Well, other profs have fiendish calculas and formulas to work out how good an item will be...
We get...
Slice = Random(35)
Must have taken the devs at least one friday afternoon to create smuggler!

Hi all. Allow me to introduce myself. I am N'Varra Wren, the "idiot" smuggler from Eclipse who guarantees a minimum of 30% slicing. As I tried to explain there, slicing is NOT 100% random. I will explain some of what I say, and some I will not, which of course, will cause the "lie" and "exploit" meters to go up for everyone. So take from this what you will.
It is true, I am perhaps the most well known mayor on Eclipse. I am affectionately called the Empress Wren by my people, those who know us, the CSRs, Pex, TH, our enemies, and most passerbys. Others call me a nightsister or a witch, some think I am Jeedai, others a liar, some even think I am a dev or something.
I am a gameday one player. I know every smuggler trick in the book. I helped JamesH-CSR and DanC-CSR discover double-slicing, as well as many other exploits in our craft. I am very clear on what is "legal" for us and what is not. Legal slicing, funny word. Let me sidestep a moment.
I am a roleplayer. I am Unabunko Kwee-Kunee Ulwan, that is, in Huttese, Queen of the Smugglers. I have much backstory for my character, from helping Talon Karrde set up shop in the Outer Rim to making deals with the Hutts of Nal Hutta. I am even writing a novel of my experiences here and hoping to have it published professionally one day soon. It is all roleplay. I am a very public figure it's true, and yet, there is a deeper and more complex aspect to my character that few see. I am often loved, and seldom double crossed.
Our profession is frowned on by the Empire. To this end, all slicing and smuggling is illegal. If I have a RP edge by knowing something some may not, does that mean I should spill to everyone in order to even the playing field? Would you, in character?
I have shown my discoveries to the CSRs I know. I am assured that it is "legal" to do. I am also told that it may be something addressed in the Smuggler Revamp.
I have taught three other smugglers on Eclipse this technique, and it works for them as it has for me. I even gave a hint as to what this technique is in my thread on the Eclipse forum. The replies of course were sarcastic, as expected, but for the astute observer, you may understand what I was getting at.
So here is what I can verify:
1. quality of resources does not matter on slicing or spices
2. experimentation does not matter on slicing, and you can't experiment on spices
3. Slicing IS 100% random and yet
4. I guarantee slices over 30%
I don't always get a 35% slice, or a 31%, so there is random aspect to it still. This technique only allows for a random within that range. I am hoping, as we all are, that with the revamp we will have many new abilities with our slicing and that quality and experimentation WILL make a difference. But until that day...
This is not a post that I will probably check back on, as it wasn't laid down as a challenge. It wasn't laid down as a cocky gesture either. It was because someone on the Eclipse forum mentioned the slander to my good name here. The name I earned through months of hard work and sweat to createsomething on our server probably not rivalled anywhere else.
I do not know of any other politician who gathered all of their planet's player mayors into a senate, was elected unanimously as head of that senate, has seen her planet flourish under her care, and has been a consistently involved player to both noobs and veterans alike.
I love this game. It is the first game of this type I have played, and I may even take it too seriously. I have a sense of accomplishment attached to it.
So what is the point of my rambling then?
It's simple really. I have never been a blind follower. Not in my real life, not in my game life. How many times have we had a CSR, or a dev, or TH say 100% this is how it is, only to read three days later, oops, that's not how it is.
NOBODY knows every aspect of this game. I surely don't. I only know the profession I love and have played since the beginning. I was one of the first master smugglers on our server, and I will be one ofits last.
Caylin, I don't know you. And I don't know if as correspondent you can hop on Eclipse at all. If you can, I would be happy to meet with you in the Wrenpire, player capital of Rori, to show you this technique.
The only thing I ask is that you verify it with the CSRs for yourself and not announce it to the smuggler community.
Why? Because, as I said, I am a roleplayer. I have made my few hundred million credits from smuggling. I have never ripped off anyone. I have always dealt honestly with everyone AND everyone on Eclipse knows it. That is why I am who I am. That is why people come to me.
So please, I can understand the flames. Nobody likes hearing someone else knows something they do not. It is frustrating. We had a smuggler on our server for the longest time named Rudd that everyone loved to hate. He had a "special" secret he would not share. No matter how much anyone begged. They flamed him for it. They hated him for it.
I am not here for your hate. I am not here to lie or boast. I have no reason to do either. As was stated earlier in a previous page of this thread, it is "boggling" why I would do such a thing. I am simply here to say "Do not be followers. Explore the game. Make the game into what you want it to be." I have done every non-titled player quest. I have created events simply for something to do at times. I strive to make the game better for me, for everyone I know, for those I don't know, and for those who have not yet come.
Being Queen of the Smugglers is what makes this game fun for me at the current time. At least hear my heart in this, if my words are not eloquent.
Thank you for reading this, my longest post by far.
PS. As a humourous aside. I have always made my customers kneel and pray to the "gods of slicing". The goddess of speed is a good friend of mine. Sadly, the god of damage is the fickle sort. In the beginning I would get people saying "Are you serious?" I would answer yes, as I knelt in TK meditation and not slice until they started praying. Nowadays, customers already know in advance to simply kneel when I do and begin to pray. Roleplay CAN be fun, and can having a well earned reputation. Still makes me chuckle everytime someone kneels. It's the little things that make me smile.

from my sad experience slicing isn't random at all... all my slices were below 35%...

Nothing to lose at all.
However my presence shouldn't be required in any way if this is a legitimate method. It's not as if I can 'watch' this slice happen in the first place.
I'm not just going off one comment from the devs as to slicing randomness, but I will certainly send aPM.

NO!!!! I wont accept it. I swear if you have the imperial UI, are at cord 500, 500 on any planet, and in the middle of going from Prone to Standing...Then you will get 35% speed!
Oh wearing any tye of hat helps.
