To a certain extent, in my opinion taking leadership away from Squad Leader is like taking bounty hunting away from BH's and continuously not giving Smuggler's the ability to smuggle. Taking away the leadership role of the profession is, in my honest opinion harmful to the profession. If someone isn't a good leader, then they'll leave the profession. That's fine. If no one will group up with them, they won't want the profession anymore and find one that better suits them, leaving the good leaders still in the profession. Just think on that. As I have stated many times and in many other threads here and not just on this subjec, I started working to Squad Leader and stuck with it to lead my friends and guildmates, not to be a sidekick or to have a sidekick. If I wanted that, I would've been a Doctor/CM or Swords/Fencer/Pike or something else to that effect or I would've been a crafter and have taken on an apprentice. Regardless of what I think and feel, the point of this thread is since a lot of us don't want to be Leaders, then what's the point of having Leader in the name?

I play a Rebel Captain, Ace Alliance Pilot and Squad Leader. I chose to have my toon in a military role. I'm not hardcore grinding Jedi, though I am FS, due to the fact of what I feel a Squad Leader should be. I don't go on hunting/grinding mission often because that's not how I see Squad Leaders. I see SL regardless of faction in a military or military like role (IE. Rebel SL/Imp SL/Merc SL-working for Jabba or whoever and if Rebel or Imperial heavily involved in PvP).

Squad Leaders have to be leaders of the group for us to apply our stuff now, why is it a problem that they keep it that way? Non-SL GL's have been doing fine for the last couple of years. It just seems weird that people are having a big problem with it now.

As for a name? Well...Tonto-The-Buffbot.

TBH the same question can be asked with the opposite perspective, why is it a problem to change it?

I dont think anyone has a major problem with either proposal, its just that when u get one group of people that have one idea you will always bring out people that have the polar opposite view. The majority will be somewhere in the middle with no strong opinion either way and happy to continue playing in their own style.

Id rather keep the SL as GL so Squad Leader can stay what it is, a leader. Instead of having 8 in a group using buffs, which then gives you the squad Buffer.

It's friday, so i for once allow myself my rought-guy again... and dare to ask, where are the new ideas in that thread? Nothing there which has not been mentioned already, and most of it already been repeated and discussed to death. (And, the main body of the idea, the NPCs, i pray that they finally will _STAY_ dead.)

His new title for SL "NPC Handler"

I for one would REALLY like to know WHY everyone is so dead set against having the ability to command NPCs ON TOP OF ALL OUR OTHER ABILITIESas beingsuch a bad thing? This would NOT, I repeat, NOT make us NPC handlers. We still have everything else. We still "lead" players. We are as before, BUT with an enhancement that may be used by those wishing to do so.

The optiontoCOMMAND (have out) more than one NPC trooper at a time falls right in line with the title "Squad Leader". For those of you who despise this so much - - DON'T USE IT!!! No one is forcing you to HAVE to have out, of for that matter, use at all, NPCs troops.

It isn't like this is going to replace our abilites to lead players (that's coming with publish 24 ). Right now, as I said earlier, we are "Cheer Leaders". Think about it - do the players do what you "command" them to do? - only if they wish to do so (and typically that happens in only tight nit groups where the SL is actually a lead player - it has nothing to do with profession). All we do ispretty much yell out encouagement for a team of players. So, I think Cheer Leader is a more appropriate title to what we do currently.

Sad but true. At least those of us who had NPC's could feel like we were actuallyleading some troops. (and I know if the option were added - those very people who HATE the concept the most would be they very ones who would USE IT more often than not)

For the simple fact that NPCs should be faction based and not depend on what profession you are, we waste faction to get them and as such they should be faction only. Also Their is no possible way we would get something like that without loosing something somewhere else so as we stay balanced.

I dont want to command lvl 30 NPCs to go die, im sorry, id rather do other things with my time. And im sorry, I dont feel like shouting out commands while im trying to figure out what skill to use, and coordinate with the other commanders on what needs to be done, not to mention then the NPCs have a high chance of screwing something up.

What says that anything will be taken away??? Have the Devs said this?

No.

So if you don't want tocommand NPCs or believe they would "screw things up" (even if they were used to fill in a half full group as "cannon fodder" to pull fire off of the player characters), then don't use them.

I for one would like to see this ADDED as a perk for obtaining Master SL. Until then we are still just Cheer Leaders....

(Edited for faction addition: There is a Galatic Civil War going on right? EVERYTHING is faction in a war. Imperial Squad Leaders purchase and command Imperial NPCs, Rebel SLs purchase and command Rebel NPCs and those very few Neutral SL's would purchase "mercenary" troops equal to Imperial and Rebel troops - with all current restrictions on factional troop usage applying)

You say nothing will be taken away, only YOU!

But anyway...

I dont understand your whole cheer leader concept, I dont sit back in some outfit cheering my team on, im in the middle of the fight getting first hand account if what needs to be done.I really dont understand how this is a perk, it would be more waste of Dev time that can be used in other stuff. I want the ability to lead my troops in a fight, SL gives me a couple extra tools to do this, and I rather they work on those things then some NPCs 95% of the SLs will never use.

Look, we're all in this together - we all want Squad Leader to live up to the title. Heck the Devs could DOUBLE the number of abilities we have and we would still be sub-par as a "combat" profession. Why can't we have the best of both worlds?

My greatest fear right now is that the Devs are actually going CLOSER to the Cheer Leader moniker with publish 24. We become non-group leaders and we "buff" people? Sounds a lot like an Entertainer....and that's what Cheer Leaders are primarily.

To bad for both of us, imho we will loose all sense of bein leader besides sysgroup and making a waypoint, but from my understanding, you ironically have to be GL to use either skill
