Thread: pricing for slices

Sorry about the multiple posts.. who knew hitting tab submits the post?

Anyway....

This weekend I experimented with a higher slicing fee and no one even questioned me.

I am charging:

under 19% = Free

20% - 30% = 5k

above 30% = 10k

Not only did no one have a problem with it, but I did a set of armor for a guy and had two terrible slices. The total came out to 25k and he paid me 50k anyway.

I added these prices to my character sheet, and have no plans to go back to the 3k per slice days.

The other day a guy charged me 5k, did an 18% speed slice.

Frankly, that ruined a good weapon. It was exactly as effective as before, since I was speed capped, except now I couldn't sell it, and it no longer had the potential to be improved.

And you want me to pay 10k?

Look, I can go and fight with an unsliced weapon. I'll do less damage, but I can do it. I *can't* hunt without doctor buffs. Plus, the doc buffs take top-of-line materials. When you spend 350 c/u on the materials you need to make clamps, feel free to charge 10k. When you spend 2 million credits on a skilltape for +1 slicing, feel free to charge me 10k. When you can guaentee I'll get a 30%+ damage slice (doctors can tell me what I'm paying for, smugglers can't), I'll pay 10k. Hell, you do that last one, I'll pay 50k.

But you want me to drop 10k a slice on a total crap shoot, that costs you nothing more than 3 clicks of the mouse and a tool I could buy a crateload of on the bazaar? I'll master smuggler myself before paying that! You say I pay dancer's 10k to afk macro? I don't, I *tip* 3-5k because I value the service. I don't place any value on an 18% speed slice. Why the hell should I?

Here's a pricing system that would make sense to me: you get less than 20% speed, you get nothing. You get less than 15% damage, you get nothing. After that, you get 100 cr per speed, 500 per damage %.

Last, I want you to consider new players: when my entire bank acount has <50k in it (as it did, for months), asking me to spend 1/5th of my total cash reserver on a mere slice is an insult. That's greed, plain and simple. Now, I can afford a 10k slice now: but someone said it best when they pointed out you needn't charge 10k to slice a weapon bought from a novice weaponsmith for 5k. Don't give this "if it's a crappy weapon, then 10k is fair game to improve the slice" nonesense. For 15k, you could go out and buy a good weapon to begin with. Then do a mission or two and pay some *reasonable* smuggler 2k for a slice.

You smugglers get hosed by the devs, thats fair. But taking it out on every other proffession is petty in the extreme.

And thank you, to all the good hearted smugglers on Corbantis, you guys are great.

_______________________________________________________________________________________________

Wow, you are hella cheap and have no idea about slicing. What if someone wants a speed slice? There goes your pricing structure. I'm on Corbantis, so never, ever, send me a tell wanting something sliced.

I am an SOE customer, now only if they'd treat me as one...hell, I'd be happy if they treated me like a McDonald's customer.

I've never, *ever* wanted a speed slice. Hell, if I could sell speed sliced weapons for half what I payed for them (unsliced), I would. Especially BAD speed slices.

Seriously, with skill tapes? Every single proffession can hit speed cap. Damage is better, plain and simple. That's all there is to it.

And how am I cheap? I'd pay 15k+ for a good slice. Even a "decent" damage slice, 20%, nets you 10k. Which is what you want, isn't it? And you get more, if you deliver a quality slice. I just want to get what I pay for, no more, no less.

The only profs that can hit hte speed cap alone with no tapes are : fencer and Teras Kasi. For swordsman you need +14 in tapes with master brawler to hit the cap with a 6.0 weapon doing 2hand hit 3. For rifleman you need +6 in tapes with master marksman. Pistoleer you need about 20+ in tapes or you have to dabble in BH same with carabineer. Pike i dont know. But when leveling every combat prof a speed sliced weapon is better. i want some speed slices as a master swordsman, i havea speed sliced scythe and a speed sliced Geo hammer that alow me to cap with 2hand hit 3.

