Thread: Goodbye I Quit SL Correspondent Position

I never said he was in that position. But it is awful convenient for them to have an arbiter in between so they never have to make promises eh? You're waiting on ashes and dust, my friend.
Sarcastically "convenient"? Yes. But also quite undertandable. I'd rather have Thunderheart, who is pretty friendly and "one of us"--"from a certain point of view...", out and mixing things up with us, than pulling the devs from actually writing code so they can sift through the mire of negativity on the forums hoping to glean a pearl of good ideas. From a selfish Squad Leader perspective, since we've gotten NO dev love up to this point, it's easy to say that any system would be better than the current. From the the standpoint of game development overall, however, it just makes good sense and I applaud SOE for the forward thinking in this matter.
That is still no excuse for telling the gaming community that SWG will focus on teamwork and interaction between players and professions, and then failing to make the ONLY profession in the game that is solely concerned with teamwork and interaction anything more than the very weakest in the game. The oversight that has happened with Squad Leaders is an absolute travesty, and you'll get no argument from me there. Still, we musn't let anger turn to hate, for that is the path of the Dark Side... "Consume you it will."
Salute tomon Capitan. Thanks for all your work and for hanging in there for us all this time. It's can't have been easy bearing all of our frustrations upon your own shoulders. But I guess your ability to do sofor all these many months is why you signed on as Squad Leader correspondent of all things. You have my gratitude and blessings, buddy. May fairer winds fill your sails.
Say it ain't so, Joe!
To be honest, I'm amazed that it took so much to get you to quit. You've been the SL's greatest supporter, and it's a shame that things went down the way they did. SOE doesn't know what a big loss this is.

Don't worry, I did. ...and I made sure to note that I don't want to contribute $15 a month to help pay TH. Account expires today!

I cannot blame you in the slightest for quitting. I just hope, if you're also quitting the game, you sent them the longest and most foully worded post you could think of before you did so. They deserve it.
Capt. V,
Thanks for all of your hard work! I amshocked at how badly you were treated by TH. He ought to be ashamed of himself. I have certainly lost a great deal of respect for him. Since the beginning, I have been very impressed with how patient and positive about the profession you have been, whenwe hadabosolutely no reason to be.When many SLs (myself beingincluded) were calling on you torant, you remained professional and positive.
Your successor will have some very big shoes to fill.
I hope you enjoy the free time. Good luck.
/salute
Thanks for sticking with it as long as you did Cap. I hope in the end it does at least look good on your resume or something. You should certainly get something out of all the time you put in.
Regardless of what TH might say, it is his job, not yours, to gather that data. You are an aide as far as the paid employees of SOE are concerned, and if he was too damned lazy to click on a link or spend 5 minutes reading one of your many detailed reports... well, all that means is his attitude toward SLs is the same as anyone else at SOE. His willingness to pin the fault on you and not work to get the data only serves to clarify SOE's utter lack of interest in fixing SLs. They can have kiddy fights on their own time but, as far as I'm concerned, while they're still at work they're obligated to work on professions that don't workwith or without thecorrespondent program.
Having said that, you did a great job Cap. Above and beyond the call of duty. I wish it could have worked out better, both for your sake and for all the people that are still SLs. I'm afraid your endeavor was doomed from the start, andwill continue to be doomed. By the time they get around to working in this forsaken profession, they'll have to do it all by themselves. Noone will be left but the most die-hard role-players that insist they're leading their squads. It's not as though this is the first time SLs were left out on changes that should have encompassed this profession, and they don't have excuses for those. History teaches us that our best hope is that we get stepped on and maybe things will be better after they scrape us off the tarmac. The xp thing worked out... I guess. Eventually.
I actually have a hard time blaming TH for this as well. He is just one man. Maybe he should have kept emotion out of his dealings, but with the GCW and Jedi in the state they're in, where could he even find time to deal with more than one profession's issues? In the end, it's TH's boss that's to blame, or however far up it takes to get people hired. Someone up there is too busy shovelling our fees into their bank account/new games/pay-for-contentto hire enough employees to take care of this game. Every one of us is shelling out the same amount monthly to play. These companies continueto think they can supportsuch massive gamesthat produce such massive revenue monthly on a skeleton crew without even finishing the game during Beta, let alone responding and resolving issues as they come up within a reasonable time-frame.
All we can do is not pay them, and, as a stormtrooper would say if there were any in this game, "Move along".
Abiram: no offense, but you underestimate the value of games. It's a hobby that the typical player participates in for years. It's not a substitue for live interaction for most people but an extension of it.I read a very enlightening piece oncewritten by someone who'se disabled niece found a lot of happiness through online gaming. It's also a service which people pay for on an ongoing basis, and they deserve a certain amount of quality for their money. When they aren't getting it they have as much of a right to be upset as a customer in any other non-critical indusrty. Like comics, or the fantasy and science fiction genres, games have a fallacious reputation for being the province of children and the undereducated. In fact a great many of the players here have families, full time jobs, one or more advanced degrees, and real lives. Many of the writer, designers, and coders for these genres are among the best and brightest of their generations. If you look into designing and building computer systems the processing power required bygaming as opposed to business applications will give you a hint as to the depth and complexity of these mere games.
Captain /salute, good luck in your future endeavors. For a volunteer you put out a lot of effort, put in a lot of your time, and allowed yourself to be passionate about the project. You were rewarded with long periods of ignorance, misdirected anger from the player base, and ultimately some significant insults to your intelligence. You deserved better and so did everyone paying for the privilege of beta testing the SL class.
SL's are being ignored on purpose. There aren't enough of us (because the class sux) to make a huge monetary difference to SOE even if we all just quit and played something else. Therefor we don't count. That is to say relatively speaking we count to an insignificant degree. Actions speak louder than words and there have been no actions to improve this situation. It's a shame because a game is a work of art and this one is flawed in ways that cannot be ignored by people playing through major aspects of it, which should long since have been addressed,- at least in part. Our correspondent, and by extension TH are simply placebos which are there to keep hope alive while we pay our monthly fees and they work on more important issues like junk vendor functionality. I appreciate the optimism and exuberance of Thulium, but I will require significant convincing that they haven't hand picked someone based on his level of fandom and unsubstatiated faith in the dev team.
In the end yes, it's just a game. A game which many thousands of people are currently paying for on an ongoing basis. They deserve to be treated in a reasonable manner and to feel as if the product that they receive delivers on it's promised content. How many squad leaders can say that they got what they thought they were paying for? Whataction can you point to that proves that SOE cares about validating the support of the many SL's out there who have been hanging on for all of this time?

Nah....They "hand picked" me because I was insomniatic that night and was "first." ![]()
..If they were handpicking based on fandom and unsubstantiated faith in the devs, I would have been picked for beta. ::grumbles::
