What actually happened doesn't really matter. The fact that the CSR somehow believed the SL in question was spamming obscene numbers of SL commands is what matters. It seems most people here are upset that Squad Leaders are once again getting in trouble for spamming our abilities. But this isn't the case. A single player was punished for spamming 17 commands a second, not for SL-related spam.

You can, of course, be upset if you believe the CSR was incorrect and that the player was indeed not being unreasonable in his ability use. But do not tie this event to the previous incidents involving SL spam.

OMG are you the most underinformed individual here or what?

GET THIS THREW YOUR HEADS! THE SL WAS NOT SPAMMING 17 COMMANDS A SECOND!!! If you still think, for any reason that the SL in question was spamming the commands 17 times a scond, just go look at the SS, it says plain as day how fast the spamming was occuring, once every 2 seconds on the /shouts and once every second on the form ups! The SL was using a macro to eliminate states that macro was:

/formup;

/pause 1;

/macro formup;

That is it, if this macro makes the SL spam every 17 seconds then that is an in game bug that has NEVER been mentioned before, and as far as I am concerned does not exsist.

Once again, forget the every 17 seconds thing, cause that is not what the SL was doing, PERIOD!

Lastly, considering the FACT that a SL can get banned for running the aforementioned macro, while fighting in PvP, what is a macro that a SL can run and not get banned for on every planet and in ever city?

For god's sake Dev's answer this one little simple question please? And no more comparrisons to 120 MPH car chases like in the SS!!!

You completely misunderstood my point. And I find it funny that you consider me uninformed when you're the one who spells "through" as "threw".

I understand that the player in question did not actually spam 17 commands a second. However, the CSR who responded to the situation clearly did, and this is what led to the player's eventual suspension.

Again, I'm not saying the player deserves this suspension. I think it's reasonably clear that something else was going on during the encounter with the CSR which somehow convinced the CSR that the player was using absurd amounts of spam. The player and his/her guild (which I assume you're a part of?) have every right to be upset. I merely wish to point out to the regular SL's here that this is not another case of a player getting in trouble simply for using multiple SL commands. This has happened often in the past, and it appears that most SL's have jumped on this bandwagon and assumed that the same thing happened here. But they're all wrong.

From SOE's point of view, a player was spamming an absurd and vastly unacceptable number of commands, and was suspended for that. SOE's POV is what matters to the SL community. If reasonable use of our skills was not responsible for the suspension, then we as a community have nothing to get upset about. The individual is of course granted the right to be upset, especially in this case being that he is innocent, but there is no need for a community outburst.

For my two cents, I'll say that it's nice to come to agreements about fair use of such and such rate of commands or whatever. Really, I'm all for constructive negotiation. The problem is more along the lines of what can be expected during in-game fighting. Does it matter really what went on, the cute details of this particular SL's nasty reaction (who knows--we're not all 30 years old here) to the CSR's orders to change their behavior? To me, it doesn't at all, because you can't expect someone to temper their fighting instincts to survive with crap like "no more than 2 commands per blah blah". I'm lucky enough to have the SILENT /tellpet command, or I'd probably be the victim of this misguided 'moderating' team.

Please don't tell me that changing this horrid functionality is non-trivial. I may not be the uber-elite-experienced class of developers that they have at SOE, but I've programmed enough to not be this naive. Either that, or the design of this game is truly obfuscated.

Structure to avoid latency, spamming, etc should be a part of the GAME, not the player's list of rules. That's not always easy, but in this case it is very easy--don't have the commands shout. In the meantime, don't bog players down with rediculous rulings on things like this. We've got enough to worry about with crap like walking 100m back to our bikes every day.

CSRs and Forum Admins,

Thank you for suspending that account. I'm sick and tired of seeing these spammers in starports. You are doing a great job by dealing with these problem accounts.

Sigh. You're just going to start a heated debate; this falls very close on trolling in my opinion. With the Squad Leader community here waiting for official word on this, posting this was not a smart or thought out choice. With the extremely low number of Squad Leaders in this game (I would bet a steak dinner that there are more Jedi than Squad Leaders) I really don't believe you've seen Squad Leaders "spamming" in starports all too often. Don't blame the guys playing the game, blame the AFK advertisers in Coronet and Theed. They're the ones drastically slowing down the starports, not us.

I have never seen more than two Squad Leaders in any battle, and I have never seen both running a macro. Even if they were, that's two people "spamming." Look around Coronet and Theed; there's about ten to twenty people there shouting and whatnot.

Honestly.

Ok... guys.

This is no longer a Squad Leader issue.

The part that was has already been discussed and sent to the devs.

Unless you have anything more to say about how SL can be improved or how a situation similar to this can be prevented, please stop bringing up the samepoints over and over.
