Its true with MSL, and CM your targeted in group pvp. I avoid this by not wearing my Proff tags. I am MSL, MBH, and cm 4000. All my proffs are big targets in group pvp. The jedi love to take out a Bounty Hunter, and everyone takes out the SL, and/or CM. I choose to stay true to BH and hide many things. This seems to help a bit. In group pvp people dont have much time to examine you and see what you really are lol.

For those who are power hungry try this templet....MBH/MSL/CM Distance Healing 4
With this templete, you get all the benefits of grouping with MSL, plus weapons designed just for MSL, plus you can still act in a support role with distance healing, and to top it off you can still have all the advantages of MBH plus the weapons associated with that profession.
For added bonus...for those that like to base bust....you kill two profession requirements with one stone.
The downside is that you really are a target in group missions particularly if you are doing any healing and tanking at the same time so your armor will take a hammering. The hardest part of mastering both BH and SL is the large amount of Combat XP you have to have, but it is offset by the fact the you are just as leathal in solo as you are in a group. You also have to be careful with your mind pool, as using bacta throws or shots and any SL buffs will take its toll on you quickly. Although not impossible, but very dangerous, is using BH/SL/CM skills all at once...simply because your HAM bar will stay drown down as well as the hammering your amor is going to take.
I use this for myself and find rather fun in either groups or solo missions. It is a challenge to keep your HAM from becoming a tattered waste of uselessness as well. Overall, it is a very rewarding templete, with what I think to be the most versatile as well.
I run with MSL/MCarb and NoviceBE.The BH for basebusting you find cheaper in the dozen, the BE you find almost never. Anyways, despite sacrificing some points into BE, i tend to win most 1on1 even, as long as not standing up against Jedi.
And in group it's just pure fun. Full auto area as default, everything else is "tactical choice" and helping the team out by putting volley fire on the premium target.
Recent testing has shown that your defense is determined by the weapon you are holding. So with a rifle, it would be your ranged defense + your rifle defense. That is your defense against everything, melee or ranged attacks.... Holding a sword, it would be your sword + melee defense against everything.
Logic would hold that your ranged defense would be against ranged attacks and your melee defense against melee... but I guess either the Devs know not logic or its bugged. ![]()

Current testing in the game shows that:
- Melee Defense is your Defense against Melee AND Ranged attacks when you have a Melee weapon equiped
Ranged Defense is your Defense against Melee AND Ranged attacks when you have a Ranged weapon equiped
This thread started as testing ground for the ranged food (to increase the defenses against ranged attack) which the jedi were experiencing as not working but while testing on this subject was done, they found out that the understanding of melee and ranged defense is totally different as we thought.
In my personal opinion I think this is a bug, and that during coding somebody mixed up two variables.

lol id like to know what your smoking considering since my melee def is LOWER than my ranged def i ALWAYS take more damaged from melee attacks which ive experiance in combat on a regular basis and as for the food there buggy atm and thats a known issue
