Well, I'm Master Squad Leader Master Pistols Novice Doc. I went doc because IMO you need drag as a SL, you need to be able to go Combatant at any time.I use a Featherweight FWG5, and Rebel Assault armor, my accuracy is sitting at 197 my speed at 221 (when using a pistol)and my Ranged def 234 melee def 229.
I have all the support from MSL and some extra minor support from novice Doc. ButCaji is a offensive powerhouse, with her pistol and her AA'd Rebel Assault armor she has a DPS of 996 and the SAC on teh pistol is only 66. I've managed to IMO have my cake and eat it too

im thinking about MSL/Mrifles/ and dont know what to do with leftovers, any opinions ?

3 quick options:
Carbine 0440 - Good general accuracy mods, nice defenseand KD


Pistoleer 0404 -nice general Accuracy,good defense, root and delay attacks


BH 0440 - nice mix of acc, speed, and defense, along with KD, AoE, and powerful attack to couple with headshot.

ok lemmie just point oput a few things from your inane conclusion


one this was a test concerning the FOOD which is know to not e working properly atm


second if ranged def worked against melee and ranged weapons when using a ranged weapon WHY WOULD A RANGED ONLY PROFESION OFFER MELEE DEFENSE you conclusions are unsubstantiated , uneducated and just plain WRONG wake up and get a clue B4 u try to flame me

First: I don't think that _scout_ had any intention to flame you. If you felt offended by what he wrote, i have to be very careful now, as you seem to be somewhat sensitive.


Second: You ask why a ranged profession has melee defence... the answer is, because the way the system currently works is a bug. According to skill description, melee defence works vs. melee attacks and ranged defence works vs. ranged attacks. Unfortunately it seems like this at some time of coding was mixed up, might be that this is just one mixup of variables at one place of the code which results in the observed behaviour.


Anyways, currently melee defence means "defence when holding a melee weapon" just like carbine defence means "defence while holding a carbine". I assume that the variable naming is along those lines, so i wouldn't be surprised if somebody would add "ranged defence" into the formula when holding a ranged weapon, instead of checking for the way of incomming attack.


In terms of pure programming, the naming conventions even make more sense in the currently observed system, while the original intentions and still present descriptions of the modifiers make clear that it's actually a bug.

You may be correct. I'd suggest we all go test this a little with and without foods. Galaxies players tend to jump to conclusions and go with the group mentalitiy easily. I'm not sure who's correct in this case but I think I need to do some testing on my own. This is a fairly complicated, and sometimes notvery intuitive,combat system. For me to really be convinced I'm just going to have to see it myself...

I edited my post again, to make it more clear, but since I like to repeat my self, I ll do it and clutter this thread with more off topic news :

The thread started with testing the melee and ranged food buffs but if you read further you'll see that they discover this to be true for SEAs and then on page two also for the overall defense mods.

This would be the problem, it is basing the defense checks on the attacked.player.weapon instead of attacker.player.weapon.

That is oversimplification but most like what is happening and a swithc should be made to base the defence calculation off of the attacker's weapon instead of the attackee's weapon.
Probaly a typo erro or cut and paste error in the code that handle the calculation




Still no word from the DEVs regarding this though.

do special attacks work with commando weapons ? for example, could i use stopping shot(pistoleer) with rocket launcher and get an AOE root ?

Aye... that's the one thing where Commandos currently are great at... transforming single target states into area states.

ooooh yess, and it is glorious


Nothing pleases me more than a pack of rooted jedi twiddling their thumbs while they're picked off one by one...


This is really the biggest, if not only, strength of commando right now: the ability to make any states from specials aoe.


I'm not sure if the rocket launcher works for this though. Try the PFT and the acid stram launcher I believe.
