Thank you for your responses today Tiggs.

As a longtime smuggler, I do at least appreciate when effort is made to keep us in the loop.

And I support the current concept of fixing the things that are broken before new stuff.
Too much has gone for too long.

i agree, stuff like our promised revamp has gone for to long... actualy what loop are you talking bout? We just got our butts kicked

You know the loop the smuggler profession just got. It's a loop made of rope with 13 winds around? Commonly used in a gallows...

Lemme translate this:

Okay, we know you smugglers exist, and that is the good news. The bad news is thatthe Jedi that now make up 80% of the playerbase (because all of the other players left). Because of this, we need to MAKE SURE we keep them happy. Secondly, we need to draw in more players with expansions that do nothing to address the near-dead GCW or complete lack of an underworld, yet attract players with a flashy box that says "Episode III" on it. I know you guys and gals aren't happy with this, but I'm gonna have to insert the protocol-determined response at this point designed to keep you from getting into an uproar, protest, or bad-PR-letter-writting mood. I'm sure you're all familiar with it after being told this for the past two years, but I get paid to say this, so here it goes: "We need to ensure that critical fixes go in first and that means that, one, we will push your revamp back and, two, it is necessary to bringing you a HIGH QUALITY revamp." Yea, I know... sounds like BS, but remember that We Care(TM).

Pretty much sums it up. As for shooting the messenger, don´t piss on my back and tell me it rains. Seriously, it may be her job, but I have to agree with SpinningCloud yet again. We are being delayed here, and the sole reason for it is SoE interest in our monthly description fees.

Oh, and why on earth is the Valarian Quest being revamped? Is it fun? Maybe. Is it bugged? Not to my knowledge. Is this an issue that has to have priority over the Smuggler revamp? Barely. So much for fixing bugs before adding new content. The Smuggler profession is simply not a priority issue, and with so many of us leaving, we are losing importance by the day.

Oh, and as this is 07-27-05, bye SpinningCloud, we hate tosee you go!

I feel sorry for the long term smuggler, SOE have no customer care at all, I have a master smuggler and an Armorsmith and i just cant be bothered to slice any more.

If SOE wanna act blind to their customer service techniques let them, the PC mags here in the UK have slated them for the past few months PC Gamer, PC Zone to name a few. ROTW scored a low 56% in PC Zone.

No doubt Matrix online will become a worse game then it already is, hard to imagine how they can make it worse but I am sure they will. We all know SOE's customer services sucks it always has and thats the reason lots of our friends are now playing WOW.

Yes I do. I worked for a nationwide phone company and they regularly used semantics and 'legalese' in order to hoodwink their customers.

The entire team cares very much about you the customers and the game. The game is constantly evolving and we need to focus our energy on bug fixes and making the game more fun for a wider audience. That includes the present audience in that. We want to have more players for you to play with and I am sure you want that also. With this comes reducing the scope of our publishes so that we can make sure that publishes are cleaner. This doesn't mean that there won't be changes to professions or other content, it just means that bigger things are pushed out and given the time to be worked on that they deserve.

Why don't you just say Episode 1-3 was centered on the Jedi, and in order to bring in new customers, we need to exploit this? You say bug fixes are your concern. Cool, I'm down with that. How are new vehicles, new new player quests, new WORLDS a bug fix?

As far as I can tell, no matter how jacked they are, creature handlers handle creatures, droid engineers engineer droids, tailors make clothes, chefs make food, jedi flash their glowsticks around (Luke never needed to go to Degobah, he could have chilled in Eisley or Coronet), but smugglers have yet to smuggle anything. Lest we forget the canon, which states: the smuggler saved the Jedi ass in the Battle of Yavin, again on Hoth. andonce (twice?) again in the Battle of Endor.

You want me to have more people to play with? I knew plenty of weaponsmiths and armorsmiths prior to CU. Stop funneling everyone into Jedi. Make the 'real' professions worth something. Give someone other than a FS or Jedi grinder a reason to chill with hawt Twi'lek dancers.

