Thread: POLL: Do you think you should recieve Squad Leader Xp while grouped with pets/droids?
Like I said Vol, I believe it will be hard to implement. (At least thats my assumption)
It's too easy to find another PC and group with them to be able to use all your skills just for yourself. Coding it where the player has to be within a certain radius of you for your skills to work and for you to receive your own bonus's would be quite hard I imagine.
Not really, its already in place for XP. If a player is out of range (64m) they don't get XP. If a creature hander is out of range (35m), they don't get XP. If a player is beyond a certain range, you can't see his HAM on the group info... the distances from you to each player is listed on your group window already.
Its just a tiny bit of code (here's the pseudo):
On SL_Special_Usage:
{
Set Group_Members_in_Range to 0
For each group member:
{
If group_member_type = player, then,
If distance_to_group_member < 150m, then increase Group_Members_in_Range by 1
}
If Group_Members_in_Range = 0, then do Error_message_no_group_members_in_range
Otherwise, execute the special
}
Thats a trivial amount of computing, at most its 21 assigns and 21 compares (in fact, you could just make it kick out of the for loop once the value hit 1... )
OK I'm babbling, ignore me...
1.) The poll is a tie... and any poll taken on a forum is skewed anyway (IE: does not represent general concensus.) There are numerous Dev threads about why they don't consider our opinions to be representative of the masses.
2.) SL exp is broke. It isn't awarded fairly anyway... pet or no pet. For instance, do you think that a SL/Medic will ever get any SL skill? I don't ... its based on damage output. So you tell me why a Master Doctor would get no (read little) exp from leading a group of 20 people into Endor? That is the case.
3.) As to everyone speaking as to what the Dev's intended, please be quiet. No one knows what was intended and for the most part the dev's don't either. This game wasn't balanced before release and everyone knows it.
4.) Should pet owners get more SL exp than a solo SL? I doubt it but since a pet owner gets no credit for their pets damage and damage is the only major factor to SL XP... they get less than an SL who is say a Pistoleer/SL. Now please tell me why someone with a pistol is a learning to lead a group better than a SL who has been grouped with a pet since week 2?
5.) Your poll is 50/50 as far as I can tell. There is no concensus. There is no developer sharing the "vision" for this profession. Near as I can tell, there isn't any point in this profession to begin with. You can't nerf a useless profession.
Please tell me why this matters? Why are you worried about the token amount of exp a pet owner can get pseudo-solo? You realize that a pistoleer with a mouse droid will get more exp than a master creature handler don't you? I'd consider focusing on the issues with the profession that MATTER and not this petty whining about someone getting 20-50 SL xp per fight with a pet. (175,000 / 50 ... hmm... better run out and abuse that system!)
God... Some days I'm so glad the Dev's don't much care what we say.
1)Yes
2)No
3)Yes
Caveat.. Pets should not give the full xp that a player would normally give, and this should be further reduced if the Pets are the Squad Leader's personal pets.
yes no yes
The only reason I became a squad leader was to lead a squad of soldiers, imperial stormtroopers to be more specific, nerfing the xp we get while grouped with pets would piss me off.
Imperial Warrent Officer Maikeru Lonestar of Corbantis
regardless of them being pets or not, you're still leading them, thus you should get squad leader xp.
You shouldn't use your special abilites but the defensife additons should add. Just because no one's there to take care of doesn't mean that you still don't know the best ways to defend yourself. Actually it should be reduced since w/ a team you can command them to help each other.
Yes, but no xp.
Yes
Since now since the group xp nerf not many people are willing to group.
Let me rewrite the question how you really mean it....
Hi i have 20 rancors and i want to be master squad leader by tomorrow dont you think the devs should let me???
on that note...
NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO!!!
and if they let you!... then i quit SWG...... JK...lol
Ps. NO!!
Yes.
No, but only if you have formed a group with an NPC.
Yes, but only earning SL xp if you have formed a group with an NPC.
I think SLs should gain SL xp and SL benefits whenever they are in a group, regardless of that group's composition. This means that an SL could potentially solo by forming a group with his pets. What's wrong with that? Every other profession in the game can solo and gain xp (well, excepting Entertainers and Medics to a certain extent). Sometimes you just don't feel like grouping, and other times you just can't. Should SLs be punished because of this and be forced toadvance other professions at such times? I don't think so, and I hope others agree.
I doubt anyone will read this but here is my opinion I posted this on another thread earler:
Ok I hate to do this especially since I'm new to this profession, but pets/droids need to count for SL xp. I have a regualr group that I play with, can't say I agree with this but most of them are CH. Well at almost 2 pets a pece my group fills up VERY fast, not to mention my doctors droid so he can craft plus anyone else we pick up while adventuring, I almost ALWAYS have every slot filled in my group filled, usually less than half are real ppl. Now first off I don't get the choice if the pets are in the group and second I feel they need to be so that my 2 doctors can monitor and heal them. Secondly if they are taking up slots in my group (i.e. counting toward my max) why should I NOT get xp for them. I also don't understand why I, as a SL, could not direct them effectivly in combat? that makes no sense, all I would have to do is tell their masters what to do and let them relay the information. I just don't think you should take away the option to do this for those of us who don't just run around with an afk mouse droid and get xp, yes its a cheap way to get the xp (for ppl with just 1 pet), but its also a viable path for many of us based on our group of friends in game. Thank for reading!

I am ok with SLs getting XP for solo-grouping with pets. By solo-grouping I mean just you and your pet, no outside human contact. I still think it's kind of cheesy and not quite in the spirit of the role as I see it (especially mouse-droid grouping just for XP, that's just really really lame, and yes I am guilty of that too
), but I'm ok with it, and I use it often being a nov CH myself
. The SL xp for solo grouping is a pittence of what you can get in a large/full group anyway, so I think people are only hurting themselves (wasting their time) by not seeking out larger hunting groups. But I suppose it's something and if that's the way people want to play and have fun then I certainly won't opose it. I also would not cry if solo-pet xp vanished overnight.
I do think that in multipeeps-groups other peeple's pet should DEFINETLY count inyour SLXP equasion. Specifically because it's another person on the lineand that adds a layer of communication and complexity that demands your time and attention to manage correctly, which you should be rewarded for. That requires you to issue orders to that person, ala "send in pet to pull now!" or "get all pets outta there asap", ok so it's nothing revolutionary, but it is another human you're commanding to command his subordinates, I think that's what SL's all about,and I think that's valuable Experience in the more general sense. And I second what others have already mentioned that if pets gave no SL XP then people wouldn't be allowed to have them in groups, which, as a CH myself, causes chaos because I can't see my pet's health at a glance and the in the seconds I have to take to find him in the crowd and click on him can easily be the second he or I can get dead, that's not good for me or the group. So I am in favor of anything that encourages pets to be included in multiplayer groups for that reason alone.
I really wish that SL XP could be based more upon communication and "orders" issued to (and followed by) a group, but I understand that programatically that's just too hard.
