Thread: Just waxing intellectual on the future of SWG...what's YOUR opinion?
Funny I was thinking the same thing the other day, everyone is going jedi in one way or another and your right it will kill most other professions. The game is turning into something that is not star wars (alteast in this time line). Sad but at this point it seems the only thing they could do is turn back the hands of time and re-set the time line to between Revenge and A New Hope. Set it durning not after the Jedi Purge when the rebellon was just starting out and the Empire was still hunting jedi. OR make all Jedi attackable whenusing their sabers in public, build ajedi vs sith faction game, removing them from the GSW and lastly bring back perma-death, sadly none of that will happen. This sucks and Jedi should have never been added to this time line but as we see with Smuggler SOE does not give a lot of thought to anything when it comes to a quality game its all about membership and money.

First, I don't want this to turn into a flaming post, so please keep the fighting out of here.
So...I've been thinking a lot about the recent turn of events in this game. The CU, the patches we've recieved as a whole, and every other thing that we've seen changed since launch.
The developers made a decent point about why the CU needed to happen. It was "because the game couldn't go on the way it was going forever. DoT weapons and uber armor were making PvP completely pointless..." and so on. They have also admitted to "looking the other way" about the number of Jedi (this was a LucasArts rep at Fan Fest) and that they want the game to be "more fun" for everybody.
We've also seen the number of Jedi grow exponentially over time, for two fundamental reasons:
- One side are the people that truly desire to be a Jedi because they feel that's the profession they belong to;
- The other side are PvPers that see Jedi as just the next step in the evolution of their character's toon.
So my question is this: What happens when everyone becomes a Jedi? What happens when everyone that loves their profession so much finally gives up when they realize that they're not getting content, but it's being taken away from them? What happens when everyone that wants to participate in the GCW can't unless they have a Jedi? When will we see a 'regular'profession become totally extinct (as so many seem to be currently?)
If everyone finally becomes a Jedi, and then makes their alt the profession that's truly in their heart...aren't we back at square one? Wouldn't it have been better to have never had Jedi? Whatare the development team and LucasArts thinking by making changes to Jedi that allow them to level up easier? Where do they see the future of SWG, if this is their plan?
If the CU was a fix for the combat system because management didn't believe that SWG could have survived in that model....I'm terrified to see where they see it going now.
So SOE, LucasArts...I'm asking you:
Where do you plan on taking this game as a whole with the current production cycle of makingcertain professions"more fun" and "easier to play," while taking away professions like Entertainers'usefulness (because it isn't "fun" to heal BF, or it's not "exciting" togo into a cantina and sit down/talk to someone that's not AFK)? Where do you draw the line on making the game "fun" for certain professions, but removing other professions' content and happiness?
Sorry if I seem like I'm ranting, I've just been really thinking about this the last week or so, and the advent of Patch 20 kind of pushed me over the edge.

Man, I feel the same way as well.
SOE = Greedy Losers
I am one of the truly negative SWG players when it comes to faith in the devs. They have shown a remarkable ability to apply the worst of all possible options to any situation. That said there have been some improvements to the game.
Jedi should not live in the SWG universe unless the time line is changed. The people who stuck with this game were likely fans or the game would have gone the way of it's fantasy brother Horizons, into a court asking for protection.
The best protection from creditors is to make a good product and provide good support. The support in this game used to be awesome, now it is frustrating from my perspective.
There are many people who think the only chance this game has is for it to start over in different hands. I am not sure it is that bad but it definitely shows signs of Sonyism. We used to be the best in the world so we don't have to be now, love us anyway.
I'm optimistic the Devs are making improvements for the first time that are intelligent in my mind. They are adding loot, though easy to get. That's ok if they are going to attach it to hunt and fetches, if those are long they make you log and scream.
I don't think it's time to close the door again but if they don't make solid changes they will not keep the many people who have returned or that are here for the first time. Content Content Content and rewards.

