Tiggs will probably be back, she is good about making the rounds again (even though it has been a while.)

The most telling thing about this thread is that in about a weeks time it has garnered a grand total of 56 responses (to this point.) Kind of says it all.

What attracted me to be a Squad Leader was everyone I worked with. I started SL neutral and by the time I got MSL I was an Imperial. People I worked with (tusken fort, bunker, then imperial missions) said I was a good leader. I pay attention and do what I can. Protect the doc, shoot the same target, apparently these ideas were not common sense to everyone.
I kept MSL for a good many months. I think around Publish 7 I dropped it. Jedi were popping up everywhere, and a growing hatred for them led me to become a BH and stop them. However, i still check these forums once in a while and always give a /cheer to any MSL I see. It's the most social profession I've found after the entertainers. It tells people you have led many groups, and to be a master tells them you are very good at leading groups. I think this is why SL has survived as long as it did, just because its so dang respectful!
I hope to go back in the revamp, although I will continue to hunt the jedi threat longer still.

What a load...

I really have to agree with you guys on this. I've been watching these "tiggs" posts in some forums, and if I were a SL, I'd simply be insulted.

Thisthread is a sad attempt...........at anything.

I'm sorry for any of you SL's.

Sorry you feel that way. It has been very hectic with the launch of JtL right around the corner. Not to mention 33 profession forums, literally over 100 other forums and endless private messages, it takes a while to make the rounds.

Reading through all of the posts strikes up memories of how excited I was when starting my character and making my way up the ladder. I know it is frustrating when you get to a certain point in a game and think man, this isn't what I expected out of this profession or bugs become major issues to you. I made this post with the hopes that it would bring back the good memories and possibly help you remember just what you do like about your profession.

Tiggs, sorry to bring this up, but we were told that JTL did not take any of the resources from SWG.

Yet here you say its been hectic from the JTL launch.

Of course, given SOE's record of lying this comes as no surprise to me.

Stuff dont make sense you know?

The squad leader proffession has had ZERO attention from the devs since launch. Its the least used proffession and by large, the most useless. Matter of fact I cant even remeber grouping with a squad leader in nearly a year...and bear in mind I play in Bria, biggest population server there is.

You want to know what the Squad Leader proffession is expected to be?

In my view (and yes, i have been master squad leader) the SL proffession should have 2 elements of 'leadership'.

It should devote 2 skill branches to player-only 'leadership' skills. This means skills that the SL would use to lead PLAYERS. The 2 remaining branches should be NPC leadership skills. Aka, skills that allow the SL to direct NPC's.

Basically the SL should be the 'sentient npc' creature handler plus have skills to lead other players.

Allow the squad leader to 'recruit' up to 5 NPC's max. The higher the SL is in his skills the higher the 'level' of troops he can recruit and direct. Pet commands for these troops are the same players have now for their faction pets.

Squad leaders should be allowed to recruit their troops by using faction points. Thus, this proffession can make the player be able to recruit non-GCW troops ..mercs from Jabba or Valarian.. or Gungans, etc etc.

The SL's 2 NPC related branches would have:

Branch1: NPC Recruitment
Box1: +1 Recruit level, +1 call npc pet, +2 storage
Box2, 3 and 4 and master box just add more recruit level (aka can recruit stronger npc's) and increases the number of npc's the player can call out to fight and can store 1 extra troop on his datapad.. at the end the master SL will have 10 npc's stored so he can have a replacement for each of his troops avaliable if needed.

Branch2: NPC commands
Box1: Hold the Line (npcs dont advance, they take cover or kneel or go prone and fire at any hostile that comes 50m in front of them), Advance (npc troops do leapfrog manouvers advancing at target while firing)
Box2: Heavy Strike (troops ordered to fire 1 salvo of their heavy weapons at target. aka, commando type troops fire rockets, rifle/carbine/pistol types throw 1 grenade if target in range). Cover Fire (troops use posture down or stun specials on target for the next 10 attack rounds)
Box3: Fall Back (troops return to your location while firing area attacks at target), Ambush (troops go prone and /takecover and do not fire until YOU fire. When you fire the troops will use overcharge shot1 on target then continue on autofire)
Box4: Reinforcements (special gives the SL 10 seconds to call another pet out during combat to replace a fallen one), Extraction (special gives SL 10 seconds to store pets during combat).
Master Box: Force Projection (5 minute duration special, allows SL to have 10 pets called out. At end of 5 minutes, any pet over the 5 pet limit will be auto-stored)

Please note that the NPC troops pets, at their highest level (master) will never be more than 3k ham no armor pets. In short, any other combat proffession has no problem dispatching them.. kinda like a master CH using 5 peko peko pets . The SL's role with his troops would be that of firepower increase for the whole group.. equivalent to having 5 marksmen-level players.

