Thread: End to tailor vendors?
Ive been selling 200k worth of clothing and furniture every day
aprox 100 items a day
the key to selling that much has been variety, something that will be limited if they cap my vendor.
5 or 6 different color schemes per clothing item.
Not everyone wants to wear black or white.
150 per vendor is just not enough, more like 500 per vendor.
They seem to currently be leaning towards a graduated system of - more merchants skills - more items.
This may be helpful to some - worse for others.
I have a master merchant - so if the cap for master is 500 per min - I'm golden - others are going to have to regroup and rethink though.
One option that surely isn't open to everyone is have a second account that's a merchant. I happen to be fortunate enough to have exactly that situation - my own account - my hubbies account.

But I'm worried that the undercutters will do the opposite, and actually drop their prices so that everything they sell can go on the bazaar...
But remember that you can't put very many items on the bazaar. Every time I have seen an undercutter on the bazaar, they seem to give up in a few days since they have to stand by a bazaar terminal and restock all the time. What always bugs me are the undercutting holo-tailor vendors. I have seen cases where all master items were listed for 2500 credits or less because apparently some holo-tailor decided to crank out a bunch of stuff with the rest if their resources before they gave up tailor and put them on a vendor cheap.
Oh, and I also won't be assuming that the bazaar willturn intothe place to go for low-mid lvl goods without a interface overhaul first. In sum, it's still a mess... disorganized, clunky interface, mis-sorted items, takes ages to find anything, suffers from the same transparent "next" button problem vendors do....
I've talked to a few people about these possible changes, and they all have the same thing to say, most try to avoid the bazaar at all costs. It's the last thing they think about when shopping. There's only two reasons i ever check bazaar, when I'm in the boonies and run out of med supplies or need a small resource stack urgently for grinding.
I guess I'm just taking a more wait and see approach.
With the proposed bazaar changes.... I see LAG
Lag in cities like coronet because if they raise the bazaar cap to 6000 then no one needs to go out of town to shop. My buisness would take a hit because players will be to lazy to travel out of town to buy their clothes.
I think what they need to do is maybe give master merchants the ability to place a bazaar terminal in their city with the cap at 6000 credits for players who live in their city, therefore hopefully drawing players out of the big cities like cnet and into the player cities, which in my mind would be a good thing. The last thing we need is MORE players searching and using the bazaar in a place like Cnet. I just shudder to think what it would be like trying to go to town to add things to the bazaar. I don't like the cap increase one bit.

I just posted, but basically, yes, this will make me close up my shop and take custom orders only. I just don't have the playtime for custom orders, though. I don't have the space to hold orders for clients. I don't have the time to be chained to my shop. Other professions can just factory produce identical items, drop them on a vendor, and go play around. As it is, I have to spend hours restocking. Now this system is utterly ridiculous.
I find it frustrating that the rules are being changed 6 months after release. I find it frustrating that tailors are going to be most adversely affected by this change.
I run 2 shops right now. I'll have to downsize to zero, and choose a city to call home. There is no way I can effectively take custom orders in 2 places at once. If I do decide to reopen, I'll need FIVE vendors for all my stuff!!!
This is the first time I've really been hopping-mad with this game. I know I'll get over it, and be able to rationally assess the situation and my options, but right now, I feel harassed. I feel like logging on will be a chore. I feel like I'm going to have to spend hours on administrative crap just to get my online business "back to normal." I feel dread over the onslaught of tells that will likely occur. I feel ashamed that my customers will come to my shop and find a substandard selection. I feel like tailoring will not be "fun."
The best we can do is to all make our voice heard, and hopefully the powers that be will listen.
I am Tailor, hear me roar.
You feel 100% the same as me, I cant believe this Tailor nerf - If they press on I will go and brawl for a living and close the shop, if i cant offer choice and quality i dont want to offer anything - Thanks SOE.

I think apathy will win out here and the devs will jam this through whatever we think. And all I can say to that is..
meh... glad WoW is coming out soon.
As if city lag isn't bad enough.. *shakes head* I can live with a 300 limit and a few vendors but at 150, I can not even offer a good selection of a few items. This is no service to my customers.

Yep, I was just talking to my boyfriend about playing WoW when it comes out. The bugs in this game are enough to drive you mad but then when you add these changes by SOE, it's just too much.
Right now I'm a smidgen under 600 items. And I haven't bothered stocking any wookiee items, or almost any twi'lek items, because I knew I had a move coming up. When fully stocked, my vendor will be at about 900 items.
In other words,it will just barely be possible, if I manage to spread everything out perfectly, to fit everything onto 6 vendors. Of course, it won't round out that well. Which means at minimum, dropping a few lines of bioengineered clothing and dropping at least 3 of my 13 color schemes.
And even then I would almost have to be a master merchant, just to run a single shop.
This makes tailoring to the rest of the merchant professions what commando or bounty hunter are to the other elite combat professions - the one that costs twice as many skill points, for no obvious advantage.
But don't assume that only tailors will get bit by this. I know a moderately famous weaponsmith who dropped ranged weapons off of his vendor altogether, he'll only make them for friends and guildmates. In melee weapons alone, he has to keep about 550 to 600 items on his vendor at any given time in order to ever have even a single day off from having to restock.
Last I checked, the thread asking for feedback on this was up to 66 pages. Jumping around in it, I don't think I saw a single favorable comment about the 150-item cap. The closest thing to a favorable reaction I saw was an idea to raise the cap above 150 per vendor, butfor higher level merchants only. In fact, the plan suggested nerfing people with Artisan/Business III even further, to 75 items per vendor. To my disgust, Thunderheart endorsed this plan tentatively - but even that little sop came with a huge caveat. He said that if they nerf existing vendors, they won't be able to scale them to merchant skill level, so in order to get your merchants back above 150 items, you would have to delete and recreate your vendors. What he thinks we're going to do with the 600 items that were on there when we had to do this, I have no idea. Delete them and start over, I guess.
Don't spam it multiple times, but if you haven't complained about this, it's still worth doing. It seems to take about 100 pages of complaints to really kill a bad idea around here.
