master tailor, starsider
I must be on an intelligent server. I have my expert tailor tag up and right now I don't have any factory components so I am severly limted to what I can make. People send me /tells asking for flesh wraps or flight suits and I tell them that I can't make them yet and they always say "Ok thanks". I have yet to get a dumb customer like that. I had one guy that wanted a westner look(a duster not in black!!) but like I said I had no factory parts
. Oh well, I should have master within a week so maybe then I will start getting all the funny customers.
BTW I prefer tells to regular chat. I always work in the cantina and there are at least 6 entertainers there plusthe people healing. It can get very noisy.
I had one last night that went something like this:
Customer: Can u make me something flashy?
Me: Ummm.... sure. What do you want? Pants, skirt, vest, jacket?
Customer: I dunno. Something flashy.
Customer: Can u make anything for a Twi'lek. Like the headpiece?
Me: I can do the bone crest and lekku wrap.
Customer: Ya, I want the wrap.
Me: Okay, let me get to a crafting station.
(traveling music)
Me: (a suspicion dawning) You know, the wraps are VERY expensive. They require factory components which are extremely hard to come by (note: on my server, this is the absolute unvarnished truth -- neither factory crates nor factories can be had for love nor money).
Customer: Oh. (pause) Well, can you make me something flashy?
Customer: And cheap.
(Return to the top of the page and repeat the conversation for a few lines. We settle on a dress blouse in pink).
Customer: How much.
Me: 500 (I'm being kind to the mentally challenged).
Customer: That's expensive, isn't it?
Me: You could probably get it cheaper from another tailor (I'm really hoping and praying at this point she does).
Customer: I'll give you 400.
So the whole time I'm making it, she chatters on about how she's getting ripped off, and when she gets it, she likes it but she still thinks she's getting ripped...
And I'm thinking, in the time it's taken me to pry out of you what you want and give it to you for 400 credits, I could have made at least 6000 credits doing missions... and judging from your Surveyor title, so could you. You're haggling with me over the virtual equivilent of a nickle.
And if Iam pesteredto do anymore man-on-the-street orders, I think this what I'm going to tell them: One credit equals one penny. One clothier equals one Armani. Armani doesn't work for pennies. Begone, badly-dressed personage.
OMG, this is unbelievable...
All of the posting are EXACTLY what I receive every time I play. I love reading that out Tailor experiences are identical.
Ugh! Nalinya, that's horrible. Any dancer *I* know that did this to a tailor would be on my /ignore list fast.Hope it wasn't anybody I know.
I love my tailors. I try to make my orders as simple and as specific as I can, to make their life easier. I mean, how hard is it to go to Nivea's site and look up the exact item, the exact palette available, and a rough price guide beforehand? For as much as dancers live by their attire, you'd think a little bit of research wouldn't be out of line.
I've not shopped with you before, but I'll be wanting a fleshwrap as well soon (need some variety from hotpants/bustiers/leotard), and I'll look you up. I'll send you an email in-game, probably this weekend.

Must be said: BEST... THREAD... EVER...
I used to feel sorry for myself, but these stories make my customers look like Einsteins!
Hmm. Biggies...
"Cool" "Red" "Black" and "Jedi"
Obviously Red and Jedi are impossible (And I inform my coustemers as such). Cool is meaningless, and black is, although annoyingly bland, very popular and a reasonable goal.
I still hate the coustemers who have you coustomise for an hour and at the very end say 'I have only 80 creds'.
I can't do dusters, but everyone asks 'Can you make dusters?' I say 'No, and I'm a long way a way' they say 'Do you know anyone who does?' I say 'No.' they say 'That's messed up' I say 'Well what am I supposed to do?' etc...
When I can do dusters, I'm just going to respond 'Yes, i can do dusters, but my crafting tool is bugged and black comes out pink, so I can't do black.' See what happens. ![]()
Had a bothan, who had to be the shortest humanoid I have ever seen, he would have been lucky to clear 3' 5" with heels, ask for some clothes that would make him look intimidating. LOL!
And here I am an 8' Trandoshan.
It's really too bad there isn't an animated /ROFL emote, because I was.
this isn't has good has some of the ones up here but..
C: can you make me some cloth like what your wearing
Me: sure, that will be (price) , ok ?
C: ok
Me: what colors would you like? (I'll let you guess what we wanted
)
a few mins while I make them, open trade window.. I put the cloths in; he puts half the amount I asked
Me: thats only half of what I told you the price is
C: thats all I have on me, I'll bank you the rest after the trade
Me: sorry I need it upfront, but if you want you can bank tip before the trade
C: but this is all I have plz
(me very annoyed at this point)
C: can I PLZ have them, you all ready made them they're no use to you
Me: *sigh* I'm puting them on the bazzar
after a min of him begging for them, I put them on the bazzar, to find out 2 mins later he bought them at the full price I asked before
I wanted to say that as a tailor (non-master) I feel that it's common courtesy to know the name of a master tailor or two in your area, or at least one master tailor in the galaxy. People spend a lot of effort looking for their dusters or fleshwraps or whatever it may be, so it doesn't take alot of effort to know even just 1 name, and it can save someone literally an hour or more if they just don't know. Just professional courtesy.
LOL, great thread.
Gotta run I'll add more later. But one thing, I GREATLY prefer tells when in a cantina. I usualy walk in and get 5 or 6 people trying to order cloths at once, and it is easier to keep up with tells than it is with all the other says/emotes/etc going on spamming the bottom window. Can't go by chat bubbles because crafting windows are covering the screen.
Anyways, I mostly focus on dealing with Ladies. They know what they want most of the time, and when they don't I find it easier to help them (except when it is obvious it is a guy playing a female character). Most guys have those "I want something cool" "just make whatever looks cool" response...and then they don't like what you make. They hate that color. They hate whatever, but still won't give you an idea of what they want. I can't stand dealing with many guys
(there are of course some good ones out there).
Or, how about "I want a shirt"..
What kind of shirt?
Just a shirt, how many are there?
A couple dozen I guess.
Oh, pick a cool one.
What color?
Green
Light green, emerald green, olive green?
huh?
Nevermind, I'll do a good green.
Then they get there. No no, I wanted a longsleeve shirt, like this...
Thats a gunmans duster...
Yeah, thats what I want.
*SCREAM*
That or like someone said, when they ask for "red boots" and you have to explain there isn't a red choice available. Or dark blue, when light blue is the only choice, etc.
