It may be a Revamp issue but it sure is affected by the CU changes in front of us.

I see it as a potential problem because I would really like to play a 'slippery' type Smuggler/Pistoleer BUT that means there should be alternate ways of ending a bounty other than kill or being killed.

My thoughts on the whole "defense vs a BH" is that our tools to control and escape them, while I don't have the exact specials in front of me, seem more than sufficient. You do bring up the complication that a player with only smuggler cannot outdamage a BH, but there has to be SOME advantage for a BH. Being able to "mez" should buy enough time to get away, and I again think that we shouldn't be able to crush a BH, just get away from one.

What you are left with is what HOTDOG points out: that smugglers will always be on the run. I think this is cool as hell provided the devs actually code player bounties on us. A smuggler should be always on the run, and a BH should always be tracking us down and get their hands on us. Of coarse, there is no "resolution" that you speak of, but there was never any "permanent" resolution in the Tom and Jerry cartoons, which is probably why we still watch them..... at least me that is

Wes has in no way shape or form lost his spine. He has fought for us and I have no doubt that he will continue to fight for us. Wes' spine > Joras' Spine

I would not call Wes spineless. And there are more "community leaders" than those not on the Sand-Box team. Regulars to the forum even. There are many who have become complacent with whatever is given to them instead of going for what they need and deserve.
However, there are a few people that have lost their edge. A lot of them have the general idea down and want it but in the end really just sit back and let things happen.
The "Yeah, it'd be nice...but whatch'ya gonna do? /shrug" stance is on the rise and it saddens me.

Okay, I'm gonna have to call you on this one. What exactly should we be be up in arms about anyways??? What kind of a role do you see that would put you up in arms about the one that we now see before us???

Smugglers aren't, and were never designed to be, heavy damage dealers. We sure as hell aren't tanks. What the hell should we be???

To be honest I think that crowd control is a very appropriate role for smugglers. Why??? Well, for starters we should excell at handling a larger enemy force through our trade. We should know crafty tricks to use to put enemies at bay. The pistol is a small, lightly damaging weapon, and if you are going to use it, you might as well learn to use it to control an enemy as opposed to just blowing it into smitherines. We have effective and tactful specials and role.

You may be upset, but come on, what the hell should we be doing anyways??? This is perfect. This was our dirty fighting role before all of the skills were nerfed to hell. To top the damn thing off, we now will have the role of being able to evade/control a bounty hunter, which solves a BIG problem concerning player bounties for smugglers.

I am not going to get upset or full of hot air for no damn reason at all. We will have the ability to manipulate large groups of enemies, what more could a smuggler be useful for in combat???

Do not ever take me for someone who just takes a dev blow in the rear and shrugs it off. I am too intelligent for that. I have a few wishes for smuggler in this game: (1) that a REAL contraband/underworld system be implemented, (2) that a meaningful player smuggling system be developed, and (3) that we have player bounties for greedy smugglers. #1 is difficult to put in, but is making strides. #2 is doable with the current smuggling revamp idea. #3 sure as hell better come.

Take that edge you want smugglers to have and cram it. There are more effective ways to get things done at times, and I don't need to play a "tough", "hardass" smuggler to effect changes. It is, indeed, a poor tactic to take at times, and I am so sick of this fake, hardass attitude that some think people around here should carry. I get that attitude on occasion when I get pissed about waiting for years on end, but the devs just skip right over that grizzled, negative, pessimistic crap that is spewed around here.

I am GLAD about our CU role. I like it. Why should I fight it? I am done with this portion of our community that feels we should be grizzled. Take your disappointment of our forums and keep it to yourself. I do not accept it. No thank you.

After all, how long have smugglers been tough, hardasses, and how well has it worked so far? It doesn't work well. There are a few things that DO work well: bad publicity and time. Wookiees started bad publicity, Veela started bad publicity, and I don't have access to those resources, so I put my investment in time. I am done ranting on this f'ing garbage.

A while back they said they'd test them at the same time, but the posts they've made today seem to indicate it'll just be the CU for now. Sounds like the expansion will be added onto TC sometime later on.

Could be wrong, though.

Don't think that just because i'm a Wook I'm more interested by the expansion than the CURB, far from it, I was just wondering if they were still going through with the original intent..

Ternque; "A smuggler should be always on the run, and a BH should always be tracking us down and get their hands on us. Of coarse, there is no "resolution" that you speak of..."

I don't mind always being tacked for the most part. But I do mind never having an oportunity to breath while in-game. We should at least be able to evade to a point where we are left alone for a time before being hounded again...a way to melt into the crowd and go unnoticed for a bit.

Without these types of evasion and 'hiding' skills then the only options left to us are to die or take up a template like Smuggler/BH so we can be uber enough to take on another BH. Personally I find that template just plain 'wrong' but if it means survival and the Smuggler/BH template ends up ruling then I'll probably jump on the bandwagon.