Since I've said more now than in the past 12 months of my involvement with this this crappy game, I shall now retreat to my corner in the bilge and wait for half-empty beers and pie crusts.

Take a look here... Tiggs just mentioned that our revamp is postponed

No, that isn't what Tiggs mentioned:

Tiggs wrote:
We are currently focusing on fixing what is currently broke. New features will be move out to a longer term implementation.

A little further down the line, Tiggs also wrote that SOE are switching to a "Quality over quantity" approach to new Publishes. There's a difference between postponing and developing over a longer term.

We need to read between the lines here:

  1. The majority of the community asked for existing bugs to be fixed over new features being added. SOE have quietly admitted here that their "deadline driven" and "release it anyway" approach is flawed and that they will be trying to take the "Quality of Quantity" approach from now on. We've got our wish!

  2. The majority of the community wanted more communication from SOE, even if it was acknowledging bugs our giving a small hint of their development schedules. Tiggs has acknowledged bugs and effectively advised that new features will take longer to add to the game while SOEattempt to make sure thatas fewbugs as possible are added to the game with them. We've got our wish!

Am I disappointed that smuggler missions/revamp will be delayed? You betcha. Am I a little happier that when the smuggler missions/revamp happens it will be a more polished product? Absolutely, provided SOE stick to this new approach.

SOE have done something right here people and the game will ultimately be better for it as a result of this changein their approach to development, provided they stick with this new approach. Be happy!

Fair dues, Angus, you've waited alot longer than I have for this and I understand where you're coming from. I'm going to give it a bit more time personally, but I hope you'll be back one day if SOE produce a decent Smuggler revamp.

Well maybe, Oh Wise One.. can you tell me (a non native english speaker) what is the difference between: DELAYED, POSTPONED and A LONGER TERM IMPLEMENTATION?

It doesnt matter how you turn it. Under the buttom line it all means the same.

The "New Agenda" sounds fine, but it wont work.. We all know SOE and how they work. They will again screw up, and then it wont be just Smugglers that get the Shaft, it will be everyone else who is not a Jedi or BH. Funny thing is also that she said that new content/features will be on a longer term implementation and then post bout revamped Valarian Missions? The excuse is.. Oh thats realy doesnt matter, those are2 different Dev Teams.

Sorry.. but noone can be so stupid.

I used to think that I'dconsider about coming back once the new Smuggler content is here, but now I'm not so sure.

I have no faith in this Dev Team at all. I don't know if it's the SOE part of the team, or the LA part, but it really doesn't matter. I don't doubt that if they ever get Smuggling into the game, it'll be some lame crap that most of us don't like, just like the new slicing system. And the rest of the game will still suck with useless professions and even more Jedi-centric content.

I dare them to prove me wrong, but I'm pretty sure that I am dead-on.

I'm going to "wait and see" without giving them my money to do it.

Whoa! Didn't mean to offend Thomen. /bow

I'm a developer myself, though not linked with SOE in any way other than as a customer, and we normally get trapped between the customers and management when building systems so I must admit I have some sympathy for the Devs at SOE.

Dev speak-wise a Postponement is normallystopping all work until after an event, e.g. "We'll stop work onsmuggler revampuntil after we've finished FRS and then look at it again" which I consider a Bad Thing(TM). A "Longer term development" usually means work will continue, but will take more time. Not necessarily a Good Thing(TM) but means that work is still ongoing.

Read into the reasons behindit taking more time what you will, only SOE developers know the real reasons there. My own guessis whoever has the Smuggler revamp on theirlist of jobs has now been partly assigned to helping out with the bug fixes, and together with the emphasis being put on releasing quality code means we'll not see anything for a publish or so.

What I would like to see is some rough schedule information from SOE, if at all possible. Even just giving WesBelden an OK toconfirmthat Smuggler work is still ongoing would be fantastic. Who knows what Wes has been told but can't tell us due to an NDA...

I'mgenuinely curious as to the answer to this question though: Would fellow Smugglersrather have a bugged Smuggler mission system by the end of August, or a bug-free Smuggler system by October?
