Deion,

What's stopping Rudd from telling somebody he got a 40% slice when he actually got a 30% slice is the fact that anybody with math skills and/or a calculator can call him on it. Checking over on Rudd's server board, I didn't notice a whole lot of people calling him on that facet of his craft. In fact, I saw just the opposite.

Fact: armor slicing caps at 45% and is easily attainable.

Fact: weapon slicing so far seems to cap at 38% (doesn't seem to be a round number, does it?) and those numbers above 35% are not easilty attainable. Hitting above 30% seems to be about as common as hitting above 25% at Slicing IV. It is probably not too much of a stretch to assume that a cap is at 40%, or that maybe there is a cap at 45% that for some reason (maybe linked to the slicing IV bug?) isn't easily attainable.

Assumption that requires validation: maybe one person has figured out a way to work around the bug or glitch that is causing lower weapon slices to occur at Master level, and I would hazard a guess he's given us all the clues we need in his screenshot. (I'm just hoping he answers my questions...it's got to have something to do with those crummy weapons and the piece of junk he's carrying.)

I'll say it again: I don't blame Rudd for not giving away the secret easily, but I think a lot of people reading this thread are frustrated with trying to figure it out. I know I am. If nothing else, Kammi will end up getting some more free slices as I experiment.

deverythign i was refering to was weapon and he did claim to slice a weapon at 45 percent read the whole posts i wasnt remarkign about armor at all as i know you can get a lot higher slicign armor. i was erffering to when he claimed to slice a "WEAPON" at 45 percent thanks

Ok. I'm just going to quickly summarize all the ideas we have thrown out as to how to attain higher slices:

Highest Experimented Equipment (WUK's, AUK's, Clamps, Knives):

After reading posts in this thread, as well as others, it seems to be that using the highest quality materials doesn't affect slicing on a consistent basis. However widespread, controlled testing hasn't really occoured because all servers have different types of minerals. I also don't think that factory vs hand crafted makes a difference, as it's apparent that Rudd used factory created tools.

Unknown Material/ Conductivity vs. Quality / Other unknown crafting related Possibility:

Conductivity vs Quality goes back to experimentation, so I'm likely to discount this possibility. Unknown Material is what I'm going to test next. Maybe something that shouldn't work (or should work and we just havn't figured it out) is causing higher slices.

Multiple Dialogues / "Luck" Chances:

I have a theory that if using tools that increase your chance at discovering can actually DECREASE your slicing percentages. This would explain the Slicing4 bug, as that is the first level one recieves molecular clamps. When you close the slicing dialogue before you cut a wire (whether right or wrong) the wire resets. Is there a pattern that is discernable as to what it will reset to immediatly afterwards? This could possibly explain why Rudd has seven cdef weapons in his inventory.

Spice/Food used to buff "Slicing" stat:

I would say it's possible, but right now I'm not gonna count on it. All other crafting does not require any stat enhanced. If it is a stat which one? Is it one we can see? Man i wish there was a Chef on Corbantis!

Skill Enhancing Tape/Chip:

It's possible that Rudd has some skill enhancing tape or something that boosts his slicing skill. Since we don't have a skill which we can get increases to slicing it may be invisible (or maybe something like +X to luck). If so Rudd would just have to tell us, or someone else would have had to found this.

Bulk:

Rudd is supposedly the most popular slicer on his server Eclipse, which is usually full. Does that sheer fact that he does so many slices allow him to get the rare high slices more often? Hard to tell, everyone would have to slice a lot of weapons and keep records.

Droids:

I currently have an R2 with a crafting module, but havn't noticed anything different with it called or stored. Further testing would be required.

finally...

Rudd is Force Sensitive

And it's just that random. If he is, he's the luckiest SOB .

Remember this is to try to slice above 35% on WEAPONS not armor. anything i've missed please add. Rudd you're imput is greatly appreciated.

Maybe you just need to have over 2,000,000 credits in cash. Seriously, why would you possibly carry that much CASH around and then have only 50k in your bank? That just doesn't seem normal to me.

