Thread: Today's Patch: Tailor made component for wookiee armor
Number 1 would be used to make low ham, high kinetic armor for PvE encounters. Since the armorsmith would experiment in special resist on the final assembly and the damage it is supposed to protect against is mainly kinetic, it does not matter much if the base is a few percent up or down as long as the hams are kept in check.
Number 2 would be used in high base armor and in all hybrids of base/special armor where resists are the most important thing and hams are not even looked at when buying. So almost all mixing of base/encumbrance/special will be done in the real armorsegments used in the armor, and probably not in the tailormade item (with the exception of number 1). This type can be used as a substitute for number 1 in PvE armor as well, allthough it would probably not be optimal.
Since this armor will never hit the 80% resistcap there will be no finetuning required on the tailors part. So it will not be as triplelayered composite is today, where the armorsmith will work for hours to get the right balance.
Also, couldn't this be considered more of a bridgehead for more tailoritems to come? Items where you may use this paddingsegment to make limited resist clothing? I'm pretty sure that if you get it moved to armorsmith at this time, you will never see it used in any new clothing. I'm also sure that an armorsmith might be willing to provide the resources or atleast point in the right direction if you ask.
(Yes, this is comeing from an armorsmith)

Ya but the ? is are we gonna be able to use this componet or are we gonna become yet another classes factory machine.
as a master armorsmith I am a bit amazed at the responses by the tailor community, they have invaded the armrsmith boards, so I am coming over here to post a few of my thoughts.
many SWG players whine and moan for new content.....but when it comes whine and complain about it.
I have read both here and on the armorsmith boards about tailors that are POed about the addition of this new componet in the tailor tree,or mad that it can be experimented on. please all of you people BE QUIET!!. If you don't want to make these componets DON'T, if you are angry that you will be experimenting (like every other crafting profession) then DON'T experiment. I am sure on every server us armorsmiths can find enough willing tailors to supply us with the needed componets.
the loud voices are usually the ones that get heard. Don't take this away from the many tailors that have been praying for changes, and pleading for experimentation. Armorsmiths would be more than willing to make it themselves, by whining and moaning you are only hurting your own, and the tailors out there that have been waiting for such a change.
if you dont want to get involved in the new wookie armor then don't!! we don't need to hear all the whining.

Some people might ask.. why only wookiee armor component and not the rest of the other armor components? Note that wookiees came from Kashyyyk, and they are not a technologically advanced species. They can take things apart and put it back together really well, but they cannot design things to save their life. They are not technologically sound, therefore, their armor should look primitive, like made out of wood and leather. There are trees over two miles tall on Kryshyyk that deflect blaster bolts, and they were known to make primitive armor from those trees. If tailors were in charge of making all the wookiee armor, I wouldn't mind because wookiee armor should be pretty basic.
Uh...no.
Here's what StarWars.com has to say regarding Wooks:
"Despite their fearsome and savage countenance, Wookiees are intelligent, sophisticated, loyal and trusting."
"Though Wookiees do have a primitive appearance, they are quite comfortable with advanced technology. They can repair and maintain modern starships. They have developed a unique projectile weapon called a bowcaster. The Wookiee city of Thikkiiana was one of the key manufacturers of sophisticated computer componentry in the New Republic."
