The eventual end of all this is the elimination of players from the economy. If nothing is done to fix the database, a year from now, player crafting in the game will probably be limited to making powerups, camps, and maybe some foodstuffs like bofa treats. Everything else will be loot drops or purchased from NPC stores.

That's the ultimate direction they're headed in, because they either can't or won't make the database support the "player-run economy" game design.

Well, they could ease the pressure on the database by getting rid of all of the useless items like the insects you get from lairs and broken itemswhich clog up the bazaars. They can also make real decay. Clothing and armor should dissapear and be deleted from the database when it decays, not just stick around. I think that just these things would extend the life of the database by quite a bit while it is being redesigned.

*IF* it's redesigned, then, yes, doing things like that could probably buy them a lot of time. But my suspicion is that database redesign is the only solution that's completely off the table, because (my educated guess) is that it's too politically volatile - the "third rail of SWG internal politics."

Fundamentally redesigning an active production database is a pretty huge, time-consuming, and expensive process. Going forward with it would be, among other things, an admission that someone somewhere *really* screwed up, and the axe would probably fall on more than just the incompetent Oracle consultants directly responsible.

But I have a feeling they will never do a redesign, for that very reason, and the database limitations will just continue to be a dead weight on the game, preventing or severely limiting future expansions, requiring economy-breaking nerfs like this one, and generally causing massive trouble until it's too late to fix anymore.

I'm hoping though, that that poll is taken with a grain of salt. Most of the non-crafters are for the change because it will make it a little easier and more convenient for them to sell and shop. But we, the artisans and merchants, are the ones with the most experience with the vendor and bazaar systems. We are the ones that the changes will most hurt. So I'd like to hope our opinions will count for more than the more uninformed masses who have never tried to run a shop or sell as their profession.

I say if they raise the bazaar limit we raise our prices the same amount. Most Master Tailors check these boards so i say this can be done.

If you check the poll over 70% of the player base thinks its agood idea but most of those are not tailors

Grrr, my Queendom for an edit button! "my listed price of 10k!" Not 1k. /sigh

Also, since I'm here again, seems to me the lines on this issue divide at crafter/merchant versus combat only types. Why do they listen to folks' whines about a part of the game they do not play, do not understand and do not care to?Am I on the Pistoleer forum yelling at them to nerf how many different guns that guy can carry on him at one time because it's just too hard for me to figure out why he'd want so many guns? Nope. They want us to reduce to 150 to help out the poor souls who can't find or don't want to use the Next Item button or how to use the sort features (such as they are).Well gosh. /pats gun-toting precious on the head All right honey, you won. Now go shoot more stuff so you can afford to buy my stuff. What little of it you will be able to find cuz vendors are gonna drop off the map like there wasa massacre. Bah.

However, I DO like this mention of an idea to make non-merchant's vendors non-functional. i.e.: the customer can't view it or make a purchase, but the owner could still empty it with no loss of goods due to the vendor being "shut off." If you had merchant, then dropped it, you'd best get rid of that stock now cuz soon maybe, you might not be able to use that vendor.

I'm totally down with rising my prices 3k if this goes through, at least on the higher level stuff. I wouldn't want to do it on my novice level stuff, because I try and keep low-price things in stock. The city I live in has quite a few new and low level players, and I want to make sure they can afford clothes too!

But I'm worried that the undercutters will do the opposite, and actually drop their prices so that everything they sell can go on the bazaar...

There will still always be those that lowball on bazaar. I think some of the key advantages real tailors will still have is selection (assuming they implement a reasonable vendor item limit)and service. We'll have to wait a bit and see if raising prices will be necessary or help.

Making vendors usable by merchants only and being able to post more items as the higher lvl merchant you are... They make merchants more viable, but I do feel for the tailors that want to delve in other things like combat.Guess that just means some serious decisions will need to be madeon character directions.Get enough merchant skills or find a pure merchant and pick up your gun to go hunting...

