Thread: A Question on Clothing Tags
I used to "brand" things that I sell back when I was a struggling novice trying to eek out a living on the bazar. I felt like if people got used to seeing that brand perhaps it would lead to more tells and more business and such. Plus I had fun making up goofy names for stuff, lol. Basically, I just tried to make people laugh. But once I reached kind of a maximum in terms of how much business I could handle, I just try to name clothing in the most "user friendly" way I can. For example:
Muscle shirt - black/white
There are a few exceptions however when I want to draw particular attention to the style of something. For example:
Belted "Jedi" Vest
or Warm "Santa" Hat
or Suit "Imperial" Jacket
stuff like that. But no, I no longer add anything else to my wares for the simple reason that I think it makes it easier to read both in someone's inventory and on the vendor.
Thank you for all the input. Figure that I'll probly just stick w/ what I have been doing which is leave out the name on the tag. I personally also don't change the name in any way except to add the color at the end and bio enhancements.
Muscle Shirt (Black/Gray) for example =)
Anyways, it saves me starting up some extra typing.... =P

Wow, that's outta hand, lol. I make items in green, blue, red, pink, orange, purple, white, black, grey, gold, brownand I think that's it. And yea, it drives me absolutely bonkers when a customer comes in and says I'd like that shirt in amethist, or something like that, lol. Now I know who to blame!
Well I'm not on Bria so you can't blame me! 
I get emails asking for an item in a particular named color, and I have to let the customer know that tailors name their own colors. Usually I can match the color in person, but I did get stumped by a "peach" once. I must have tried every color in the palette and eventually had to give up. I put the tailor who made the item on my friend's list - if she ever logs in I'm gonna ask her which color that was.
/ponders the significance of 42.

I tend to name it item name, and then the color in parentheses:
Wrapped Skirt (Red and Blue). The first color is always the predominant color of the clothing, and the second color is the less predominant. I don't put a whole lot of thought into it. I come up with a combination that I like, look at it, and whichever color grabs my attention first is the one that goes first.
I personally dislike the 'by so-and-so' deal in front of or behind the name as it's easy enough to see who made it.

Well, I don't care for it in front of the item name, as it throws off the sorting on the Bazaar and makes things harder to find. Especially on stims and such. But I have no problem with a tag after the fact - maybe because I do it myself? 
My little "by Ri'a" at the end isn't hurting anyone - can can easily be hidden by adjusting the column width.
Anyhow, to each his/her own.. I like signing my items and I think it's helped build name recognition. I gotta be honest and say I rarely bother to look at who made an item, but will remember crafters who tag their items.
Oh, and the # 1 reason to at least put a color in the description is to distinguish your item from the countless NPC dropped clothes in horrid colors. More of a tip for novice tailors who sell a lot on the bazaar than folks with shops, but it works.

Agreed, on both counts. I'm very much a 'less is more' type of person, so I avoid anything that doesn't /have/ to be on there to distinguish something, such as my name. Plus, I actually *encourage* merchants to come and buy my things and re-sell them (I'm also a master merchant, and do some of the same), and tend to like it when people keep to the base name with little improvement.
But ... to each his or her own by all means!
One of my pet peeves, however, is seeing colors with a numeric tag next to them indicating where that color is. When I get people who come to me and say 'I want Purple 42', I have to figure out what their former tailor's numbering convention was, then find the number myself, and it's more of a pain in the keister than me talking with the customer to find the right color. 
I actually mentioned to someone elsewhere that putting it on the end was better than putting it at the beginning due to sorting issues, and got a bit of a cold shoulder. It's nice to see I'm not alone in that thought!
I typically leave the default name of the item untouched in the beginning, for sorting purposes. Unless it's part of a set.
- "Pre-packaged" men's suits for example: *The Cavalier* Tuxedo Shirt, *The Cavalier* Tuxedo Longcoat, etc.
Adding colors, I try to be more specific. While I can't say which color/shade exactly, I can at least give a better hint for what color goes where.
- Muscle Shirt (Black with Blue accent)
- Decorative Vest (Green with Black sash)
And finally, I will add my "label"... not my name but my brand name, you could say. -EnoeTrend- I've only started doing this, mostly so people can tell quickly where it's from. I know everyone loves those radial menus, but sometimes in times of lag and stupid optical mouse relaspes, it's a hassle for me. Besides, most of our clothes are labelled with a brand name simply by looking. Levi's anyone? Although, I will admit that in real life, I refuse to buy shirts from Old Navy with their logo smack on the front (among other stores). But tons of people do! So why can't I?

I used to tag my items but I hated looking into my inventory and seeing names all over it. I know people resell my clothing but my name appears as object creator and many people buy something off the bazaar that bears my name and sends me a tell to fix it, make another, make a new one etc. I do not mind. I refuse to tag my items now. Many people are appreciative of that.

"peach" is what I call the lightest orange you can use, and that's actualy a good name for it.
and I ususaly use item name (color) or item name BE enhancement disc. (color)

Nah, it wasn't that color.. I think I have that as just yellow.. and I've seen it called peach before.
This was actually a more peachy color, warmer than the yellow. I tried just about every color on my palette but couldn't match it. I think the problem was it was a lekku wrap, and that has the shiny/gold texture that shows through.
Oh well, another great mystery for the ages.

I number my colors, left to right top to bottom, so there's a red 217, 216, 215, (214 stats getting pinky) and a red 244.
I tell everyone who has a custom fitting or who happens to be in the shop while I am how I label my clothes so that it's easy to have another tailor make coordinating items. However, I don't think that there's a 42 in a palatte that's purple, but I may be wrong...
