?
A: The armor clothing made for wookiees has no armor stats. Being unable to wear armor is the only thing that keeps your race from being completely and totally unbalanced, live with it.

Q: Can you make me look cool?
A: No. You're a wookiee, if you wanted to look cool you should have put a little more thought into character creation. The best I can do is throw a smock with a sage's hood over your head to try and minimize the amount of your ugliness people have to see.

Why oh why do customers keep offering me items on my vendor that were made by other tailors.. and then try to get me to pay twice what I normally charge for them? I swear, I really wish I could fix it so my primary vendor wouldn't accept offers!

It's even worse when they argue about it. I just can't get into the full conversation with this bright bulb, but she wanted me to pay her 5k for a small bustier made by another tailor. And INSISTED that I should cause she spent 4k in my shop! ARRGGGGHHHH!!!!!!

God save me from customers like the ones above, devs who take away decay and most of all... bugged vendors!

UnaSalusVictus,

Omg - I mean, i'm a master tailor, and i've dealt with alot of people, but I have never heard of a Tailor that would be so rude to customers. You must have a terrible life considering the way you respond to people who are only trying to buy some clothing from you.

I giveeveryonerespect, and don't pass judgement based on a 'newb' response-- I have only met one person that wanted me to 'cut a deal' and I was polite and indicate that those are the prices. He went off saying 'me and so-and-so are tight - he'll make me one for x dollars less'. I shrugged it off and moved on.

I don't let that go on to the next customer that asks about clothing.

Lighten up alittle bit -- no need to be rude with customers! I think tailoring was the wrong skill for you to pick up,because based on your posts, you certainly aren't the customer service oriented type person.

Oh man I got another one.

Had some kid, obviously about 10 years old, TELL me to make him some "stormie armor" (his spelling, not mine)

I proceeded to tell him that Stormtrooper armor was factional only.

Kid: so u cant make (grammer lessons, anyone?)

Me: No, you have to buy it with faction points from an Imperial Recruiter.

Kid: oooooh

Kid: Can u make imp officer uniform

Me: Also factional, sorry

Kid: Ok, how about a camo outfit, me and my PA want to look cool. (oh god, an entire PA with paramiltaries and spec ops dusters, how original)

This goes on for a bit until he apparently goes LD, and i never hear from him again. (blessing?, yes i think so)

I happen to be very nice to most of my customers. I have several who holded off on buying master items, despite the presence of other master tailors on my planet, because they wanted to buy specifically from me. I have customers I chat with in tells every day, whether they need clothes or not. I do accept returns on my items if they are not in the "right" color or can't be worn with the outfit the person thought they could, and take time out to offer helpful suggestions to people who want them.

However, I demand respect. I am a MASTER TAILOR. I achieved this title on my own, post-factory nerfs, without any exploits, guild help, or backing from friends (aside from the purchases of aforementioned loyal customers). Doing this took me at least as much time as mastering an combat profession - I would know, having done so on another server - and not only made far less money (I accumulated over two million on said character), but actually COST me over 500k credits all told.

I have put in a lot of time and effort to gain the ability to make clothes. I have spent a significant portion of my total skill points merely to be able to make things for other peoples - almost entirely for other people, since as a male what I can make for myself is a surprisingly short list. I except to be treated politely and patiently, and never, ever be told how to do my job. I, like all tailors, have little patience for people who treat me more like a store clerk at the GAP than a fashion designer.

As for my responses to wookiees, yes I do tell them OOCly that they're ugly and nothing I can do will change that. For Pete's sake, you wookiees out there HAVE to know this. Being ugly is part of your racial identity; you're the big, scary, ugly aliens. A wookiee that wasn't ugly wouldn't be much of a wookiee at all. I'm not saying you, as the player, made a poor choice in being a wookiee - it wouldn't be Star Wars without ugly aliens - but you do need to realize what comes part and parcel with that decision, and that, in this case, is being ugly.
