Thread: Concerns about slicing.

Don't trash your upgrade kits. We're going to see about adding a salvage option to them that turns them into one of the new components, randomly. (With the higher level ones being rare, etc). Also, the high end components can now be found on Krayts, etc.
Good stuff.

To the people asking for these items to be schematics: NO. This makes high-end slices the norm, thus eliminating the low end slicing from everyone's equation, because no one is going to want a medium-grade slice if they can get a high-end slice easily.
To the people saying that you're going to quit if the changes are implemented: Good riddance. If you can't handle difficulty and the removal of convenience from the profession, get out now, because it's not going to get easier for us. One day you will be the same person complaining about Smugglers being on the BH terminals, because it's a tier based system, but you can't reap the benefits without taking a gamble on high-end missions.
To GM: Sorry about the mess.
To the people with constructive criticism/comments: You make this forum the place I love. Thank you.

schweeeeet..i got crates of tools made from high quality materials...
ooo, i better go tell my guildies not to trash the stuff!!
Please reconsider the 'loot drop' idea. If they are going to be 'loot' make them available on missions that are smuggler-specific and repeatable, and mobs that a max CL 56 or so can do. I have a two year old Master Smuggler I love dearly, she's a master dancer as well, the roleplay for her is excellent, please don't make her now more of a slave to the 24/7 loot spawn campers. A master smuggler should be the 'only' one who could scout the galaxy for such kinds of rare slice and spice treasures, otherwise we are just going to be abused as 'slicer-monkeys'.
Thanks for listening, Greenmarine

So in other words.. I should use my fleet of equipment factories to make tons and tons of updrade kits..........................
a) hunt for components, then charge for both the component and the slice
b) if you can't hunt for components yourself, buy them, then charge even more to use them--doesn't make sense to buy these if you won't make a profit on them
c) if you can't hunt for or buy them, then set up shop as the guy to go to when a player's ready to have his uber slice--for a price
The nice thing about a and b is, if these things are rare enough, people will pay a lot for the convenience factor of not having to hunt for the loot themselves. And if they drop in stacks, we can do like weaponsmiths do and offer to charge a load for the slice itself, or do it free in exchange for a component. Only problem is we won't have the leverage a good smith has by providing his uber resources, but if you play it smart and don't sell yourself short, you'll be able to get your hands on these things.
As far as the specifics of this, I've been hitting up the DWB lately, and I find the concept of turning those guys into the main source of high-end slicing gear to be pretty humorous. The DWB's like fighting 2-10 Necroses at once. In other words, you do need multiple Master Defenders, you do need multiple docs, you need to expect to die constantly (and often unfairly, like to level 92 SBDs wallhacking with AOE lasers).
In other words, time for Jedi to get richer.
Honestly, and this is a mini-tangent, there's no way for a non-Master Defender to tank a level 90 mob, you know, let alone multiples. If these were animals, we could root them, and if they were outdoors and animals we could kite them, but they're NPCs with guns in enclosed areas who hit for enough to kill me in four shots.
You know, I really don't want to get sidetracked on that any more.. but do you guys ever consider adding loot drops like this to space? I understand not wanting to clutter it up with irrelevant ground loot, but there are occasions when it would be appropriate.
1) Using loot moves away from player based economy
2) Having components for 'master' level means we need them to make use of our Master box
3) It removes risk from using an 'illegal' item
Other than that, me likey

I have to loot to slice, better loots = better slices, OR buy the loots to slice...
Last time i checked...my "Smuggler" specials were not enough to engage in protracted combat alone...I say alone ...cause in a group...who's to say...you are gonna get that component.
/stop panic
Hmmm...looks like slicing costs are gonna go thru the roof...at least on Tarq...cost of anything there is "up, up, and away"
This coulkd be good, could be bad...real bad!
Time will tell.
YOU DO NOT HAVE TO LOOT TO SLICE.
You have to Loot to get the best possible slices.

Actually, since you put it that way you make a good point as, long as the lower end slices are relative to the the rest of the system. My only concern is the drop rate. Make it too often and it becomes too common, make it too rare and no one will feel it's worth the risk. Gonna be a delicate balancing act.