Why is this surprising? You think that WoW isn't about membership and money? How about CoH? Matrix clearly wasn't succeeding in the membership/money arena which is why they're coming here.
How about AOL or Earthlink? What about T-Mobile v. Verizon? Cable v. DirecTV v. Dish Network?
I'm sorry, but if you want to get away from this, you'll have to go back to MUDs, and even there you still have to deal with the push for members.
Sure, I wish the integrity of __________ was more important than the profits of _____________ Corporation, but that's looking for an ideal world. Fill anything you want in those blanks with anything you want and the money will always be the most important.
You can find it depressing, but at some point you'll have to deal with it.
MBH sneaks in...
First of all i'd like to say that this thread is brilliant. Mature, concise and well written. Like most of the Smuggler boards. Sadly my board is full of whiners.
Visa vi the jedi situation, over a year ago whilst exploring Endor my friend (who had been playing for months before and convinced me to join) and i heard the BAAZOMMMMMMMMMmmmm of a saber and ran to find the jedi who lit that bad boy up. We discussed after he left how cool it was to see him and that he was a top chap.My palhad only seen 2 jedi before him, it was superb. "wow look 3k damage on that bol" "cool"
Now I see jedi dueling at starports, meditating or channelling or whatever in the open with no fear or concern and i add them to my list of Jeebay I i'm gonna look for on the terms with the note "twit in open at starport"

JediArashi wrote:I had a similar thought Veela. I mean, they made jedi so easy to attain, and now Jedi Knight easy to attain....what is the next step. When a new player can grind to Jedi in 6 days, then to Knight in 10...
Okay, in all defense, no, no. That's not true. Well, someone who has unlocked jedi can grind through jedi in maybe a week or so, to a full template, they still have to go through the Knight trials to become a knight.
Which means Publish 21 will be the changing of the Knight Trials to the Knight Trial... which will be a short journey from 0,0,0 naboo to 0,0,5 naboo.
That might be a more dangerous trip than you think. 0 0 0 Naboo is a buggy spawn point(on Lowca). I've seen it spawn everything from high-level Corvette NPCs(Imperial and Rebel, none of the CorSec or Droids), Crackdown units, Droideka, and even Avatar NPCs, just to name a few. Of course, if that was your intent all along, I'll stop clearing that waypoint and just advise Babelon's citizens to avoid it from now on.
I think this publish might just push me over the edge, and force me to try a new game. It just keeps moving further and further away from anything I care about. I don't want to be a Jedi in this game, and unfortunately - that makes me irrelevant.
Right now I have 6 elite professions spread across 3 characters. Bio-Engineer, Creature Handler, Bounty Hunter, Smuggler, Ranger and Rifleman.
Bio-Engineer becomes more useless everyday. Tailor tissues don't work andpets are now useless. Basically all I can do is craft stim packs - which I still don't even believe belongs in BE
Creature Handler is dead with this publish. I see no real use for the profession anymore. CH isthe only combat I have on that character. Now when I send my pet into attack, everything agros on me instead of my pet. Brilliant.
Bounty Hunter is only good for getting PVE specials now. Hunting Jedi is pretty much finished. No more visibility while hunting in a group means the only Jedi on the terminals will be the Kashyyk AFK grinders that you can't find. God forbid a Jedi actually gets killed and has to spend an extra 2 hours grinding.
Smuggler gave me a little hope for a minute, but that passed quickly. I got real excited after seeing the In Concept documents for a revamp. All we really got out of that was changing our slicing tools from craftable to lootable. I have the sinking suspicion that since they threw us that "bone", they will feel like they can put us off for another 2 years for smuggling missions.
Ranger. What needs to be said about Ranger. It requires more skill points than any profession, and gives you no real skill. Ranger is to Scout as Musician or Danceris to Entertainer now. There is no real reason to waste the skill points when you can do the exact same things at the basic profession.
Rifleman is probably the only profession I have that isn't completely broken or useless - and ironically, it's the profession I care least about. It's just a combat supplement for my Ranger.
Why am I paying $45 a month for this?
I've taken a step back from the smuggler forums in the past month or so as some of you have noticed. I've been really trying to get in touch with that guy that started playing SWG and I think in some measure I found some parts of him and am much happier as a result.
very awesome to hear joras... you know, between that inspirational story and kyr'yxus asking me to come back. i may swing by Sunrunner sometime soon.

nope..sorry yer not allowed to quit. Sunrunner needs all the good smugglers we can get. I mean..I just finished decorating my YT1300 today and it's possibly the best decoration job I've done in 2 years (and I've done alot).