Now if Smuggler/Pistoleer was SUCH a good evasion template that it provided methods of evasion that left us long periods of time unpursued then I'd stick with it and enjoy the idea that there was always someone looking for me but I was clever enough to make it hard and bought myself a few hours of relaxed play.

Let's all take a breath.

1) This is COMBAT ONLY. This has nothing to do with Smuggling Abillity, that we (don't) have now, or (might) have later. So Spinning, you're right, I agree, but (and I can't believe I"m saying this) that is not within the scope of the CU. You honestly want them to add in abillities for something they MIGHT add in god knows how long from now? Now one COULD take this as a positive sign that they are thinking in that direction. But to extrapolate ANYTHING about BH vs. Smuggling from this would be foolish. We don't fight Bounty Hunters presently.

2) Since when were we supposed to be an all combat profession who is able to go toe to toe as is with any other 2.5 combat master? We're SUPPOSED to have weaknesses, and given that we're NOT a fully combat profession (though there is MORE coming so everyone keep your panties straight) why should we be uber bad asses? BH's are the single best template if you look. They have the two highest and best scores with only Crowd Control as their major vulnerabillity (so group gank a BH ). But other than that, EVERYONE is going to be shoddy defense, good offense, bad CC. Or GREAT offense, crappy defense, okay CC. That's the whole point! This was, is and always will be a mix and match system. Now, while I've always been in favor of the crafting/combat hybrid myself, and a vocal proponnent (right Caylin ) I've NEVER said or thought that anyone who doesn't dump ALL their points combat should be on par with people who do. We're smugglers, we're hybrids, we're jacks of trades. That's a fact.

3) Since when is a 3 out of 5 offense bad? It's MODERATE offense, boyos. Not 3 out of 10. That's a MODERATE offense. MODERATE. Why should we have a higher offense? We're not nukers, never have been. Moderate offense is about right.

4) Nick...son you better check yo'self before you wreck yo'self. Perhaps what you're seeing is the benefit of experience. Maybe some of us looked at those In Concept Threads, saw how far down the road that was gonna be, how wrapped up in the CU those boys are, added in the Rage of the Wookiees retardation and said, "Hey, ya know? I COULD start fighting this now, but I'm not gonna, because they're not listening." Know when to hold'em. Know when to fold'em. Honestly has there been ONE developer response in their? No. Because they're not paying attention to that right now. Some devs are still building on it in secret. But they ARE getting bum rushed on the CU and the Expansion (I mean come ON, who do YOU think came up with that May 5th date? SOE? Psh. Please.) ? The point is there is NO purpose in haranguing on that NOW. Was I disappointed? Yep. But does that have anything to do with this subject? Nope. So watch who you're calling spineless (oh and some of us old schoolers, by the by, might have developed more complicated LIVES while we were at it).

So let's all remember we're all smugglers in arms, and get back to being CONSTRUCTIVE. Thank you.

JTG,

1. All I'm pointing out is the CU is going to make all but a narrow range of Smuggler templates MUCH weaker than we were before. I am a Smuggler/Pistoleer and I'm seeing that that will be a double dose of 'mez'. While I understand that the Smuggler Revamp MAY address the issue I've brought up I don't think it's too early to point it out as a potential problem. Sorry though, I don't share your faith that SOE already has this in mind, so I think we need to be vocal about it until they acknowledge it with a plan.

2. I do agree that Smuggler by itself shouldn't be a 'combat profession'. Most of us though suppliment with a combat profession. Unfortunately what this CU does is direct us to the more damage oriented combat profession to make up for what we're lacking...though no one currently knows what 3 out of 5 on offense actually will mean.

I'm actually quite concerned that there will be one uber Smuggler template; Smuggler/MBH. *shrugs* But who knows ATM.

And I think you're taking a vague guide too much to heart. Smuggler as it is now has ONE offensive maneuver. ONE. We do fine. On the scale of damage dealing professions where would you put smuggler on a scale of 1-5? And we don't know what 3 out of 5 means offensively? We know it means Moderate and in the middle. Whether they're RIGHT's a different story.

And it's not that I have faith. You're right, you CAN point this out now, but again, BH's don't hunt us, currently. There are NO plans that we know of for them to hunt us in the future. So "in case BH's hunt us, we need MORE," is really just kind of a weak arguement, know what I mean?

As for your concern about how this will all stack? I agree. I'm concerned as well. I hate the narrow test window. I hate that this is getting rushed. On that score you're 100% correct that stacking is going to be the BIG issue. Because the idea of this simplicity and the idea of "1 good score, 1 middle score, 1 bad score" is supposed to ease the problem of stacking by making all professions "separate but equal." Everyone has a different JOB, but no one's better than the other. But whether that's true or not, we'll see in testing, because that literally IS something we have to look at in testing, because there are all kinds of abillities involved (and you know how those can mess with things).