The argument that we should get paid as well, if not better than the docs is kind of absurd. At most, a smuggler requires a 40-100k investment to start a decent slicing career, which is to buy an equipment factory. Use that and buy cheap metal for your clamps and knives. Ask a WS or AS to make you a WUK or AUK schematic, and you've also got a good supply of them too. I overpaid an AS to sell me the resources and schematic for 1000 AUKs at 60k. Considering the average price of a crate of AUKs for a minute, especially on Corbantis. That's 5k per crate, and a 1000 uses is 40 crates which would cost you200k. Repeat with WUKs and you've saved yourself a whopping 280k to add to your final profits. Not to mention we are not restricted by quality to make good slices, which is a boon considering a good doc can only make money if he buys his kits from a merchant who specialises in hoarding the good resources that occasionaly spawn, and pays a doc to make them for him.

A smuggler can a ton more money with little investment if he roleplays a little and uses his wily ways to get around such things as overhead and business expense. I myself only make serious money when I do big jobs and average out the slices to make my 'per slice' fee, and I get all sorts of perks from the grateful customers, which adds to my gameplay enjoyment.

Plus, even though you can make so much slicing terminals, there's the fact you have to wait for a buff from these 'overpaid' docs, then buy foods to sustain your mind, and then your armour, which gets battered no end very quickly. With slicing there's no risk, no need for buffs, foods or armour and you tend to socialise more. So hang up your armour and get with the smuggling program; lazy and in it for the almight credit.

If you can easily fight with unsliced gear...

THEN DO IT

Dont take the chance of a speed slice if you aren't willing to pay the money.

Do the Kindhearted thing and GIVE THE WEAPON to a newb.

Goto Mos Eisley and hand out guns. I'll buy 10-15 weapons to find the right one I want, then I'll give the extras away.

The money I spent to buy the weapons and if I wasn't a smuggler, the money I would spend to get them sliced could EASILY be made up in 1 hour.

You must be cheap if you worry about selling everything that you buy.

Fixed rate charges per slice is nice and easy and stops you having to keep calculating your %'s. 5k is fine.

thatz exactly right, "my time and my tools", if people wanna pay crap for their PERMANENT slices, tell them to talk to someone who is basically slicing for exp. If they want quality slices, then shut up and fork over the pocket change that we are actually asking. like someone else added, when people are toting millions of creditz whatz 10k. nothing, thatz what. u don't see smugglers sitting with lines of people waiting in lines at starports, at least not on gorath, there is a reason for that. first, not good money,. second, i hate explaining how itz random and u get what u get! even if the profit margin is there, itz still just 10k. what can we buy for 10k? not much, hell i've almost spent that repairing my swoop! plus, the aggrivation of having to carry everything around with us. sorry but it breaks down like this; i slice for me, my friends, and guild. i'm not in it for the money odviously, i like doing it as a service to help out in the community and if your going to ask me and i have the time, 10k. i'm not trying to be a jerk about it but hey, i enjoy doing other thingz that do finance my entertainment like the 50k missions i can nail on dath. 50k a piece, loads of exp, 15 mins. thatz the true benefitial part of being a smuggler! hell i spend more time than that alot of the times explaining that i can't do a "damage increasing" slice or a "speed increasing" slice! and then the ensuing arguement that i didn't give a lower slice because i dislike them but because itz random. nah, thankx anywayz. i have other thingz to do, /sigh. lol

Well I just happy to be in a forum with some elders and vets who aren't just playing spelling bee, and actually have some input on the matter.

I have to say this I never said Smuggler was the same as Doctor. However having grinded BOTH I know that I would rather do Doctor four times than have to do Smuggler again once. (thats the only reason I hold out till the revamp). I must say for all the replies that say smugglers charge too much I have yet to hear a smuggler come up on here and say "Yeah I'm over paid and under worked" Give we can make our clamps and such with the crappest of resources. Just like any one does to grind a profession. Or are you going to tell me all the artisans are useing 980 OQ steel to grind to business 3 for a vendor?

Basically I have pretty much given up slicing. I don't hate doing it at all, but rather hate who I'm doing it for. I still slice for my friends for free. But as fars as people asking I tell them can no supplies sorry. Then I get the follow up tell. If I buy them for you will you then. I say nope too busy.

