Thread: Squad Leader Bunkers and more
"You have already gotten an advanced hunting camp that makes you more effective against your enemies - animals."
You arenot only totally incorrect in stating this but your argument here is wrong.
We do not have an advanced hunting camp. If you're referring to the "hunting blind" or semi-permanent "hunting cabin", these are PROPOSALS, not anything in game.
Furthermore, you're pigeon-holing Rangers as nothing more than hunters. Give me a break. As I mentioned earlier, there are different styles and types of Rangers. We are not just hunters, and we do actively engage in combat. In some of your post you are very insightful, and in others either very narrow-minded, or just plain clueless as to what a Ranger is. We PvP, we PvE (INCLUDING humanoid enemies) and do many other things rather than hunt. Why did you even bring this to the Ranger forum, if you already had a stereotype of a Ranger, and an idea of what our response SHOULD be.
WHEN we are given more to our profession maybe people like you will not assume so much. Our camps disband when we engage in combat because the camps are not PERMANENT. Permanent structures are called HOUSES. We have been asking since launch to have the high tech field base be semi-permanent or have a timer. All you are asking for are things that we have been asking for that are a natural part of the existing RANGER structure.
Like I said earlier, if you want to come and pick from the posts in the Ranger forum, pick from sides that both show arguments for AND against your idea. You'll find in this same forum the thread I mentioned earlier about the different styles and types of Rangers. Ever here of the Rangers in our military here in the U.S.? Do you they just run around hunting wild animals? No. They are engaged in combat and are the ELITE in their branch of the armed forces. Stop stereotyping us. If you want advanced camps, become a Ranger. You should go back and read through all of the posts requesting changes to our camps. You're not suggesting anything new. You're just suggesting it for your profession now, instead of ours, and you're acting as if its a new idea.
We want squad leaders to matter. We want you to be effective in all aspects of the game. We want to matter and be effective and be needed by others as well. We just don't ask that other professions be penalized in order for it to happen.
Again, best of luck to you and yours. We are pulling for you. Just not on this suggestion.
Visiting Rangers: Please do not forget that a Novice Squad Leader has earned EXACTLY the same amount of Survival XP as a Novice Ranger... But once we get NSL, any future survival xp has nowhere to go. If Squad Leader was a viablecombat profession, Master Squad Leader/Master Rangers would be a great combo. But most Squad Leaders have to spend their few remaining skillpoints on some sort of Combat profession and can't afford to spend any more points on Scouting/Ranger skills if they intend toactually survive.
DarthLithic, "Rangers are not a combat profession", I could not disagree more. Granted we are more geared toward PVE than PVP at the moment but to say that we are not a combat class? The same could be said of SL at the moment with their current lack of combat skills.
My idea was more based on forcing different professions to have to work together to acheive the best items. Instead, you basically want to create a camp. If SL's were to just get fortifications than it would totally negate the needfor Ranger camps, they would truely be just "eye candy" then.
My idea came from the concept that any large military bunker would need to have supporting facilites as well. You would still be able to make some of the smaller camps with the skills that came with Scouting. Just making the largest bunkers wouldrequire the assistance of any group. They could always make Rangercamps useable by other professions so they could be a component used in the crafting of Fortifications.
A camp by any other name isstill a camp.
LikeI said, my idea was not so much based of specifics, just to give a general idea on how both professions would have to work together instead of just giving one profession something to make another professionobsolete.
Frontiering
The most important change to Frontiering will be the introduction of special camps. These camps will not operate like a normal rest camp. The Ranger's "Hunting Blind" will give him special bonuses to attracting and hunting creatures as long as he stays within it. Other special camps with unique functionality are being designed.
Bugs with camps repelling creatures will be fixed...see the scout correspondent response post for information on camp xp related changes and fixes.
Also, we still do not have any of these new camps, they arein development.
the nature of the matter is this, a Ranger has a LOT of roles... SO DO SQUAD LEADERS!!!
We went through the same Survival XP junk you did, we should get something that helps us from it... A Squad Leader is COMBAT oriented, we have a Ranged Support line in our Pre Reqs...
a RANGER IS A HUNTER! PERIOD! The skills it takes to get Survival and Scout XP are done through hunting and TRAPPING and camping! Not COMBATFortifications, if ANYTHING this is MASTER SQUAD LEADER MATERIAL!

You have read none of this thread, and are, therefore, a moron. None the less, I will take the time to point out what has already been stated in this thread.
1) We have no crafting skills. These would, therefor, be made by architects and sold to SLs, much like weapons are made by weaponsmiths and sold to warriors.
2) They would not be used every day and not in every situations. Their main use would be defense. Defense of a town (ancorhead?) a faction base (there is one by BV I would love to use this with), or on a (GASP!) battlefield. The possabilities are finite, but they exhist.
Indeed, for a long term fight, why not call in a Squad Leader to Fortify your position...
A Squad leader could make sand bags on his own, but he could get help from an Architect for better Fortifications...
A Fortification, a place of deffense against an agressor
A Camp, a place of rest
A Hunting blind, a hunters tool to not draw attention to themselves...
A Hunting Cabin... etc etc etc.... You get the picture....
Which of these most suits Rangers, and which of these applys to Squad Leader... Anyone else seeing Fortifications falling our way?
Sorry i dont think it fits in with the profession as a support/leadership/combat class(lololol) First of all we are gonna have to sit around and craft these. Next what situations are they going to be good for? you expect us to make them then sit in them andhope members of the other faction come by? or monsters? The idea that you tap a lair place a bunker and then hide in it and shoot the mobs is to mea waste of spacein the SL tree.
Id rather see better bonuses and improved abilities and skills. To me this does fit in with the current Squad Leader Skills and trees - in theory it looks good but in practice it's useless....told you it was similar.
You people are insistent on stereotyping Ranger's as hunters and nothing else. I guess Squad Leaders are nothing more than glorified cheerleaders according to your reasoning. Open your eyes and do some research in the Ranger forum. Does an Army Ranger ring a bell with you folks?
