Vandessa, I know you tailors are rightfully upset about clothing decay being dropped/delayed (whatever it is this week), but try to take away one of the few ways you can make money using scout and ranger skills.

Then I suggest scouts and rangers actualy try to make money. With the hide shortage coming along its obvious that they are either 1 not harvesting, or 2 using the hides themselves.

They have, but as I wrote earlier in the thread(See my reply to Kylania on the first page), it requires a sea-change in the way the "professional" hunters opperate. I'll reiterate one of my points from the previous thread here: Because harvesting in a group was inefficent at best, and pointless with people you couldn't trust, most people hunted for profit solo. Ergo the majority of harvested resourceswere from people who didn't mind (or even enjoyed) spending time outside of groups, AKA soloers. Those scouts that like grouping just as much as(like me), or more than, soloing would only sell harvested resources on occasion. With the bug in solo harvestingthe people that supplied you before are not able to meet your demand now, and a significant proportion of them won't group.

It is true thatnow a group can get resources faster than a soloer, but there is a catch. To sell that in quantities that tailors would like (several hundered in some cases) you either have to hunt for hours or combine the harvest from all the scouts, or still hunt for longer than a soloer did pre-patch. This brings up the same trust issues as we had before. If you combine the harvest who gets it? Once they have the money, will they share the way you agreed before? And so on....Habitual soloers tend to be less likely to trust someone in-game than habitual groupers. Over time there will be some adjustment, even after the bug is worked out, butcan you see why scouts and rangers are not filling the gap immediately?

Something wrong with that business model...let's see, I give away clothes that last forever in order to get repeat business...hmm.....

At any rate, you are complaining about having to raise prices due to a supply shortage. That's what economics is all about. Hides get scarce, price goes up, tailors pay more, tailor prices go up. GASP you mean now I have to charge 800 for boots that were only 275 last week? YES! That's how economics work. Don't brag about how low your prices are and then complain about how everything else is too expensive. Surely you see the silliness of that.

Greetings my once-fellow tailors!

After an unfortunate falsification by the Empire leading to a subsequent raid and closing of my Tailoring shop a month ago, I have persued other grand adventures and left the great craftsmanship tasks in your hands.

I am in a position to start selling hides- but I need the assistance of the tailors again... I seem to have quickly forgotten my craft!

Which hides are needed the most, in particular, specific hides? I recall a few items needing either Tatooine Leathery or some such, but to be honest, I have no list currently of what is in demand. (I do know what aspects of the quality need to be high though!)

Could someone give me a kind mini-list of those specific hide types that are the most sought after, so I can help get some on the market?

Many thanks,

PeeyonNiba,

Actually, I'm real glad this is happening to you. Nothing against you personally, but people who are the extreme discounters are bound to get hurt the most when resource shortages happen and prices rise. I guess you built up your customer base, based onundercutting and "buying" customers with freebies, and your customers have come to expect that, so now you have a mess on your hands. Good! the economy works, lol.

Personally, I'll weather the storm. Have penty of cash, a stockpile of hide (that I hate to burn through, but will if I have to) and hunting is always an option if I must. My pricing is such that I can probably absorb a modest rise in cost of hide without raising prices and still have a healthy profit margin, and I will do that if it comes down to it. I do wish they would fix this for the sake of the scouting community, and of course I'd like the availability of hide to be robust, but if the effect of this is to drive a few deep discounters out of business, that is fine by me.

I have never seen massive amounts of hides, meat, orboneon the Galaxy Bazaar and am unsure why they did this (Corbantis). Even if they let scouts share the resources as they were it would have maybe put it on par with the amount of resources we see from harvesters! They are so concerned about the economy they are nerfing it before things are fixed and have hada chance to settle down. This one doesn't make sense in comparison to the other resource gathering methods that yield huge amounts of resources with little to no effort beyond paying the bills. I would rather get my 100% and share kills with my one or two friends I hunt with when they are on then take a 60% reduction (from my experience with small creatures). Why find someone else when I still get the 60% reduction one way or the other? It's not like the other scout is going to hand me over his loot, if anything when they fix this for solo's players won't want to group at all.

This is a nerf for scouts plain and simple with very little thought to the large picture. So lets say four scouts get together, overall four people might get more hides in total, but each one of them has less than they did before. Not to mention they raised all the costs of resources for scout items. So they got a double nerf and now we the buyers are feeling the pain or as in my case, not buying because it is to expensive.

They also arn't taking into consideration they did this to themselves. By putting scout as a prerequesite for the best fighting professions in the game everyone has the skill set or in some way has to have this skill set, but that doesn't mean they use it. Put brawling as a prereq for bounty hunters and watch the scout numbers drop a bit.

Even so this change was unnecessary and poorly thought out. In comparison to the other methods of resource harvesting this one is the most time consuming and totally dependent upon players being online playing. It doesn't make sense why they did this! Though from my perspective it appears that the developers are so concerned with putting sinks in the game they have lost sight of the big picture and forgot to fix the sinks that were supposed to be in already - Insurance and Cloning and Chefs!

