Thread: Gotta love this

Last night (or maybe the night before) I was heavy grinding my very last box to master tailor. On top of that, I'm trying to rustle up some fiberplast from some sources, AND i'm having connectivity issues, AND i'm trying to read my textbook on the side so I can be prepared for my first day of class. So out of nowhere I get a tell from a problem client for ID who I seem to dimly remember asking me to change a feature, and I did so, and then two hours later she wanted me to trek to Talus to fix it back the way it was. Ugh, no thank you.

Client: hi canu do custom colers?

Me: <oh ****! I forgot about her. Wild horses couldn't drag me away from my grind session right now. Not to mention this sounds like a "can you give me blue hair" discussion that may last all night.>

Me: /afk

Client: r u coming to Talus

Afk auto response <as i think *edit* no!>

Client: HELLLOOOOO

Afk auto response

Client: I need to ask you a question!!!! (no doubt there was a spelling error somewhere in there that I can't recall.)

AFK auto response

Not a bad person, mind you, just not what I felt like doing at the moment. I'm almost a MASTER!!! So then I went LD.

Client: now can u talk to me?

Me: <oh ****. My afk went off. And the fact that I went online has just reminded her that I'm here and I still haven't talked to her. Now if i turn my afk back on, it's really obvious. I'm not running around the galaxy to do an ID when i'm thisclose to master! Let me grind in peace!>

LD

Client: can you answer a question?

Me: <oh for the love of god! where's the /anon in this *edit* game! Friends lists are a curse! Is there a law that says I have to answer every tell! Can't I have some *edit* privacy??>

Client: why are u ignoring me?

Client: if u want me to stop bugging you i will...

Me: < Not answering tells is a big clue that I want you to stop bugging me! Ok.... meditate.... focus on the grind>

LD

Email from client: u r ignoring me just tell me if u want me to stop bugging u and i will

At this point it's become a matter of pride. I'm BUSY. There's no law that says I need to answer tells. The /afks have been ineffectual. Where's my /anon button? I do eventually want to help her, and not put her on ignore. Just NOT RIGHT NOW.

So I guess the moral of this story is, for the non-tailors out there, please EMAIL us if you want something!!! It's so invasive and stalker-y to be bombarded with tells. There are many reasons for not answering a tell... dinner on the stove, being logged on by your significant other who has no <edit> clue who these people are and just wants to steal your money, connectivity problems, a tax law textbook, unexpected cat vomiting, being in the middle of a guild planning discussion, negotiating a deal with a vendor, being on the phone with grandma, alt-tabbing out to look up something on the web, watching significant other tame something cool on the other computer and dictating which commands you want (frolic!), negotiating evil creatures stalking the harvesters and then running for your life, doing a item transfer for a friend, doing a special order for another client (this goes without saying), or a simple desire to finally grind out master tailor after weeks and weeks and weeks (needless to say I did NOT make master that night).

OMG....ya'll have been watching my /tells, haven't you?

One thing I did find that was effective was removing myself from the search feature---my vendor's still on the map, but my vendor's name is a shortened version of my full character name, so people don't always put two & two together, and I get some peace.

Honestly, the one thing that's irritating me the most is the number of amorsmiths contacting me, asking me to give or sellthem synthetic cloth schematics. Anyone else get this? My answer's usually a pretty polite version of "AS IF!", but then they're added to my 'do not recommend' list. If they need the cloths, they can buy them like everyone else.

I get those a lot. I usually don't mind, at 5k a crate or 5k a schematic it's often a good deal. It just depends how many I have left for me afterwards.

Oh, I'll sell the crates---I'll even cut a deal for bulk buying. But I won't hand over my schematics. There's just some things I feel I've earned the right to keep a "secret", considering I was the one who spent the time to get to master.

Heh... actually it's not even mine. A college buddy runs the site and when he heard I was a Tailor in SWG... well, you get what you saw.

I'll let him know you liked it.

If it wasn't for disappointment, I wouldn't have any appointment.

Very entertaining thread. I must say that it boggles my mind that so many folks do not take the time to do even a little research on the items they want. They can play an online game, but apparently lack the ability to surf for info. I've experienced everyone of the scenarios mentioned above. Us tailors really have it bad with just the sheer number of items we can make. I mean really, do we need 10 different styles of belts? Not to mention the different colors. Sometimes dealing with customers is so infuriating I just /quit. Every craft has it though. I can hear the DE's cursing about having toexplain droid programming with every sale, or AC's with figuring out the damage type for the person. I love the crafting in this game, but getting the items to the customers can sometimes be a royal pain.

Thought I'd add my experience last night to this thread I reached master around a week ago and since then have started taking custom orders. Last night I had arranged a consultation with a master dancer who wanted to try on a few different outfits. So im running through town and out towards my shop and i get this:-

Customer: I need clothes

Me: Ok any clue what you're looking for

Customer: Something sexy. Like a thong.