Well, if the bazar limit is raised and the vendor limit is implemented, I think the bazar could potentially offer far better selection then a tailor's vendor can. Personally I think the advantage that "real" tailors have is their existing loyal customer bases and the fact that they understand what sells and what doesn't. I'm quite sure with a 6k limit on the bazar I could simply find "what's missing" and make a fortune filling that gaps at an extremely inflated price. I'm very serious about it. I haven't sold anything on the bazar in months but I may start doing it again, just as sort of "payback". Those that voted for the vendor cap increase can now pay double or triple for their clothing. 6k for a pair of hide boots, muahahahahaha.

Annabelle, if at any time we need a correspondant it's right now.

People who are active in the tailoring community outside of the game will stop. I see no reason to continue working on SWGTailor and I am certain that with the implementation of the vendor limit, Tailors serverwide will retire and effectively give up their great websites.

How many retired tailors are going to continue to hang out in the forums? The sage advice of tailors will go mute and the questions asked by hologrinders and new tailors will go unanswered.

Please vocalize our disgust with this latest "fix", please let them know what will happen to the tailoring profession and the crafting community in general.

Hmm. Now there's an idea for working around the vendor limits. Fill your shop vendors with Master level items and other big ticket hot sellers. Then fill in the gaps at the local bazaar with artisan level items but only in colors available to a master. And make those items all 6k. (I've never taken the time to do a factory run of boots in black but I might now.)

Not as a way to take business away from the lower level tailors; leave them to list all the black and white. But it would make the customers still need to come to a tailor's shop, or mall vendor (provided by oneself or a pure merchant) or to place custom orders for low level items they want in colors other than black, white and muted, muddied shades of depressing. (I know I was depressed until I could use brights.)

Ah well. Nevermind my bitterness. I'm not mean or vengeful. I'm just sad they are going to seriously damage what was for me, the funnest part of this game.

Unlike many, Master Tailor with Master Merchant was my original template for this character. I no sooner get Master Merchant when this debacle reared it's evil head. If they do implement the escalating vendor limits per management skill for merchants, with Masters getting 1000 per, I will be okay, not great or as I was, but okay. But those of you who are using pure merchants, or less vendors...this is going to hurt bad. Real bad. The Tailor profession is unique in it's need for variety and numbers of items listed. I really think we deserve a bone of some kind in compensation that will ameliorate our loss in this venue. Something, someway that allows us to display our wealth of wares that no other profession possesses, beyond the database imposed house storage limits and the impending vendor limits.

/sigh I hate it.

I think the idea just sucks period. Every great crafter, from weaponsmith to artisan to tailor, often has in excess of 1000 items on a vendor at one time, to keep up with demand. And that is just on one planet...

Tailors though, by far, would be the hardest hit profession. We have more things we could make than could actually be placed on a single vendor. Not good. We should at least be able to create three of each item, at the very least.

If this goes live, I will probably just do some women designs that sell in excess of 3k each, normal designs that sell for several k each, dump all the low-selling stuff (or jack the prices up), and just do bio-engineering and tailoring components. Dump the dead weight. If it doesn't sell, or doesn't make me a couple quick k for my time, it will get cut from the roster. Period.

The 6k limit on the bazaar really gets me. I'm completely against raising the maximum price on the bazaar, especially for durable goods. If they could find a way to allow resources to have a higher maximum than finished items I wouldn't have a problem with it.

I agree Anabelle. Or make it so that master merchants can place a bazaar terminal in player cities and encourage their crafters to sell goods on the player city bazaar for 6000 credits and retain the 3000 limit on the main bazaar. I fear lag increase in the major cities with the price change and players will be less willing to travel to player vendors to buy items. They will become lazy and then shop only on the bazaar.

Since you're our correspondant, I hope you can make a strong case over on the boards with a complete list of reasons why it would hurt most of us tailors with our own shops.

I do like your solution as well however.