Now, the Squad Leader should also have specials to allow him to lead PLAYERS. The big problem with this is that nobody likes or wants to become someone else's pet or follow orders. Which makes it impossible for the squad leader to truly be able to have 'specials' that 'lead' others.

So instead, the squad leader should be given tools to COMMUNICATE what he wants done so players who are willing to function as a group will know what the SL wants them to do. Tools that allow the squad leader to utilize his fellow player's firepower when need WITHOUT stealing any combat rounds from the players (aka not make them his puppets). Something like:

Branch3: Player Communication

Box1: Group Designation (allows squad leaders to 'bind' players into color coded sub-groups. Aka a group of 10 people, squad leader clicks on a player's name, menu option comes up that allows him to assign that players to say, 'Blue Team'. In squad leader's screen he gets a 'Blue Team' bar he can click on to select ALL members of that team, AND gets a BLUE TEAM chat channel created for himself and for those in Blue Team).

Box2: Target Assignment (SL clicks on target (say, a durni), makes it his primary target (yellow brackets). SL then clicks on player's name (or Blue Team's bar to select blue team) and presses the 'Designate Target' key... and in the player's screen (lets just say Blue Team), they will see a giant arrow (like a holoemote) over the target's head, a sysmessage appears on their screen telling them the squad leader has designated a target for them).

Box3: Formations (in-line, vee, wedge, diamond, phalanx, box, etc). Group members will ONLY be affected by the formation command IF players auto-follow the squad leader. In short, they will auto-follow and stay in assigned formation. Player can at any time break the auto-follow if he wishes too. Each formation will grant the players IN formation with certain bonuses like ranged or melee defense or accuracy bonuses to their weapons.

Box4: Bullseye Waypoint: SL pulls up overhead map and can click and create waypoints that will appear on all player's screens. Players can turn off the waypoints if they want to of course.

Master Box: TacOps Link: Squad leader can access a tactical map view. Think the cntrl-v map but you can zoom in on your own group and see the same information that the cntrl-m overhead map would provide. This allows the SL to sit and plan and lead his group more efficiently. Waypoints and target designations can be set through this map, clicking on a red arrow or a red dot on the map will show the target info on the SL's target bar.

Branch4: Player Bonuses. This is the 'passive' branch that grants a few bonuses to all players for being grouped with the squad leader (again, only work if SL is the group leader.. OR if an SL is the leader of a sub-group in which case his bonuses will be applied to the sub-group IF they are better than the group leader himself..aka they wont stack).

Box1: +10melee and +10ranged defense bonuses
Box2: +Terrain negotiation bonus
Box3: +medic heal speed bonus, more +10 melee and +10 ranged defense bonuses
Box4: Reduced Battle Fatigue (players take 1/3rd less BF than normal)
Master Box: Increased Regeneration (+600 to constitution, quickness and willpower) when not in combat. This allows the group to 'heal up' faster than normal in between battles.

Pretty much shes saying we're end of the line and we're unimportant player fan base..

What can SoE start to do when people like Smugglers, IDs and Squad leaders begin to walk away from the guy? Throw us a 5 minute revamp that has several broken bugs?

Community is excluded from that. We have to be in touch with all aspects of the game. That statement is referring to designers, Programmers, Art ect. Also that statement is very outdated (before my time) but I can tell you that in the gaming industry things change constantly and very quickly. At the time that statement was made it was true. Then along the line it was decided that JtL needed more and poof that statement is gone like the wind.

Yip! I agree you haven't been getting attention lately. Actually not much of any attention has been paid since publish 10 to anything other then bug fixes. Why? Because once JtL is out the door the loving begins.

I think you will be happy when you finally hear about Combat upgrade and what it does for your profession. Just hang in there and remember you may have heard things before but not from me

With that being said, NO, I will not answer any combat upgrade questions or go into further detail. Why? Because we aren't quite there just yet.

Oy tiggs you replied as i was editing my post to add the rest of the stuff

thnx for the reply. What I meant was that if JTL was not supposed to 'suck' resources away from SWG, why is it taking your time away? Its not even live yet and the 'community' devs are as important as the guys that code. In short, JTL whines will deviate you from addressing our own whines. Then we're all left without any cheese.
