Thread: Two weeks later, Bio Clothing?

The question really was,,do critical failures occur more frequently with higher bonus clothing items or does it not matter,,
And since I only have experience with one bonus level ,,was attempting to get some response regarding other levels of bonus,,
You know I tried calculating the ratio of crit failures one day - actually did it for 3 days staight - there is no pattern as far as I can see. It did however, have more failures on one day then the other two. But not in any sequence I could determine.
The first day I did a public crafting station - The second day my own +14 and +13 crafting tool - The third day I used a PA station that was a +40. I had more crit failures on my own station then the other 2. The public had the least of them all.
The crit failures occured on all levels of tissues and all bonus types. It seems it occured more in the realm of D&D rules and more of a luck (or bad luck) of a draw.
I know this does not answer your question - I put the factory mod in as a suggestion to elminate at least one step of failures.
As a side note I had a conversation with a Doc at the shuttle port and on the same day I had a lot of crit failures, he told me he did as well.

i don't deal with bio-comps yet either... don't play my tailot enough currently to justify getting crates of the stuff and firing up my factory. i also don't have that many requests for them yet, so oh well
I sell them but try to limit them to my vendor only, honestly with all the restrictions taking custom orders for these is just a pita. ![]()
I sell ALOT of Active BS, then Stun/Melee, then Camo, then Bleed, then all the others. I sell them cheaper then others, possible because I only pay 2k per enhancer, so I cant bring myself to sell a +15/+15 shirt for 30k with a 27k profit.
Im sure I would sell more TKA cloth but trying to find a BE with some made is like pulling teeth.
Im pretty sure its +10.
So, for example a +11 bleed defense would be no better than a +17, unless you wore multiple enhanced items to push you into the next +10 block.
I could be totally wrong on this, but from skill boxes most things go up in +5 or +10 incriments.
So much is unknown that its hard to tell but this info would definently way heavy on a potential buyers mind, no?
At two weeks in, I'm penciling in deals to get master level BE tissues for around 1000 per tissue, with two different master Bio Engineers, and helping a third level up who's interested in offering them at the same price. I won't out any of them by name, because I know that if I do, the rest of you will be all over them like white on rice.
Before I even took delivery, a customer brought me some +16/+4 Tensile Resistance panels that he got from a Bio Engineer that he wanted built into a jacket. He told me that the Master BE charged him 900 credits per panel for them. And every where I go, I'm hearing stories of level II tissues going for 500 credits per tissue. (Don't disparage level II tissues, either. At that price, you can double the cost, add it on to what you normally charge for unmodified clothing, and therefore still sell bioengineered clothing for prices below the 3000 credit bazaar cap, and make money hand over fist from people who want a buff but can't afford master BE pricing.)
Don't budget your future based on 15,000 credits and up per panel. Those days are about to go the way of the 10,000 credit black duster, and good riddance. If you're a tailor and you resent being asked to pay over 400,000 credits for a single crate of tissues, keep asking around. Unless you're very unpopular, you'll find somebody else.
My husband and I started working on making some BE clothing this weekend. We bought up what we could on the bazzar to start experimenting then a friend asked about getting a specific outfit done. Well that's when we learned a whole lot more.
Such as the sythetic cloths can only add the components for entertainer, healers, chefsand CH's and the reinforced panels can only add bleed, melee, scent, cover etc
So when making clothing and someone brings you some random biological component they want added in, they can't be as picky as they'd like. There are a decent number of shirts and pants that you can use one component in but with only one I could not add a scent to a spec op jacket.
Then I also had to try to explain how idential components worked to these people asking because they just wanted to bring one or two random scent andmelee biological components or othersand have them added to a specific piece.
It was a learning experience for all parties involved and I just thank goodness everyone was very patient about it all.
I'm definately going to make a chart up to be able to say to people what can be placed onwhat items in case they want to provide their own components. Once I do get some crates the twi'lek's are in luck with their wraps being able to have components added.
The other thing we learned is even if you take two non idential components in different slots you cannot stack like to biosensors... the way another tailor explained to me is that you can't even have like a myoflex and biosensor on the same one. Is this true? Either way I'll test it out tonight and see with something I can find that takes two non idential cloths in separate slots.
Sooo much to learn ![]()
I agree with Songe.. being a bio-engineer isn't much fun. I have one on a second account that I made a while back with the idea of it being complementary to my tailor. The amount of trouble I go to just to make some halfway decent pet stims makes me realize I don't want to deal with tissues at all. Just the amount ofmaterials to make a few crates of them would be depressing. I doubt I'll give up BE, mostly cause I worked so hard to get there.. but I'll probably focus more on the creature side of the profession. I don't mind being a veterinarian. Of course, with the CH changes coming.. who knows what the future will hold.
I've sold probably half to 3/4 of my initial purchase of BE tissues. I haven't had much demand at all for the melee ones (stun/melee, bleeding) but did better with the injury/wound treatment and mask/camo. I didn't market it at all, because I had such a limited supply of tissues. Even now with a vendor set up for just BE items, the demand is light. I will continue to stock some as a convenience, but I'd rather make my living selling the regular clothes.

