Thread: When (IF) smuggler bounties are introduced how will you change your template and why?

You have far too much faith in the CU and are making a blanket assumtion that it will make everything all better. SOE does not have a track record of having the common sense to impliment player added content correctly. JTL is a big example of that. Look at Kessel, they refused to listen to the beta testers to make what would have been fun RP content in mixed PVP/PVE content and ended up having to pull pvp out of it.
And no I am not ignoring that this is after the CU, but the CU and revamp do not focus on our combat abilities and I have zero faith in SOE's ability to add this.
Again address the issues.
Did you even bother to read my post? Sometimes I wonder why I even bother to put ignorant people in their places this early in the morning.

The same can be said for the smuggler re-vamp. What you fail to see is that the game is not doing well and if SOE does not start getting it right no one will be here to argue any of these points. What your telling me is SOE sucks so why bother trying lets all just do nothing and then b*tch when the muck it up yet again, good plan.

That makes sense. If you have no faith in SOE and refuse to try and at the least come up with ideas to make the game more fun, if you refuse to PVP now or after the CU and if you think Smugglers re-vamp will be worthless then why are you even playing this game??
Again address the issues. - again read some of the older links, I dont have the time to search for them or re-type pages of doc's I and many smugglers have already done. Besides you seem to have no interest in smuggler bountys and im not in the mood to hear about griefing anymore seeing as how that is the only point you want to make. There is a ton...a ton of info on Bounties ideas, go look for them.

I have read them. Lots of neat RP ideas vey little there on game mechanics
My faith in SOE is based on their track record.
Since you have no desire to address ideas for the issues all that can be assumed is you have none.

Since you have no desire to address ideas for the issues all that can be assumed is you have none. - hahahhahhahhahhahhaa what a n00b ask anyone in this forum how many ideas are out there and how many times ive posted mine. Now I have to wast time at work to try and find my ideas so we can all read about how its all griefing issues and how you still dont see it working, haahaahaahaahaa. Give me like 5min to find just my ideas and i will post them in this thread, man how funny.
A full and robust Smuggling system
Ok Scoooter here are my idea's basically only NPC and Quest based missions get you on the terms and visibilty is built slowly on the missions but built faster on the quests. Another way is to give no visibility on the missions but add it to the quests. Many ways to do this and these are only my idea's. You will also notice that Bounties are only a small part of the over all smuggling system, Ive never felt that we should flood the BH terms but rather buildup visability slowly. If you steal cargo or fail enough missions you end up on the terminals AND This in fact makes sense as far as the star wars universe and adding more player content.Have fun telling me how the idea'swont work. ![]()

Agreed...this guy decided that I owned him so bad earlier, it wasn't worth his time to reply to me.
And Yimayz, everyone worth their salt on this forum knows how much you've put into this profession! ![]()

If all goes as it should, players will have the option of taking low risk missions. That means missions that won't get you on the terminals if you mess up. In this way, the devs would be giving people the option of player bounties put on their heads. If you make the concious decision to have a BH hunt you, you better be well prepared, and not just for the fight, but for the possibility that the BH that gets you is going to be a real jerk and grief you.
But to reduce the accessable content because SOE cannot control an area of the community in a PVP by consent only game is flat out wrong.
Jedi by what thay can build in their template sign up for it. Jedi in itself is a stand alone PVP template. It's made with the fact PVP will happen. Smuggler isn't. So again you are forcing template changes on people to get at content when the base profession does not support well with pvp.
There has to be a better way

There has to be a better way - so what we do being illegal and Han being hunted by a Bounty Hunter does not fit into any of this for you does it?

Its not about being a wimp, its about yet another point added to the game that will allow grieving. SOE has a track record of not listenening to beta testers, and not seeing where grieving can and will happen. I have been around long enough and have no faith. Like I pointed out look what happened to Kessel.
Griefing happens. It's a fact of life. All anyone can do is suck it up and try not to place themselves in a situation where they'll be griefed. As for "grieving," I do it all the time. I grieve for my profession, which has the potential to be the greatest thing to ever happen to an MMORPG.
Give that the CU will not give us any worthwhile combat upgrades andwe will have to move to pvp oriented templates. Forcing templates is not what SWG is about.
Well, here's the thing: Smuggler bounties won't go into the game until we've had a revamp. You are assuming that we're going to have the same 4 trees with the same skills in them. There won't be a need to change our templates, because after the Smuggler Revamp, I'm sure we'll be given skills to either cloak ourselves from BHs, or effectively fight them and have a fair matchup. Who cares about the CU for Smuggler? We might get some neat stuff, but my eyes belong to the Smuggler Revamp.
You are asking those that have been waiting for a long time for the revamp to have faith in SOE and change their templates if they want the extra content.
I've been waiting for the Revamp since August of 2003, and I'm not changing my template one iota. Extra content? You obviously have no idea what you're talking about. Smugglers will be good enough to go toe-to-toe with any BH once we've had a decent revamp and some skill mods.
There are other ways one could get caught and feel punishment than having PLAYER BH's come after them.
Oh, and I bet that Jedis will be totally cool with Smugglers getting NPC bounty hunters on them when they have to deal with the BH player base? Um, no. And what other way are you thinking? Fines? I have so much money they could fine me a million credits and it wouldn't make a dent in my account. Faction loss? Boo-hoo. Most Smugglers are neutral in their hearts, given that IF a Hutt faction existed, over 50% of the Smuggler Community would rush to Jabba's door to sign up.
Lets face it thats where the problem lies in all cases of grieving. There are little kiddies out that that think that making a players life miserable is great fun. That mentality exists. Add to that the smuggler typically does not have the combat skill to handle a BH you will be forcing all those that do not have a 100% pvp template to do so.
Once again, you're assuming that smuggler bounties will come out before we're given a hefty revamp. That will never happen. And furthermore, simply BEING a smuggler means you don't have a 100% PvP template. We'renot a combatclass, we're a hybrid. We're the jack-of-all-trades of the galaxy, andif you don't know that, you don't belong here.
I have doen a lot of pvp, I didnt stop because I lost, I can deal with losing in pvp. I stopped because of grieving, exploting and all that BS
If you can't tolerate and own up to the fact that you are a CRIMINAL, a SCOUNDREL, and a PIRATE, then give up the profession. That's like saying,
"Well, I love robbing banks, but I don't think it's fair that the police shoot at me."
/dismiss
An example of risk/reward already in the game
The DWB rewards players with mandalorian armor, but is super hard to get through. If you want that mandalorian armor, you and your group better be willing to die a million times over.
The smuggling equivalent is getting a super illegal spice that buffs you like mad, and you might have to fight a player bounty hunter.
edit: thank you veela for that wonderful bit about robbing banks. I wanted to say something like that, but... i don't know, didn't.

You fail to see why fewer people PVP every day. SWG is a PVP by consent game. People are not locked out of content because they do not want PVP, and thats what you are asking for.
Jedi by what thay can build in their template sign up for it. Yes we do add combat but there is a major difference in what you need for a PVP template. So yes you are forcing a PVP template to get top all the content
There has to be a better way - so what we do being illegal and Han being hunted by a Bounty Hunter does not fit into any of this for you does it?
No what doesnt fit is the risk vs reward does not have to involve players policing us.
You may enjoy PVP, I used to. Not everyone does. Now address how you would solve the issues instead of just "too bad". Because it is all risk versus reward and you have not come up with a single argument on why that has to be aPLAYER bounty other than you obviosly not fed up with pvp yet.
