Thread: Smuggler missions and why we need them?

EVERY ONE HERE IS BLIND, hell i jsut figured it out let me explain:TRALITA (A SMUGGLER) walks up to a standard mission terminal performs slice (WITH MOLECULAR CLAMPS AND LASER KNIFES BABY) and then turns on the deliver mission, but instead of jsut a standard low pay easy deliverly misson she sees deliverly mission(s) for 50k a pop with a CUT of the deliverly (SLICING LOOT) and sets off to preform the mission, picks up the deliverly and gets a waypoint on another plannet, with the cargo in hand (every single imperial or npc police with in 20 meters will immediatly agro) she heads out to deliver the goods. Is shot at in BESTINE but escapes, and delivers the cargo.later she takes another mission but slips up and is captured (INCAPED and cargo taken) and is set loose with a warning (3 strikes in 7 days and your out) upon her 3rd strike a bounty mission is placed upon her for 24 IN GAME hours, when the bh incounters her (100 meeters of her) she has 5 minutes to escape to a safe distance of 3000 meeters or off plannet.THIS SIMPLE SYSTEM USES CONTENT INGAME NOWand simply does a few things, allows us to get our own loot, allows lower level BH to hunt other than NPC alowing for intresting match ups, and allows us smugglers to smuggle plane and simple how about that
These are the sorts of things we're looking at now - existing systems we can tie into the (incomplete) smuggling system in order to flesh it out.
This is a nice start... I like the concept... In _addition_ how about...
A rodian (Like the "Old Man) runs up to Ramsey (A MS) and mentions he's heard of Ramsey's exploits and would he be interested in making a few creds on the sly running a shipment for Jabba. Ramsey likes the idea and accepts. The rodian tells Ramsey to go to Tattooine and pick up a cargo (upon successful delivery he'll get a cut of the cargo (STACKED Slicing Tools/STACKED Spices) and deliver it to a guy floating around Lok. Ramsey jumps over to Tattooine and gets the shipment of equipment. On his way back to the starport he's jumped by a small gang of Valarian thugs. Ramsey evades them with his AOE concussion shot and launches his YT-2400 into space where he has to deal with a contingent of Valarian fighters before hauling his butt into Hyperspace. He arrives in Lok space to find his contact is under attack. Once Ramsey's taken care of the attacking vessels he docks with the freighter to deliver his cargo. The freighter captain thanks him and offers Ramsey the agreed upon payment... Or would he like to make a few more credits running a shipment of spice into Bestine?
Yes, I know some of this is total fiction... We don't have AOE for our CROWD control. And there's no YT-2400 in-game. And we can't modify (slice) our ships. But I like to dream big.
Personally... I think random NPC's running up to anyone to start random missions is the way to go. I'm a Master Smuggler - I didn't get that way without some sort of reputation. Why couldn't a Imperial NPC run up to a BH and tell him about a nasty Jedi that needs taking care of? Or the farmer NPC that finds a Commando to rid him of the bols attacking his crops...
The random timer for the NPC to approach is in-game... The NPC approaching is in-game...

JFreeman - would it help if we gathered all of our best ideas on one spreadsheet and give them to you? I know we have masses of posts that would take an eternity to sort through.
Ok Freeman...er I mean Zane thanks!

It's been done, multiple times, sorry Makris. It doesn't need to be gathered again, I guess it just needs to be resent.
This is what worries me now as I echo HOTDOG's sentiments. Now we're evaluating AGAIN. Now we're looking at player posts saying "I Like This" AGAIN.
Why is this time any different than times in the past? There has been nothing said in this thread that hasn't been said before, so how do we know things have changed?
Things have been compiled and evaluated time and again. There are countless ideas of how to implement smuggling into the game within existing systems posted on this forum. Some of them are still here, others (like the ones that were removed from In Concept) are in your archives. Please tell me we're not going to have to go over it all again. Please tell me that you're trying to take whatever has been done before and move along with it using the existing ideas of the players and developers to create a MEANINGFUL smuggling experience (this is where I'm echoing Caylin's sentiments) and not just a regergitation of the old S vs s conflict (this is where I'm echoing Wes' sentiments).
So help me God if I we get another, "What do you want in smuggling" posts.
Yeah, I kinda agree... I think they've heard our ideas... And not knowing EXACTLY what they are doing (except kinda the direction sorta)there's not much point in throwing more ideas in their faces... Let's just wait it out a bit more, and wait for something to show up in TC.
P.S. Ramsey, you need to log onto Bria more often! And finish yourcasino!

Lets try and keep it to the questions and make it as constructive as possible so its easier for anyone reading he post to digest so hopefuly we can encourage a red name down to pop in and say something/anything about smuggling and their plans.
I can say that we can't really give any specifics about our plans, other than we plan to stop promising a smuggler revamp that we never seem to get around to delivering.
It's very unlikely we'd ever do a full profession revamp for smugglers anyway. Instead we're focusing on incremental changes, enhancements, updates.
The Combat Upgrade itself was a change to the Smuggler profession, and the recent slicing changes was another. We're still planning on reviewing the spices: probably not a full fledges "spice revamp", but rather fixes and upgrades to improve the line.
We agree that you need Smuggling Missions. So, you don't need to convince us of that!
In the past, our approach to this has been to design with an eye toward content-driven delivery mechanisms. Now I think we've come to the realization that creating hand-crafted content requires more resources than we can devote to a single profession. So we need a plan-B.
In the same way that Bounty Hunters have a systems-driven source of activity, we've got to look at ways of systemically delivering "smuggler missions" to you.
But I still can't give any details as to when we could deliver this or how it might work.
Enhancing the Smuggler profession is high on our list of priorities.
Just in the long term...right?
Are any of the Smugglers really suprised we're getting screwed. Hey at least he was honest and finally told us once and for all that we ain't gettin our revamp. No more wondering about it now huh?
[tries to reach for knife in his back]
Hey since your back there, you wanna help me pull that thing outta my back?
Once you get it out just hold onto it, I have feeling your gonna need it again.
While I'm sure Tiggs and TH will love my saying this, point your angst in their direction with the request they pass it up to those that are in charge; please try and stay focused with designers/programmers because talking about how we feel and what's gone on does not help those that would work on us and does a disservice to all those that have left and more so to those that're still here waiting to be able to Smuggle.
At least, that's the way I see things

While I know everyone's frustrated at the lack of development of Smuggling missions, bringing up the fact that we've been waiting for two years, feel like you've been stabbed in the back and that we've been lied to in the past is not going to help developers who are in here looking to talk about actual development.

and kindly asks be POSITIVE, you dont have to be nice but PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF THE ALLMIGHTTY 42% slice DONT PREACH YOUR NEGATIVE ATTITUDE IN ANY THREAD WITH A RED NAME, it makes them go away ESPECIALY WHEN THEY ARE TALKING WITH US!!1
You're joking right? I voiced a legitimate concern that was being voiced by others as well. I didn't flame. I didn't demean. I posted legitmate issues.
I understand they're looking at how to move on with smuggling, but that's all we understand and it's only because he said it. I'm looking for better understanding all around and will ask what I need to to get it.
And trust me, I'm the one who's been saying let's talk about this to TH and Tiggs, so I'm not gonna get all offensive on them and push them away.
