Thread: Concerns about slicing.

How about rather than having the component itself be looted from high-end NPC's, a limited use schematic is looted instead. That way crafters can be used to make the components, most of whom will already have vendors. It would smooth the way to make these components available to Smugglers, whether they go to the DWB or not.

This isn't healthy for our profession.

Getting a slice should be easy. Not getting caught with a sliced weapon should be difficult.

We're not jedi. Don't put rare crap into our profession. Keep it simple and accessible to casual players.

I'm sorry, but I am really concerned that SWG is becoming more and more loot based. Don't get me wrong, I love loot as much as the next person but we have crafters in the game, why can't they be used to provide some of the slicing equipment or at leastallow smugglers to craft the pieces themselves?

Crafting is what makes this game different from all the other kill-and-loot games out there, crafting is why I play SWG.

But I am glad smuggler is finally getting some attention, hopefully my boyfriend will be a lot happier now

Ok, so now, in order to get something back that has been borked for a long while, we are going to have to leap through hoops of fire in order to have the capability of what we could before? I don't think so! Think about it... The slices are going to be no where even close to how good the original (pre-cu) slices were, even though they were random, because they will completely ruin the balance. We will just be doing more work for something we could do before! How can youcompletely scrap an idea when it hasn't even been on TC withfrogs!!!If you fix all the bugs with it, try it again, and stillpeople hate it, then you can change it. And let's face it, if this is planned for Publish 19, and this won't be on TC for two or so days, there won't bea plan C... We're going to be stuck with it whether we like it or not. It's going to be so hard to do slicing, something that was planned as just something casual, that it will seem like our primary focus!!! THIS JUST IN!!! IT'S NOT! Our primary focus is smuggling! We don't need to be able to do uber-slicing modifications! We just need to smuggle! If the programmers just need to, quote, "Add dialogue" to the smuggler missions, then why don't you spend more time getting that done, and release it, then making an extremely complex and difficult parody of what slicing is?

ok as loot items i think this idea really sucks.. we are smugglers/ pirates. why cant we get a mission from jabba in space and have to take out a ship flying in space carrying the components, you could still make it hard to get em , but at least this is more believable and it gives us smuggling content.

Well I guess I'll never get these comps for slicing I guess I wasted 2 years of being a smuggler.

Slicing will no longer be "fun". It will be a who has the most time to gather these new comps and who has a zillion bucks to buy one on the trade forum auctions.

You are all still mistaken - you CAN STILL SLICE WITHOUT THE LOOT. its like building a suit of armor - you can still make one - but with the high quality loot attachments - its waaay better.

GET USED TO IT.

Well the whole design behind SWG crafting system is that in order to have an uber item, you MUST have a crafter that is involved with actually making the item. It is sad to see guns that are looted that rival crafted ones, but I do believe that the best you can get is crafted.

With this loot-based slicing system YOU NEED a smuggler to do it for you. That is the most crucial part of including loot but still showing love to your crafters and smugglers.

I can see it now: SmugglerCustomer Servicemacros.

(Customer walks up to Smuggler)

Customer: Hi can you slice my weapon? I'll pay 100k if you have that DWB component.

Smuggler: Hold on.

Smuggler presses F3: Do you have one or more DWB components on your person?

Customer: No, I thought you would have it.
Smuggler presses F5: No, the DWB is currently too high powered for smugglers to go in, unless you are accompanied by 7 Jedi. Since you are a , you should be able to find you own group of Jedi and retrieve the component successfully.

Customer: Oh. Well, I don't have time to go to the DWB. Why don't you stock your own supplies?
Smuggler presses F6:Yes. I do accept bank transfers. Send me a tell when you have the component and we can meet up.

Customer: Excuse me?

Smuggler: Wait. Sorry.

Smuggler presses Shift+F6: I would stock my own DWB components, but currently there are 20 smugglers feigning death near the spawn box, so even after 4 hours of waiting, actually getting the component is rare.

Can you be a master smuggler/jedi knight? Because this is the only way I see this system working. The smuggler shots are very weak. I dont see a master smuggler making it past the first battle droids in the DWB let alone getting inside to loot the tough kills. We are too much of a mix profession (crafting/combat) to really do any hard lairs. Im a TKM/Smuggler with some pistoleer mixed in for the defense bonuses and I never use a pistol. Any and all combat I do is with TK.I live longer that way. In the words of nearly every main star wars character "I haev a bad feeling about this".

Don't trash your upgrade kits. We're going to see about adding a
salvage option to them that turns them into one of the new components,
randomly. (With the higher level ones being rare, etc). Also, the high
end components can now be found on Krayts, etc.

OK.

I'm strongly against these being specific drops to the DWB or the Avatar Platform.

I dont' really like the idea of them being drops at all, but I agree that high performance upgrades should be harder to get. But I would support making them drop off a wide variety of NPCs, of varying levels, with varying qualities.

As a master smuggler, yes, I will expect most of the people who want these special slices to provide their own components.

I think it is important that we still have the basic slicing abilites that don't require the looted components as well.

Better yet, make the high end components craftable, but be really tight on the resources. Require very high end stuff to make the best. Give crafters a reason to try.

Give the components crafting to Droid Engineers or Armor/Weaponsmiths if you don't want smuggler to be a crafting profession anymore.

To the people asking for these items to be schematics: NO. This makes high-end slices the norm, thus eliminating the low end slicing from everyone's equation, because no one is going to want a medium-grade slice if they can get a high-end slice easily.

To the people saying that you're going to quit if the changes are implemented: Good riddance. If you can't handle difficulty and the removal of convenience from the profession, get out now, because it's not going to get easier for us. One day you will be the same person complaining about Smugglers being on the BH terminals, because it's a tier based system, but you can't reap the benefits without taking a gamble on high-end missions.

To GM: Sorry about the mess.

To the people with constructive criticism/comments: You make this forum the place I love. Thank you.

Theed was a bustling commerce city...people hawked their wares, danced, laughed, dueled, and had a rollicking good time. Cantinas packed with Entertainers of every race, shape and size...along with scoundrels, Stormtroopers, and drunks. People grouped up and stuck together in the wilderness, and you ALWAYS took a Scout or a Ranger with you. We lived our own Star Wars saga. We created our own personas, our own histories, and it all blended into this wonderful, magical experience that I will always remember...

That magic is gone now, but I'd pay 50 bucks a month to have it back.