All is going well, sales are good and steady. Injury and Wound treatment clothing is by far the most popular one.
Cool that you're able to get tissues at that low a price, that's quite the deal. The BE isn't even charging you cost on those, which is pretty amazing. I can't help but question the long-term viability of such a deal however. I think that you not offering to pay them a more reasonable sum is probably jeopardizing your long term relationship with them because as you mention it's only a matter of time before a tailor comes along and pays double to triple and then this will make you look foolish, but that's just my opinion, do with it as you will. I have a lot of supplier relationships with people myself (doctors and rangers mainly, and I've supplied other tailors with tissues too) and I try to make sure I pay them at or above "market level" just so that I keep that relationship working longer-term. I've even told some people I'm willing to pay above their asking price just to make sure they're taken care of and have plenty of incentive to work with me, but that's just me. But in any case, it's impressive that you were able to make such a deal.
As far as BE being fun, I really like it actually. It's about 180 degrees from tailoring which make them the perfect combo imho. Tailoring is cool but I can only stand maybe an hour or so a night of "wall to wall customer orders" before I have to get out and do something different and BE is just the ticket. Getting DNA samples, making critters, exploring, hunting, it's a blast, plus they are going to be greatly increasing the number of critters we can make plus allowing color customization which is also cool.
As far as the difficulty of making pet stims, not really sure what you're talking about there. Easy as pie actually. Put a fungus harvester on talus, buy ABECs, CDRMs, and ALS (actually make my own ALS, but could easily buy them too) throw them in a blender with fiberplast which you already certainly harvest (or buy) as a tailor, and you have a revenue source that will net you 100's of k a week even after expenses. Very little trouble actually.
re: making pet stims
I've been making all my own advanced subcomponents. I have a resource seller for a neighbor so I haven't had to harvest off-planet yet. I actually started making pet stims for the exp - my tailoring business is a far greater source of income, and a heckuva lot easier. I played around with the advanced subcomponents last week and got some nice stims so started selling some of those. I have a vendor for pet meds, but have been far more successful on the Theed bazaar. I haven't found anyone selling advanced subcomponents yet - have asked around a bit but haven't had any luck. Definitely would be easier to buy them than make them!
I like the "field work" part of being a bio-engineer, and I like making creatures. I also invested quite a few points in medic (going for master medic) and enoy being the healer for a group or stopping by the med center to heal some wounds. I just find the crafting a bit annoying - maybe I'm just spoiled since tailors don't have to worry about resource quality. :-)
Anyhow, I wasn't meaning to "diss" bio-engineer at all - just more making the point that I'm much more likely to buy tissues (even after I get to master on my 2nd account) just because I don't enjoy the resource side of it that much. I paid 45K - 95K a crate for my tissues, and had no problem with that at all.
At this point in the game, I'm more about doing what I enjoy rather than maximizing how much money I make off BE clothing. :-)
