I was going to be a Droid Engineer.

But then my Wife , who plays a Dancer , decided differently. And my buddy, a Bio Engineer, agreed with her and they pressured me into it.

To be honest, it suits me well .. except for the fact that I'm color blind and need the Wife to go all my color matching.

I like to make people look GOOOD!!

I also chose this profession because its the only one with real customization of your items. Once we get the BE components working properly and something to experiment on.. we will have the most unique goods by far of any profession.

I was in late beta testing. When I started out, the crafting stuff looked way more complicated than I wanted to deal with, and not much fun, so I just did Marksman/Brawler, not even figuring out that picking up Novice Scout would be a useful thing to do until late. Picked up Entertainer later too, for fun.

About the time that character was reset in a beta player wipe, I was starting to get bored. The combat wasn't exciting me all that much, and I didn't like grouping, and Entertaining was kinda fun, but it looked like *such* a chore to advance....

And I figured as a tester, I should probably at least dabble a bit in all the novice professions, so I started my new character as an Artisan - and found out that I loved it! Between surveying, crafting, and selling, there were lots of different interesting activities (and surveying and hunting for hides, bones, etc. got you out into the wilderness to see all the interesting critters who might want to eat you....) And within crafting, I quickly decided that the Domestic Arts stuff looked a *lot* more fun than making dozens of CDEF weapons and Bone Armor that required all sorts of resources and basically sucked anyhow.

And thus, I gravitated toward being a tailor, and kept at it!

I like to dress nicely and in beta it was hard for me to find clothing. I had a second beta account open up, so I dual boxed a tailor. I enjoyed it so I do the same thing in release.

For me tailoring is
1) Me looking good
2) Everyone else looking good.

That's why my prices are set at a modest (10-15%) profit. So everyone can get the look they want.

I remember saying, when we first picked up this game: "Eww. I am *never* going to be a Tailor."

And here I am now, working my gruelling way into Field Wear III, and having a fantastic time doing it. *grins*

Originally, I wanted to be a weaponsmith; usually I prefer combat, but RL circumstances see me afk on a frequent and unpredictable basis, and that is *bad* for combat. So I peeked at what was being said about crafting here, saw lots of things which suggested a viable economy (including the fact that, thank God, I can sell items while not logged on -- vital, since I only have a few hours a day if that), and knew it was for me. So... weaponsmith. But my group of friends already have one, so I select armoursmith.

And then, eventually, I try to sell a piece of bone armour, and find that I can't even *give* it away. This saps a bit at the whole 'whee, I'm a salesman!' appeal.

It's around this time that I notice it's incredibly hard to find a set of decent clothes in my town, and step into this wonderful opportunity.

And find, to my surprise, that tailoring is a lot of fun, and more rewarding than I'd ever expected. There's just something *satisfying* about haggling and designing and finally seeing someone trotting off in a set of my clothes -- and having his buddy come to me the next day saying he was referred.

...lord, but I did ramble on. *grins*

What started me in Tailoring was wanting to have good clothes to paly in and to provide clothing for my band mates and now we are opening up an entertainer guild and having a blast making clothes for everyone. My character is getting married in game and I'm determined to make everyones clothes in her wedding =) I can't wait.

I started out as an armorsmith, got up to Chitin 1 and Deflectors 3. Then I started in on tailoring and went up to field wear II... enjoyed it a lot more! Plus there are sooo many outfits to make, thousands of possibilities with colors and clothes. It also took less resource requirements ( as in a shield generator takes 10 different resources) and time to make one item.

I figured I would keep some armosmithing as a side income.. but once I hit Master Tailor I found out I could not make anything because of that bug. Soooo.. I dropped armorsmithing and became a full time tailor

I got addicted to tailoring back in beta when I was unhappy with the clothes available for my dancer character. The Rori bazaar rarely had anything worth the money people wanted for it. I asked a tailor about getting a pair of shorts, and she wanted 1000 cr for them! I looked at the skill tree and realized that the shorts were such a low level item that I could just make them myself after a few days work, and make them for the rest of my dancer friends at a much more reasonable price. So I went up do Dom Arts II and just got hooked.

He he. I think it's interesting how many of you say you like to change your outfit every few days. I change mine every half hour, typically. And if I get an ideafor something that might look good on me, I can immediately act on it, resources and time permitting (how many of you get mobbed with requests for clothes when you walk into town? Happens to me all the time).

It's that ability to change my appearance constantly that I love. IDs can do something of the same thing, but clothing is a more dramatic visual change in most cases and anyway,I like my hairstyle (thanks, Alexis of Lowca!) and facial features and body already; being able to do my makeup is plenty for me. Change clothing and, POW! People really notice you. It's also a lot of fun to be popular and help other people change their looks. So many players have next to no sense of color or visual style generally; it still surprises me how true that is.

Peer Pressure

When I hit master tailor in beta, I was the only one in town who had an established client list (the other 2 solely ground to master without selling and didn't know anyone once they got there). I was getting swamped with orders and then did something fun yet stupid. The last week of beta they started a "player event" thread, and I posted the loc of my house as a clothing tour with every tailor made item on display. Before I knew it I had people flying in from all across the galaxy to check out the clothes, and inevitably everyone wanted something once they saw them (the advantage of knowing all those credits in the bank will be deleted forever in a few days).

I figured things might be a little hectic that last week, but what I didn't anticipate was the sheer numbers of people wanting to know what server I'd be playing after release so I could make all their clothes again. That pretty much made the decision for me to do it all over again, with the added bonus that many of the friends I had in beta congregated on one server.

I am taking it much slower this time. Every day I see another master "insert crafting specialization here" drop out of society after being overwhelmed by demand they can't meet (and some of them handling it VERY badly before they make that decision). I consider myself fortunate that I had a chance to see the disadvantages of being "first" in beta and purposely decided not to rush through it this time. I'm still getting overwhelmed by orders; all the beta friends give referrals to anyone they meet, and I have a waiting list for certain items I don't have yeta mile long, but this time the pressure isn't nearly as bad. It's a lot better than those last days of beta I'd spend in my house for 12 hours straight because 3 more people would show up while I was trying to finish orders for the 2 already there.

I'm also having a lot more fun this time because I went human instead of Mon Cal. It was disappointing in beta that so many of the most popular sellers looked so hideous on me. Ever see a Mon Cal in a bikini?? If you haven't, trust me, you don't want to

I took Tailoring & Image Design because I know how much people like to look good and that with both I could tackle just about every aspect of people's looks. I mastered Image Design yesterday and im taking my time with tailoring so I don't "grind out". Getting casual wear III and being able to make Cloaks helps my finances out on a huge scale.and I love getting props on my keen sense of fashion. Color coordinating clothes for the more colorful species is heaps of fun as well!
My character is a zabrak. I often find that my tattoo clashes with my outfit as I love wearing nice loud yellows, bright blues, crazy oranges and purples sometimes then i like to change over to brown the next day. So what do i do? change my tattoo!

I don't think having just tailoring or just image design would be the same for me... I like having the whole package.