It seems to me if you people are not only willing to go find supplies for me to slice you stuff and pay me to do it, SLICING must be good. I laugh when I see people writting I wouldn't pay that if it were a speed slice or the sliced ruined my weapon. First off tell me your from the forums and come to theed, I'd be happy to slice your 1.0 speed pistol for a +30 speed slice and have you say you won't pay me my 10k for it. I just say thanks and offer my new pistol on my vendor for 15k. Also it ruined you weapon I have yet to have a slice make you weapon not work. I did have lag once in theed and miscut a scythe blade for some one but I gave him 450k and kept it since I was the slicer even though lag did it.

We all have our things we do for money. Some craft and charge for a profit. We slice and craft crappy moun no one wants anymore. Other run missions or whine to the guild for credits. But smipple point is Slicing is never going to be free to the over all public. Not just that but after reading the revamp notes I'd say there is going to be a huge increase. If they make my resources effect the slice (which would be awesome) I'm going to start up slicing again. I will use the best. With that I will also most likely charge the highest. So you don't want to pay 25k to slice you crap cdef pistol? Great I didnt want to waste my supplies on it anyhow

Many of you may believe the low cost leaders are going to keep the price down but I don't see that at all as the case. Somehow, I picked up a new customer even though I generally don't slice for the public anymore. He spread my name around and it seems that my number of active non-guild customers is going up. Not complaing about that but I have been seeing something interesting.

I have long held to my pricing of 2K a slice, 1.5 for 4 or more. I don't try to make a living slicing and that's the same thing I've charged since August of last year. However, I have yet to find a customer to pay that. One gentleman that was a smuggler at one time gave me 100K for 2 suits of armor and the others seem to be giving 5K or so for a slice.

From my point of view, there seems to have been a shift in perceptions by the player base. I think many are still going to balk 200 cr per % or a 10K slice but quite a few don't seem to have any problem with offering 5K or so.

Just an observation.

There are many people on eclipse that balk at anything above 100credits/% (especially on weapons). Although I dont seem to have as much of a problem with this when I slice suits of armor. Not sure why.

I think in a way you are rigth. Not many players in general have problems with paying 5k and most do offer you more. The ones I found complain the most are usually the ones who join guilds to rob them of what ever is free as fast as they can run to the next guild. Not bragging but I maintain about 1- 3 mill aday income. I don't see how any others can not make 50k and have to spam in the star port. I remember went I was a noob I didn't have a ride, or any armor, plus I started out my new found game grinding TKM. If any one has ever done TK it is fairly easy if u have good comp and some other combat def mods with it. Other than that it is hell!!. I didn't know about stat migrations I just made 10k got buffed and ran missions till I made 10k more for my next buff and then worked on getting a ride so I could do it faster.

Now I see these noob who most likely have played on other servers and none of them want to work for anything. All I hear is heyt can I have 30k for this or can you give me 50k for that. Try telling one of them hey I'll set you up with a ride and some ok armor and 50k but you have to scout me some meat for a few days to pay it back some. Then I'll show you how to make soome good money useing scout till you get in a groove of things and can fend for your self. They throw a fit. I loved it the first time a doc said hey get this I'll give you 50cpu. I was in shock. Now I tell them hey kill these I'll give you 75cpu and they go can I can I have it up front. Or I dont like doing that its boring. How many of you liked grinding holoc? Any one?? Many if it were like fencer or something but DE come on no one did it for fun.

My point is this. We worked hard to get smuggler and if you say 2k is enough for you thats great. 5 - 10k is enough for me to help you out. Some say 100 cr per % some say 200. But it is notthe general public giving everyone crap. It is mostly know it all vets trying to get a quick discount thinking if they slam you a little for your price then you'll cave and give them a deal. Or the lazy noobs who can't find thier way out of the theed starport because going /yell I'm a noob who licks a$$ and can't even run a mission but I figured out macros pretty well., is easier then doinga few missions. Because some one will go I hated when I was a nooba nd couldn't travel and tip them 10k. I know I did till I saw the same guy there for 4 days straight.

I change 5-10k depending on the % because that my price. If you try to slam me for it I'll make it more. Not my weapon I already sliced mine, my self lol.

Other than that get rich any way you can lol.