Just a short noter. My highest slices have always come when im slicing near a weapon crafting station. Nowdays I pretty much always slice near a weapon crafting station, perhaps im lucky or something, but i feel like my slices increase by some 5% when im doing so.

All I know is that my all time lowest slices have always been donewithout a weapon crafting station nearby, while my all time highest slices have been done with a weapon factory nearby. Ive done over 500 slices.... could just have been a coincidence....

Rudd,

I was wondering if you could answer a couple of questions in regards to your screenshot:

1) Have the load of CDEF weapons you have in your inventory been sliced?

2) If they've been sliced, are they poor slices? (i.e. less than 20%)

3) Am I barking up the wrong tree?

I know I said I wasn't going to stress about this, but when I think I've made a gain at figuring this out I keep proving myself wrong. :bangs head on desk:

You've definitely dropped a good hint, I think, which is really all I was asking for, but I just need some clarification as to what I'm seeing as to what you've presented.

If I'm right about this, it might also help explain why 45% slices on armor are far more easily attainable, and would also support the supposition that you have made that 45% is the solid cap on all slicing.

It seems we got another hint. Rudd says he believes someone on this thread has gotten close. Whetherpeople believe him or not (I for one think it may be possible) it is worth exploring. Especially after seeing that an Armorsmith can potentially expirement away ALL encumberance, I would thinksomething has to effect the quality of the slice. After following the posts, I'm ready to kick in my two cents...

Things we can see... All of his tools except for the knives are factory produced. I think we can assume that Rudd makes his own schematics or the weaponsmith with whom he is dealing would probably make them and not need Rudd. I think we can rule out the clamps being made by the same crafter as the weapons being the factor.

The knives and WUKs on the other hand may be a different story. Still, there are many smiths that make and slice their own gunsand make their own knives, clamps and WUKsso even that seems like a long shot.

There are numerous lower level weapons and a boken items in his inventory. Since I know the broken items only yield 1 credit from a junk dealer and the inventory space is worth destroying it on sight, it makes me wonder why it is there and what effect it may have.

Things we can't see... Is it possible that a secondary stat may affect the slice? If you have a greater capacity to focus, would that have an effect? Someone already noted that while crashing, they hit a 10% and 11% slice. If spice does not give the right boost, possibly a food or drink made by a chef.

Exactly what is the best stat for a material to posses to accomplish slicing? Conductivity of copper sounds plausible but could it really be some other stat? I have heard that for some crafted products, overall quality may not matter as much as one particular stat. Could it be some stat that we haven't yet considered?

I'm not a grinder myself but I may try a couple of things. I say a couple because that's about all I can spare without making a trip to get more clamps. At my pace, it may take another couple of weeks to get from slice II to III but I am very curious myself to find out how -- or if -- this can be duplicated.

Here is a tip, I am starting to feel bad for all of these people that are pulling their hair out over this one. I seriously doubt you all do the volume that I do when I Slice. Someone here is very close to doing what I believe helps me immensely. I Slice easily 250 weapons/armor a day. A lot of it comes down to pure bulk. I see the percentages *rarely*. I get extremely lucky if I see more than one a day. I have contractors that I work for, and I do crates and crates of weapons over and over. Want to know if the weapons come into play? They do.

But I would suggest, if you are really hardcore set into finding out how to do it, get a WeaponSmith to throw 1000 CDEF's in a factory for you and try those. (Just make sure he uses the right quality materials when making them. hint, hint)

Ah so it does have to do with how the weapons are experimented on. So which one has to be highest for best slicing? It leaves Damage, Range, Effiency, and Durability. My guess is that weaponsmiths must experiment high on effiency to creat the best weapon slicable.

Tomorrow I will make 4 crates of cdef pistols, one that is experimented on to the max on only one attribute. Maybe this will turn up which slices better.

After doing a few quick initial tests on cdef weapons with high experimented efficiency, I've found that maybe this is what it is. My first two cdef weapons sliced for 32% and 33%. Tomorrow i will test in depth.