Amazing, if you fixed Chef's you would have a huge sink on all the scout resources... instead of basically putting Chef's out of buisness except as a hobby.

Professions that use these resources: Artisan, Chef (Almost all food requires organics of some type), Medics, Scouts (They use them as well), Tailors, Armorsmiths, ?Bioengineers. That is a lot of professions that have some sort of dependency on this resource. Chef's will suffer the most from thischange though.

Never fear all !!!

Check out the Test Center release notes. The resource nerf on us scouts/rangers has been rescinded. The resources should begin to flow normally again very soon.

I'm afraid, Arthur, that you are quite mistaken. I do not have a mess on my hands, as I have very few truly loyal customers. Just today I made 8000 credits off of purchases... tell me how I now am in a mess? I believe that if you promote your craft you will win in the end. I also got 4000 credits in the mail from a very gracious person.

I believe it is the people who can charge 1500 for a smock that have a mess on their hands.

Not I.

The only problem is that scouts think they can just purge the Artisans of their money by setting these ridiculous prices for hides.. such an example would be:

Leathery Hide - 100 units....................... 3000
Leathery Hide - 100 units....................... 3000
Leathery Hide - 100 units....................... 3000
Leathery Hide - 100 units....................... 3000
Leathery Hide - 100 units....................... 3000
Leathery Hide - 100 units....................... 3000

Leathery Hide - 100 units....................... 3000
Leathery Hide - 100 units....................... 3000
Leathery Hide - 100 units....................... 3000

A man split up 1,000 units of hide and tried to sell each one for 3000. It is people like this that are putting stress on us, so I have to rely on friendly scouts I find in the city... which is quite seldom.

Regardless, I prevail.

Hereisthe flip side of this from the standpoint of a ranger.

I have seen a couple of posts lamenting the generally asocial tendencies of people like me, pointing out that more hides would be available if we just grouped more.

Do you realize that we would be hurting ourselves more if we grouped? At the same time that the hide harvest was changed, the ranger experience was also changed and the amount of resources needed to build camps was changed.

We need more of our own hides and we get even less if we group...what would you do?

The hide shortage doesn't bother me much. It'll be fixed soon, and even if it weren't, we'd just have to eventually adjust our prices to comepnsate. Honestly, if the Devs were serious about pulling some of the money out of the game world, they'd reduce resources altogether. It's incredibly easy to get 95% of the needed resources in the game, which pushes prices for all items down, and makes it so everyone can acquire every item they want (not need) easily, and still have plenty of money left over.

PeeyoNiba - If you don't care about money, that's your decision. But claiming that anyone who doesn't sell clothes for -less- than they could sell the bare resources for, are somehow cruel and mean to their customers, is ridiculous.

You're giving away items that never decay, and selling items for far less than you could. It's a terrible business model. If you don't care about that, again, that's your decision. But many tailors are selling items for much more than you, getting ZERO complaints, and a TON of happy and returning customers. How are they hurting anyone, as you claim?

So if I sell Uniform Boots for 1100, and you sell them for 275, and both of us sell plenty without any price complaints, the only difference between us is that I've made 4x as much as you for the same item. If you want to -give- away your time and money to strangers in hopes that they'll appreciate it, good luck to you. I prefer to deal with people that appreciate the time I spend on them, and think that a nice outfit is worth a mission or two. Then I have enough profit that I can give my time & money to my best customers and the people who heal my wounds and sell me the goods I want...

You posted elsewhere a complaint that someone is harassing you, begging for free high-level items... where do you think he got the idea that that might work?

Every singlesquall dropped ONE (1) hide today on Rori.

Problem is that hides are just NOT dropping anymore enough to be able sell "extras".

Yes, tonight I decided to try and get some hides, and I grouped with two friends andone of theirpets. We killed about 7 or 8 fambaas and got one hide each time. It was just depressing.

Hmm, but yet is it you who are whining about the hide prices and saying it is crippling your business, not me. Which is it? Are you hurting or flourishing? Is this price increase helping or hurting you? You seem very confused on this point.

I in fact do charge 1.5k for a smock, sold one just yesterday to a customer who absolutely loved it and told me he'd buy all his clothes from me from now on because he was so happy with the service (he ordered a complete new outfit that I helped him pick out and customize with the colors he wanted). And guess what? when the price of hides goes up I am much more capable of absorbing that extra cost. Even if hides were to go up 50% in cost, my price is likely to stay exactly where it is, my customers will perceive no difference unless things get really out of hand. You however, will have to explain to peoplethe 2x or 3x price increase you mentioned before and why they're suddenly not getting (*chuckle*) free clothes anymore. That is the price you pay for selling with such thin margins and using the give-away tactics that you use.
