Thread: Who do YOU want to be the new correspondent?

If we wanted someone full of hope and optimism, we'd pick me. I don't think that would best serve us. Part of me also wants to say that we should vote on who we want as our correspondant, but I know that isn't how it works. I see now, it being Monday, that a new correspondant hasn't been chosen yet. I think that's good - I would have worriedd if someone else had been shoe-horned in ASAP after months and months of no attention at all.

Could you post a link to the TH's post where he stateshe has already pick a new correspondent. If that really is the case, the rest of this post ismoot, butin the veryunlikely event TH (/sarcasm on) willlook to ourforum as for input on who the correspondent should be. (/sarcasm off)

With regard to the new correspondent, I will say that lack of posts on the forum isn't necessarily a bad thing. For those of you that have been reading the SL forums since launch, I would just remind you that Capt Vem, as well thought of as he is now, was a controversial choice when he was selected. There was a presumptive nominee, Votlaris (sp?), that many people, including me, thought would be the first correspondent. So just because someone is abit of anunknown, doesn't mean that won't end up being an outstanding correspondent. (Just in case it isn't clear, I don't mean this to be in any negative toward Captain V, I personally think he did an incredible job as our correspondent.)

One quality I would want is that the correspondent not be a yes man for SOE or TH. I not suggesting that we get a hot-head (like me), just someone that will tell THthe top 5issues isn'tenough the way Capt. V did. I want a forcefull advocate. The DEVs have ignored and insulted us. I want someone that will fight zealously, albeit ina professional way.

I think in gameexperience is also important. At a minium, I think it is important that the correspondent was a SL before the changes to boost morale and to the XP formula.

Lastly, I want someone that is willing to put their personal views aside and voice what the community as a whole wants. Capt V, was very good at this.

Anyway, good luck to whoever, is plagued with this job. I hope TH is nice to you, but if you are doing the job properly I wouldn't count on it

I got the same PM Darth got. Essentially "thanks for the app and we'll keep you in mind, but we chose someone else." Nothing against Thulium but I hope the process was more than first come first serve. That would not reflect well on him or SOE's selection process. I wouldn't mind if it was him, I would just hate to think I should have hit "Submit" while Capt. V's seat was still warm.

Darth, there isn't a post to be linked to. I received a PM from Th at 4:58am (PST)Saturday morning that said he would "add" me on monday. For some reason, if I try to cut and paste the message into a posting, I am told that I don't have permission to include HTML in my posts.

DarthLithic also apparently got a PM from Thunderheart confirming that he had already made his decision.

So I guess q3po's "send email to [email protected] explaining why you should be the SL correspondent" doesn't apply anymore?

It's just first come/first serve?

Do we get fries with that?

I definately hear you, and honestly I have to admit that IDID "hit Submit while the Captain's seat was still warm." But honestly it was because I read the Captain's post and the followup defenses of both V's and Thunderhearts and decided that rather than join in the rancor, I would do the Squad Leader thing and lead by making a positive step and applying for the open position.

In the spirit of fairness, I'll quote my PM to Thunderheart:

TO: Thunderheart

SENT: 11-22-03 03:35 AM

STATUS: Message was read on 11-22-03 04:57 AM

SUBJECT: Squad Leader Correspondent

Having read CaptainVemnox "resignation", I would like to submit myself for consideration for the open position. I would certainly support the Captain's nomination of Dilune or OmegusNeo as they know and love the profession as much as CaptainVemnox.

However, I hope that I can bring a level of objectivity and (hopefully) balance that you might not find elsewhere. If you have the time, feel free to read through my past posts to get a feel for my communication style.

At any rate, *I* think you are doing a great job, but I hope you understand that the Squad Leader community is getting VERY frustrated with the apparent lack of response. ..but I think you've heard that.

Have a great weekend, anyhow!!

Mother of God.

My mother always said if you didn't have anything nice to say, don't say it at all.

Actually, that's a lie, she said to give as good as you get and don't take it from anyone, but...

Arg. I don't know what to say. For once, I'm speechless.

CongratsThulium.

I guess I submitted mine too late as the PMTH sent me said he had to pick someone quick.

From reading your posts I think you will do a great job. Just stay unbiased and open and lead this squad out of the darkness.

Thanks, irott. I've considered my ability to remain objective to be one of my strongest attributes. That's not to say that I don't have my own (often strong) opinions, but I like to think that I can separate myself even from my own strongest opinions to see the larger picture.I have occassionally evenirritated some of my friends by presenting the opposing viewpoint even when I agree with them in principle...so much so that they've coined a phrase for it: "Devil's Thadvocate" (My real name is Thad)

But again, if you notice me straying to much into my own opinion, PLEASE send me a PM or an IM (I'm most often on Yahoo!IM, but I have accounts on MSN, ICQ, and AIM) and let me know.

I've been formulating a plan of action on what to do once I'm made "official," I hope you all will appreciate it. ...I'm planning to go a little "sticky happy" and we'll see what comes of it.

Anyone else see this as any similarity to "voting off the next contestant"?

Though I guess it doesn't matter since TH has already picked someone, I dont wanna vote DiLune cuz I want him to stick around longer

Good point, Madrox. When the time comes to pass the reigns, I'll be sure to nominate a Troll.

Goes with the SL territory, I suppose. We've already got threads discussing how to use /rally and /boostmorale as ways of PUNISHING our squads into obedience. lol
