Thread: A Swordsmans view of Jedi

I haven't had any oppurtunities to fight a jedi one on one. On my server unless there's like 4 guys it's hard to PvP. So it starts out me and 3 other guys and a group of like 7 guys come around then they die because they spread out and don't attack 1 person at a time. Then they rebuff and get 2 jedi. It's terrible. My view on them is that people are too dependant on them for attacks even though they aren't that good. Sure they just run up to a rifleman and slice him in half but once I am standing there they have to stand and fight, which they hate, so they run away. Add that to the lag and I get like 2 hits in on them.


From my observations, I think it is too unbalanced to be in the game right now. Thankfully though since they took away the FRS on non jedi it got a little better with this.

BUT...jedi are combat balanced....other proffessions arent yet.

i got a really nasty nasty feeling that come the combat rebalance there will only be one combat class...and thats jedi wether for pvp or pve.

If you read the Star Wars books, you would know that there is a precedent for a Teras Kasi Master defeating Jedi in combat. The TKM's name was Phow Ji. Those books are excellent reads by the way....

strangely enough, people actually seem to agree on this issue. My opionions are the same, to good against ranged, to weak against melee.

I hope not... But we'll see once the sandbox comes up, I'll try my best to keep swordsman viable

Yes i've slayed my share of jedi, but once they get up there, they are extremly tough. What makes me mad is how they heal while knockedown....like you have them dizzy/kd, and they just push a button all their bars refill and status effects are lifted. Dunno, not fair to me, i'm doc and its pretty tough to get a dizzy cure off before you hit the ground when fighting one (not def stacker, master swords/master doc 5 lines FS). And we know what great def vs. dizzy (or other defenses) swordsman offers.


[edit] True, i agree about the Jedi being more resistant towards ranged, melee is the way to go.


Jedi are tough, butbeatable,

good effectiveness sliced PSG,

sweet buffs ( i'm master doc, sporting 2.78k buffs in med center towns).

Stim E's

Ent.Buffs

Food/Spices (just in case)

Intimidate, and assortment of Pu'ed Weapons.

makes you good to go : )


But

The problem comes in the zero armor piercing, they have a hard time PVE wise, killing stuff from what I hear, a Mob w/ Heavy armor adds more beef even w/ vuln. i believe, opposed to a rifleman's ap3 or swordsman. correct me if i'm wrong, just what i've heard.

The questions really ought to be:


1. Why are swordsmen and other melee professions so overpowered?

2. Why are ranged professions so weak?

3. Why are Jedi even in the game?

1) melee profession isnt over powered, they are against range IF they are close up, and thats excatly how it should be. melee fighters cant throw thier weapons from 64meters to the eye as much as it would amuse me to do so.


2) range profession are weak because so many are broke. Rifleman for one certainly isnt weak, if they play at range which btw is what range fighter should do. Keeping distance is part of the range fighter player skill, if a player lacks that it is not the game's fault.


3) i assume it is because of the sale, apart from that i dont really know, only hope swg doesnt turn into jedi knight battle online

Have you ever fought a carbineer/BH with a halfway decent weapon? cripplingshot has the same damage mod as adv strafe, with a 700+ max laser carbine a carbineer/BH can take down a melee stacker pretty damn fast... 1500 damage/sec is a **edit** especially when you don't have 2k heals...

I've played a rifleman since launch, I don't PvP, because I'm not interested in having to obtain the best weapons/armor in the game plus get dancer-singer-doctor-smuggler-chefbuffs just to have fun,then on top of thathave to worry about teenage gank-squads, as well as getting my bikesblown up, I have no idea how people find thatfun.


What I see as a PvE player is a virtual void of any ranged profession besides rifleman or bounty hunter. I can literally go a week of playing before I see a mastercarbineer tag.


What I see in PvE is swordsman soloing 5 enraged rancors at once. I can solo one enraged rancor at a once, and even then I find myself running backwards a lot in order to escape being hit for 900.


Lets look at the things swordsman can solo and ranged classes can't (I'm leaving out Rifleman conceal shot for the time being becuase of it's low damage and situational use).


1.Geo caves

2. Nightsister Protectors, Spell Weavers

3.Lord Nyax

4. Any Krayt besides juvenile

5. Enraged Rancor lairs without even flinching

6. Giant Kimos


I'm sure others can add more to this list. You mentioned strafe and crippling shot. These shots are cone attacks, not a true AOE attack like melee fighters get, this is a huge advantage. I've been outdamaged by swordsmen plenty of times when using strafe 2, and I don't use a gimped T-21.


You can complain about how you don't get any raged mitigation, but lets face it, any npc or creature worth a damnin this game wants to beat you to a pulp, not shoot you with a gun. Combat in this game is so fubar'd it's beyond description, if I see one more suit of composite armor or power hammer I'm going to barf. Combat in this game is not even close to what the Star Wars movies portrayed.
