Both sides have legitimate issues, and this forum has historically been one of civilized debate. Don't ruin the chance to shape our profession by petty bickering.
I see the desire to have the SL be the GL because it is what many see as a defining characteristic of our profession. I also however see how having a second SL could be useful. Think Group Leader and his Lieutenant. I don't want to see gangs of MSL/MBHs running around, but I think we have to give this a shot on TC and let the Devs know how we like what they are doing.
Please don't degrade our discussion into a chest thumping affair.

Such is the nature of written text to misinterpret. Don't be so defensive. I'm not out to cut your throat or anything.
I'm telling you straight up from an outsider's perspective that forcing a Squad Leader to be group leader will limit your profession in more ways than one.
In guild that choose to have several SL's in a guild, forcing them to the GL position will effectively make the other SL players obselete if these players are the only ones in the guild online. You are going to force the other SL's to be useless. If a guild with 3 SL's, a Jedi, a Rifleman, and a Smuggler online, you are going to effectively gimp the potential of the other two squad leaders, which is INCREDIBLE sucky for SL's.
Furthermore, a good leader will recognize that authority needs to be delegated. Right now, a Group leader functions in adding/removing group members and setting loot tables. If a SL is indeed the player with actual control over a squad, they might wish to delegate these responsibilities to another group member.
Perhaps you need to push for a tag that shows up in the squad window that says "Squad Leader" so that others may target you easily in order to damage your target that you have painted.
I'm not going to dismiss your want, because it does make some kind of common sense that a squad leader should also be a group leader, but it is, indeed, limiting.

dude its in live that way. it has never been an issue on my server or here. squad leaders want to lead their own squads, not be my #2.

Being in an xp group that has to constantly get new members can be quite a huge deal at times, as the group leader has to frequently leave to go back and town to recruit. You cannot effectively lead a group and reinforce one with members at the same time.
I'm telling you all, forcing the SL to be the GL is a big limitation hit that you do not want to take at the expense of your pride.

You're probably the only SL on your server at the moment. Of course I don't believe that it is a problem right now