Me: Mmmm theres no thongs in game, theres a couple of exotice outfits which look like them though. One being the exotic leotard, the other being the flesh wrap

Customer: Dont like either. I want something likea thong. Or like a tube on the top that shows the under side of my breasts.

Me: (Starting to shake my head at this point) Low cut and small tops i can do, although they arent that revealing.

Customer: Do you have a shop?

Me: Yes, i'll send you the waypoint although im running to meet a customer atm who booked my time earlier, so if you need specific help I can be with you in half an hour

Customer: No, im coming now.

(Ok, well i have looooooooads of bustiers and low cut tops and such on the vendor, she'll find something she likes)

So im at my store, helping out this dancer when she arrives and wants to try on half the store. I hand her the items for her to try on and send her the message

Me: If you need more specific help, you'll just have to give me a while until xxxxx has decided what she wants.

At this point, she switches from tells, to says.

Customer: hey xxx (dancers name) cant you dance for me so i can heal my BF while Tally finds me clothes.

Very politely said dancer refused and said she was trying to work out what she wanted to buy herself.

Customer: Tally?

Customer: Tally!

Customer: I want what she's wearing (Combat pants...... NOTHING like a thong but /shrug, so i hand her the other colour to try.

Customer: yes i like this. Hey xxxx, dance while im afk please, this wound needs healing and thats what you do.

I couldnt believe she'd said this but i was hoping she'd gone afk long enough to not hassle me until the dancer had left.

No such luck

Customer: Ok how much is this outfit?

Me: 11k

Customer: What about my discout?

Me: What discount?

Customer: Why cant i have a discout?

Me: With due respect, why should you?

Customer: Because i could have stolen everything you "!#"!¤ let me trying on.

(Ok this annoys me since i got stung by this last week.)

Me: Well sure, but do you think any of the other tailors on the server would want to deal with you after?

Customer: Ha! let me try the slip dress.

At this point the dancer sent me a tell saying i should evict her and i totally agreed. But how to get back the outfit she had just tried on...

Me: Ok give me the top and pants back

Customer: No give me the dress

Me: My other customer wants to try the pants and top, please can i have them a sec

Customer: I wont steal them.

Me: I know, and you have first dibs on that colour if you want it.

Customer: oh. Mmmm Ok then.

So she hands me back the outfit and i promptly ban her from the store.

Customer: woah cant get back in your store.

Customer starts shouting outside the house: Yoohoo? Cant get in? helloooooo?

At this point the dancer is rolling around laughing.

Me: Im sorry, you have been rude ever since you came in here, im busy and you will have to find another tailor.

Customer: ?????????!

Me: ?!

Customer: I was going to pay the full 11k!

Me: You were arguing over the price, being rude and i didnt have time to begin with. Please just find another tailor

Customer: I have 100k! i can afford 11k on clothes!

Me: Good, good, then please go elsewhere.

The dancer is still laughing at the little blue dot on the radar circling the house.

Customer: So like, you dont want my 11k?

Me: No.

Customer: WELL FINE! Theres other tailors close! i'll go there! bet they charge less to!

Me: Well, they dont (I know both the other tailors close by me and we all base our prices on Niveas so we all charge pretty much the same)

At this point however i start to get pangs of guilt for Kessi and Natalia who all have stores just down from me, but realising they werent online, i was quietly smug

Ending the evening off, i also got.

Customer: Hey i'll pay you 20k to come to bestine and make me look cool

Me: Hmmm any clue what you want?

Customer: To look cool.

Me: No clue at all? combat style? casual? formal?

Customer: You have cool hats with like three thingies coming off them and such. Id quite like one of those then cool stuff.

Me: Ok, sorry i dont have time tonight. If you want the waypoint to my store, you could look round, get some ideas then talk to me tomorrow.

Customer: NM then.

Thats my two cents

Kind Regards,

Tally, Master Tailor of Naboo.

I direct people to Niveas site as well. I hope she doesn't mind but it makes life so much easier for tailor and customer alike when they know the name of what they want and we just have colour to discuss.

Actually, the main problem I've been having has been with people...clinging.

By which I mean complete strangers who'd once bought a pair of boots from me asking for a 10k loan. Or someone I've made an outfit for besieging me with "*hugs u!*" emails. It's a little odd, and it never seems to stop, and I'm not exactly sure what causes it...

Well, that and the requests for luxurious gowns. Telling people that the bodice is bugged and remains teal green regardless of what the cratfer does to it doesn't actually stop them from tossing out the occasional curse and swearing that they're going to "that other guy on Naboo". Explaining to them that they're wasting 1600cr on the trip doesn't, either.

The trickiest request I've received, though, was "something engineery". We went through heavy reinforced jackets, reinforced pants, dusters, desert command jackets, absolutely everything short of flightsuits, which I don't yet have.

Edan, if you're on Intrepid, I'm probably the source of the Han Solo pants. I made a few factory runs of black thin-striped pants with a red stripe and named them Bifein's *Solo Special* Thin-Stiped Pants. Sold pretty good, too...

In any event, I *did* leave the actual name of the object in the description, so sorry if the customer was confused.
