But they should institute the contraband system and smuggling system FIRST before they decide to start trimming away "non-smuggling" ventures.

I have said a few times that what I think should happen is that Merchants should be able to assign an "underworld contact" per vendor. The Underworld contact would need to be a smuggler to be a valid entry and would then allow that vendor to dable in the black market. The smuggler would then get a small % of all contraband sales.

This would give smugglers a sort of "turf" and area of control for which they can compete with other underworld fences (smugglers).

I realize this would require some new functionality in vendors...but then so would disallowing contraband.

A or B.

What you answer may very well affect what smuggling is in the future as to what the status quo on illegal items will be.

I dont think either of A or Bis in itself a great solution. Who is limiting our discussion of the future to such all or nothing polar extremes, the Devs or us? Either way its tragic.

Any poll which is meant to not be leading should at least include an option for C) Nither

And if the future is not yet set in stone by the Devs ... we shouldnt be trying to set it stone either.

EDIT:
I'm butting out since we're limited for some reason to A or B but for the record here's an old post with an idea I had which I think is better. (Not saying it is...just saying I think it is) When reading the post, remove references to the bounty system and just make it such that vendors cannot sell contraband w/o a smuggler and it should work fine.

51 for A

8 for B

No issue we have is EVER as simple as A or B or even A through F. There have to be details fleshed out, comprimises made, and agreements to satisfy as many people.

But that's not the point here. Wes is looking for immediate feedback, he's in now ay making this entire complex issue into a win or lose situation. Just getting something that can be worked on later. This is hardly going to be the last time this topic comes up I bet, and knowing how good our correspondants are, the voice of the common smuggler will be heard when it comes to time to hash out the important stuff.

i'm more for a C...no contraband on vendors on a case by case basis. and then moderated, add risk to the business

i'm not thinking forafter global vendor search (that will be optional anyways) is in place for example but consider this....the Imperial presence is not nor should it be equally distributed among all the planets. so on corellia and naboo it would make sense not to be able to buy spice on a vendor 1000 m from theed. what about the far reaches of Lok? Tatooine is only in theory controlled by the Empire...Bestine may be out but what about mos eisley..the purported hive of scum and villainy that it supposedly is?

additionally there have been some that compare this to buying drugs in walmart...what about instead, buying a stereo in a pawn shop. do you know for sure it wasn't stolen? police raid pawn shops all the time. there's a reason...its not always a completely legal operation.

so rather than instead of no contraband on any vendor, how about no contraband on any vendor on heavily controlled planets and vendors on less controlled planets are subject to search, not unlike being scanned. this gives fines and maybe tefs the merchant in some way. that might be more interesting.

i'm reaching i suppose but i think that others are right, a simple yes or no is not a fair and equitable solution. it kills more than just spice. you cannot say no selling spice, clamps, sliced weapons and armor from the vendors and bazaar without banning anything the Empire would frown upon. this includes anything rebel related like factional armor, banners, all those disks, anything jedi related since they supposedly don't exist and like clamps have no legitimate purpose including holocrons, crystals and pearls...

just random thoughts...

I know no issue is ever that simple, but I think this one is even less so. There are many middle ground suggestions, and have been fora long time. This is not a new issue. So why distill it down to an arbitrary yes or no when there are other options? Why not collect some of those ideas, old and new, see which ones are the easiest to implement and poll us on that?

B.
Who cares if we sell spice or slicing equipment on vendors? No big deal. It doesn't add or take away from the smuggling feel for the profession. Besides, it gives us a place to sell our spices. It's easier for people who want spices to go to your vendor rather then have to search you out. And if you're not online, then they just go to someone else and you lose the business. Selling spices and such on vendors is how I make me money as a Smuggler (though I haven't made much lately because of how useless spices are now). If I couldn't sell them on vendors, then I'd probably never sell any.

Think about it... if we couldn't sell spice on vendors, how the hell could we sell it? We can't carry around crates of spice in our inventory in hopes that we'll happen to find someone running about shouting "looking for spice". Like hell I'm going to clutter my inventory, that's already too full, with crates of spice that I want to sell.

But still... aren't there more important issues to address besides if we should sell spice on vendors?
