Thread: A question to Squad Leaders from a Bounty Hunter

I appreciate your reply. I also checked my favorite character builder and found that it was quite simple to have master carbineer, Inv 3 and MSL in a template. BHs must be drooling over this.

What I am saying is this:

There are two sides to the BH/Jedi combat system. On one side is the jedi, on the other is the BH (or BHs). In the new GCW regular TEFs and GTEFs were removed and the PvP-Enabled/Disabled system was added, this also included a new system concerning how medics and Squad Leaders were able to help their fellow players.

This new system stated that Medics and Squad Leaders were only able to help those of the same level and those of the levels below that level. This meant that, for example, a PvP disabled Squad Leader would not be able to give his bonus to anyone who was PvP-Enabled in his group. A special system was put in for BH/Jedi missions where the Jedi and BH would go into a self contained encounter, meaning that they could no longer be helped by anyone other than themselves.

Currently, this self contained system has a bunch of holes in it. One of these holes is that the bonuses from a Squad Leader are still being given to Jedi. I have not been able to test it myself, but I have also heard that non 3000 BH/SLs are still giving bonuses to other BHs in the group.

So ultimatly, the system is flawed. The major problem is not that either side is still gaining SL bonuses (thats just the bug I am trying to take care of. SL is my area.) but that the new system stacks the favor to the BH side by allowing 5 players to go up against 1.

I'm a MBH/MSL and the only one I know of(on all servers), despite rumors that others are thinking of following suit. But that said I think a great template would be 3400BH/MCarbs/0044SL (making this on another server)then you have the more usefulhalf of SL, every possible Carbine thing except the specials in MBH and can hunt Jedi.

My point exactly. QFE.

A bunch of jedi padawans are going to ganked by squads of SL led BHs who will gain the benefit of having an SL in their squad of five while a single jedi padawan must go it alone, whether he/she is grouped or not.

This is by design. The road from Padawan to Knight is meant to be lonely and fraught with peril.

And I am saying that the design makes no sense. You are out with a friend of yours, a group of five guys comes up and proceeds to beat the hell out of your friend, you stand there and say/do nothing. Once, they have beaten your friend into unconsciousness, one of them walks up and knifes him in the heart. You still just stand there, doing nothing.

Does that sound like a scenario that makes any sense to you? It doesn't make sense in the real world and it doesn't make sense in the context of the game either.

Well doing it the other way made it more like West Side story. And while I did appreciate the long musical numbers and the timeless coming of age story of two lovers, I felt that the gang violence between Jedi defense squads and BH gank squads(often with a jedi of the other faction) somewhat betrayed not only the vision of Jedi per George Lucas, but also the sense of quality gameplay SOE was striving for.

Blackferne,

While I (and I am sure others) appreciate your efforts to peform a comparative analysis of american musical theater and SWG, it still doesn't address the problem with having your friends and guild mates stand idly by while you get whacked (whether you are the BH or the jedi).

I understand the problem of watching your mate going down at the hands of a BH or BHs, many people complain there are too many Jedi and that Jedi have it too easy for the time period. Maybe the number of BH missions that can be taken needs to be changed, but I would say the first thing that any Jedi should do while grinding up is keep outta sight. And if somebody sees you, run...fast.

I also agree that people in your guild should not result in visibility. The issue shouldn't be about aiding them, it should be about making the BH/Jedi dynamic workable and fun.

Fanboi...signing out.

Edit for spelling.

Blackferne,

Agreed and understood. I think the visibility mechanism is fine. I think the grind is acceptable (would be better if it were quest based (more like JTL)). I think most of the combat mechanics are fine, but this one thing is a real killer (no pun intended).

Now, if there were more incentive for both sides (BH and jedi alike) to engage in a more exclusive combat model, that would be much better. Give BHs and jedi more positive incentives to fight each other and more negative incentives to not fight others. The Naboo hangar scene from Ep 1 should be a great indicator of what should happen in jedi-jedi as well as jedi-BH fights. Jedi should want to fight BHs and other jedi by themselves. BHs should have the same incentive. Not sure of the mechanic to make it happen but it would be preferable to having folks standing around going, "Gee, wish I could help, but SOE says I can't."
