Thread: The done turned SWG into EQ

The game was never meant to be a solo game to begin with.... hence the term MMORPG. The second M stands for Multiplayer in case you forgot
If I wanted to play a solo game, I'd be playing through Final Fantasy, or Zelda, or some FPS game, not an MMO... that's not the purpose of the MMO.
The Devs never expected crafted armor to be as good as it is now. For those of us that have been playing since launch, remember when the real good resources starting spawning? Twelve point smiths were able to make armor with 100% resists. Almost immediately, armor crafting was capped at 80% because players were never meant to be undestructable, but for the most part, they still are.
One of my favorite things about playing WoW and some other games was the fact that I couldn't just walk up to 10 NightSisters and kick their ass... I could take 2, maybe 3 if I was lucky, and even then, there's always a chance that you would die. It brought a lot more excitement to the game that just doesn't exist within SWG as it currently stands.
I agree, I've been swordsman well over 7 months and I have soloed everything this game has to offer, with the exception of the Ancient Krayt, with ease. I can sit on dathomir and kill NS after NS, Krayt after Krayt with the only reprocussion is armor decay and weapon decay (now removed with ADK). I remember back in the old days, grouping up for fort tusken and even then we mainly were slaughtered, it was fun! It was a challenge! It meant I had to keep trying if I wanted to attain my goal... not now, now i just spam F3 for a few seconds and my goal is accomplished.
I do see your point about EQ/EQ2, although I have never played either (this is my first MMPORPG) I do look forward to the change as it will mean i have to learn my skills again, and I'll have a challenge once again which means fun. I look forward to these changes as I hope it will mean more fun for everyone.
Also remember, there's a reason its going to test center first, its to TEST it, if we dont like something, voice your opinion there BEFORE it goes live, thats the only way we will get the system thats best for everyone. Doomsayers, Naysayers and general negativity towards something that has not been released wont help the community one bit, lets get to together and work on this, lets make it the system we want. Go to test center, work the system, voice your concerns on the TC forums where the devs actually read, in a constructive manner. It really disparages me to read all the "I quit, Im leaving" threads about this when we havent even seen it yet.
Myself, I'm an engineer in rl, we test things, we make our concerns known, things get changed for the better and we go back to testing until the product is working just as we want it to. Lets do this for the CURB, lets be constructive and help everyone make this game more fun for everyone.
Thank you.
P.S. These are my opinions, I know not everyone may share the same views as myself.

Well a combo for soloing early in the game was swordsman and CH granted it wasn't nearly as good as Swords/doc but should you as a swordsman/doc really be able to kill full grown kryats?
Maybe im a bit crap, but im a master swords/doc and ive never been able to take out a krayt,i really havent.
Of course, it comes as a detriment to us.

In less populated servers is harder to get people to group. And also you have to think that not everyone has the same schedule. When I'm on there are at least 10 people I know on, if I go to Bestine, Coronet, Mining Outpost, they are empty not a single soul other than AFK dancers in the cantinas. If I will not be able to have fun because I cannot survive by myself, and at least have the opportunty to kill a Juvy every once in a while like I've been doing (and to tell you the truth I have been killed 5 out of 10 times when I go kill juvies. Being an Architect/Swords, I don't have a lot of defense and the healing is not that great.).
If this is not possible after CU, I'll just say bye to the game.
I already lost the luster, the only thing keeping me are the friends I have made. However, with some of the changes (like the Doctor), 13 of my friends already cancelled their accounts, they will stop logging by the next two weeks. That will make my list of active friends close to 5. I feel Doom coming to this game.
Somehow I just kinda get the impression that this "open beta" going to be just to shake out gamebreaking bugs and less concerning balance, and the uploading of the CURB to TC is essentially just there to give us an idea of what's going to happen whether we like it or not.

For one i liked the forced grouping it gets boring hunting by yourself.
for you perhaps and yes sometimes even for myself...
it's the being forced to that is unacceptable. for whatever reason (availability, log-in time, desire etc) one should be able to play how they like when they like except for high-end content. Making things take vastly longer is also very ditsressing. No wonder they dropped shuttle and buff times etc. Instead of taking 15 mins to buff and ready for combat now you'l spend all your time spamming for partners so you can run a 10K mission. oi!

No, no worries there.
It changed to 8.

Time to tweak things? It's 35 days now until they're scheduled to go live on this thing or they'll be breaking a publicly stated deadline and threatening a Lucasarts grab at spilloff cash from Ep3 moviegoers.

Well i was trying to sound optimistic, lol
But i agree 100% with you,the film is this games last big free marketing push, and thats what the CU is all about, marketing, and sod us,the players

This is exactly the reason I left EQ2 to come back to SWG. I had reached the stage (very quickly) that advancement was simply not a viable option without a group, and running round and around shouting "lvl 17 rogue LFG" for 30 - 40 minutes gets old really fast.
I applaud the idea of making grouping-up more fun. I applaud the idea of having specific roles within a group. I applaud the idea of making some of the MOBs achievable only through group attack.
I despair at *forcing* people to group. I despair at the idea of *having* to have a specific combo in a group, a la EQ2. I despair at the thought of the majority of the MOBs being made group/raid only.
WRT some of the other changes -
The warm-up/cool-down idea of attacks I like...not too happy about the animations/particle effects for them though.
Auto-attack needs to come back. Yes, I know that you can ctrl+click to repeatedly perform an attack but that doesn't quite cut it, Incidentally, was that explained in the player tutorial? I stupidly forgot to select "show new player tutorial" when I started so I don't know what new info is in that.
If there is no stat migration any more why are new characters greeted with the stat migration spiel before you select a starting point?
The new icons.....undecided as yet, I initially didn't like them, they didn't seem to "fit" with the rest of the game, but that may just be reaction to a new thing.
Having the person/group that did the most damage get *all* the XP is a recipe for griefing unless you are going to borrow more from EQ2 and lock encounters.
As has been said in numerous other places, the damage done by newbie mobs needs to be looked at. 2 or 3 hit incaps from the lowest mobs in the game does not fill one with confidence.
